“Stories you read when you’re the RIGHT AGE never quite leave you. You may forget who wrote them or what the story was called. Sometimes you’ll forget precisely what happened, but if a story touches you it will stay with you, haunting the places in your mind that you rarely ever visit.”

CREATIVE REALISATION USING THE INSPIRATION OF VENETIAN BUILDINGS MY COLOUR SCHEME WAS VERY OBVIOUS. MY COLLECTION’S MAIN STATEMENT WAS THE BOLD AND ECCENTRIC COLOURS.

WITH AN AIM TO CREATE A CLASSIC WHITE SHIRT, WITH AN ALTERED COLLAR AND CUFFS, I LOOKED INTO THE THEME OF LAYERING. I TOOK INSPIRATION FROM THE ICEBERG THEORY; THAT WHAT YOU SEE ISN’T ALWAYS WHAT YOU GET, A HIDDEN MEANING BELOW THE SURFACE. I WANTED TO CREATE A COLLAR WITH MORE DEPTH THAT THE OBVIOUS STYLE. I RESEARCHED INTO BIRD FEATHERS AND WINGS TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE ON INTRICATE LAYERING. I DECIDED TO KEEP THE CUFFS OF MY SHIRT SIMPLE IN ORDER TO DRAW ALL EYES DIRECTLY TO THE COLLAR; THE MAIN FOCAL POINT OF MY GARMENT.

ON DECIDING WHAT THEME TO BASE MY EVENT ON I DISCOVERED A CAMPAIGN RUN BY LEVI; ‘WATERLESS JEANS’. THIS INVOLVES THE HUGE MANUFACTURING BRAND FINISHING OFF THE CREATION OF THEIR JEANS USING ONLY RECYCLED WATER. I DECIDED TO TAKE THIS IDEA FURTHER AND COMBINE THE ‘+ DENIM’ THEME’’ WITH DRAWING ATTENTION TO THE WORLDS WATER PROBLEM. I CHOSE TO DESIGN AN EVENT, RUN BY LEVI, THAT WOULD DONATE TO A NEW WATER AID CHARITY RUN BY THE COMPANY. THE THEME OF THE EVENT WOULD BE “FESTIVAL” WITH ALL OF THE STALLS BEING HANDMADE, SMALL BUSINESSES AND THE FOOD FITTING WITHIN THE THEME. AFTER PAYING £20 A TICKET THE PUBLIC WILL HAVE ACCESS TO A FASHION SHOW AND PERFORMANCES, AS WELL AS A WRISTBAND ON ENTRANCE AND A COPY TO THE DENIM MAGAZINE I HAVE DESIGNED. THIS MAGAZINE INCORPORATES ARTICLES ABOUT THE WATER PROBLEM WITH PHOTOS AND STORIES ABOUT DENIM TO FIT WITHIN LEVI’S NATURE.

Denim Stories; a fashion site for everything denim. The American website combines iconic women’s inspiring stories with the way in which denim effects fashions day to day life. Founders Jane Bishop & Florence Kane met at Vogue and Denim Stories was born. I asked them a few questions about the begining of Denim Stories and there go to guide for jeans;

What inspired you to start Jean Stories? A few things – first we wanted to do something together. We worked at Vogue together for many years, and when both of us found ourselves in New York looking for a new project it felt like a perfect time to start our own website. And, we love jeans. They are the best equalizer in fashion – everyone wears them, everyone has a pair. What we love about fashion are the stories that it can tell about what's happening in the world and in culture; and nothing in our closet tells a better story about who we are and what we love and how we live than our jeans. You can learn a lot about a person just by asking them the story behind their favorite pair. Jean Stories is a way to talk not just about style and fashion, it also explores how people work and live everyday.

We love so many different styles for different reasons, but if we had to name a few Acne's Pop, Levi's 501's and Levi's Orange tab 606's, Nudie's Grim Tim, Baldwin's Ten, and Frame's Le High Straight. How do you choose whom to write your stories about? All of our subjects have amazing personal style and inspiring lives. Some we pick because we know they love jeans, others we choose because they're doing something new an innovative – and they wear jeans while they do it.

loved/most hated denim trend? We're pretty excited about the current return to Mom jeans. We love a classic 501 and we love that it's coming back in fashion. There isn’t a trend we've ever hated, but neither of us participated in the printed jean fad that took place a few years ago. How long do a pair of jeans tend to last you? Forever. When they start falling to pieces, we cut them into jean shorts. Do you think money matters when buying jeans?

Have you always been interested in denim? Money doesn't matter. You can really get a great jean at Yes!
