Digital Dentistry: Beyond Imagination

Understanding the complex relationship between tooth form and function, and how they relate and combine to create the esthetics of natural dentition, is the basis of study for achieving predictable success in oral reconstruction. The newest technology to enter dentistry is CAD/CAM. As Dentistry evolves into the digital world, the successful incorporation of computerization and new acquisition and manufacturing technologies will continue to provide more efficient methods of restoration fabrication and communication, while at the same time retaining the individual creativity and artistry of the skilled Dentist and Technician. The evolution from Hand design to Digital design and the application of Diagnostic 3D previews, along with provisional restorations, and their digital replicas to guide the restorative team in the creation of CAD/CAM restorations will be presented.

Simplified Restorative Options for Predictable Results with Dental Implants In this lecture and hands-on presentation, Dr. Bortolussi will introduce attendees to the components of an effective implant system and detail the restorative process. Biological reasons for essential features in an implant system will be discussed, especially in regards to the potential for success in the anterior esthetic zone. Immediate implant placement and provisionalization, along with the ideal emergency profile prior to final impressions will be presented. Furthermore, the restorative process for dental implants will be demystified, from selecting an appropriate abutment to important considerations in single and multiple tooth restorations and overdenture attachments. In the hands-on portion of the program, attendees will familiarize themselves with an implant prosthetic kit while learning how an ideal surgical implant placement with soft-tissue development offers a simplified step-by-step impression technique. At the completion of this course, participants will be able to: • • • •

Understand options and solutions for replacement of tooth esthetics Understand the benefits and procedures for solid abutments Become familiar with implant and abutment level impression procedures Understand the need for a surgical guide and basic concepts

Dr. Alain Méthot graduated in 1981 from the University of Montreal. He continues his education in everything that is avant-gardist. He is on a constant lookout for the newest trends, especially in esthetics. Dr. Méthot is an innovator in his own right. He attended Pankey Institute and LVI. He also did a Master’s Degree in masticatory system and occlusion in Austria with Professor Rudolf Slavicek. He has taught esthetic dentistry and dental adhesion. He founded the St-Pierre Academy in 1999 with 5 of his colleagues. In January 2005, he founded Dental GPS. Dr. Méthot inverts a new digital protocol t l iin esthetic th ti ddentistry and does both dental simulation as well as diagnostic virtual wax-up. The software serves as a laboratory prescription to guide the dental team to perform an on-screen simulated smile. He believes it is technology that makes us visualize the desired smile and allows us to manifest it on stone models in such a precise way even before executing it on a patient. Technology also incorporates itself in 3D systems, which will allow the industry to make a giant step forward in esthetic dentistry.

Patient-Centered Design of Anterior Esthetic Restorations

The art and science of creating predicable porcelain restorations of teeth can be very rewarding. There are, however, significant challenges that have to be identified and dealt with or serious failure can occur. When could you consider ‘prepless’ veneers versus regular veneers? This program will discuss a patient-centered protocol to decide just what preparation design would be appropriate for that patient in your chair right now. This lecture will review fundamentals of smile design, tooth preparation, provisionalization, lab communication and cementation. Learning Objectives: • Diagnose and choose the best esthetic restoration for your patient • Design appropriate preparation reduction that will help ensure success • Review of current bonding protocols
