Bridal Gown Buying Guide

Location. Knowing the place and time of your wedding will help focus your
search. Will you be having a daytime ceremony on the beach? You can rule out ball gowns with long trains and dramatic embellishments. Exchanging vows in a candlelit cathedral? Avoid short slip dresses or anything that looks like it could be worn to a cocktail party. Most fabrics are suitable year-round, but some, like linen and organdy, are more appropriate for warm weather, while velvet and brocade are best left for winter.
Set a budget. Figure out how much you want to spend, and tell the salesperson before she starts bringing out gowns. That way you won't lose your heart to a dress you can't afford. Also, don't forget to budget for accessories, including veil, undergarments, alterations and any other accessories. Bring backup. Take anything you know you want to wear, such as a special necklace or your grandmother's veil. Boutiques will often provide bustiers, strapless bras, and shoes, but you may want to bring your own. You'll also need the advice of a few trusted confidantes, but not too many. Invite one or two people who know your taste, will be honest with you, and whose judgment you trust.
Focus on fit, not size. Bridal wear often runs smaller than ready-to-wear; if you normally buy an 8, you may need a 12. So forget the numbers and don't insist on a smaller size because you intend to lose weight before the wedding — order the one that fits now. A gown is easy to take in, but difficult and costly to let out.
Keep an open mind. This is the mantra repeated over and over by bridal consultants.
So take their advice, even if what they urge you to try on doesn't seem like your style. Some dresses don't look like much on the hanger but look great on. On the other hand, never let yourself be talked into purchasing a gown you're not in love with.

While you’re addressing invitations and picking out bridesmaids dresses, take some time to work on your beauty regimen. Making an investment now will have a big payoff on your wedding day.
Skin care: Now is the time to start working on your skin. On your wedding day,
you’ll have many people getting close to your skin as they hug and kiss you, not to mention close-up photos. A good cleansing program uses a multi-step system: a good cleanser appropriate for your skin-type in the mornings, make-up remover and cleanser at night, daily moisturizer, and an exfoliant once to several times a week.
Drink water: Examine how much water you drink daily. Drinking 8 to 10 glasses daily will help clear up blemishes and make your skin more luminous. Fill a water bottle and keeping it on your desk at work. Have another water bottle with you in the evening. While drinking this much water may be a challenge at first, keep at it, and it will get easier and easier. Hair: If you want to grow out your hair for your wedding, or try a different color or style, now is the time to talk to your hairstylist and search for a makeup artist. Even if you aren’t planning on using professionals, you’ll want to ask your friend or family member for their help now to make sure they are available and willing. Makeup: While some brides hire a professional makeup artist for their big day, it’s
certainly possible to do your own wedding day makeup as long as you take some time to practice. And even if you do hire someone for your wedding day, you also need to look your best for your bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, bachelorette party, and engagement photos. Most importantly, make sure you feel confident and radiant in your makeup look, so that you can truly be the blushing bride.
Stress: Exercise, yoga, and other physical activities will help build strength, energy, and relieve throughout your planning process. Remember to partake in activities you enjoy. Wedding planning can consume a lot of time and energy, it's important to step away and rejuvenate yourself. There is nothing like receiving a beautiful personalized wedding invitation in the mail. Choosing your wedding invitation is an important part of your wedding planning, it will be the first indicator to your guests of what to expect from your wedding.
You can never give too much notice. Save-the-dates typically go out three to four months prior to the wedding, but if guests are spread far and wide—or you're throwing a destination wedding—more time is better. No one will complain about having extra leeway to plan. Send invitations six to eight weeks beforehand, with an R.S.V.P. request of two to three weeks. Some venues require a 30-day meal guarantee, so be sure to note that.
Be creative but clear. From telegrams to invisible ink, couples are doing fun things with their save-the-dates and invitations. If you're getting innovative, just make sure that all important information is included. For save-the-dates, the names of the couple getting married and the date should be most prominent, along with a note that invitations will follow. You don’t have to name the venue, but if you have a website, save-the-dates are a great place to share the URL. Titles do matter. If the wife is a doctor, her full name comes first, as in "Doctor Kaitlynn and Mr. Anthony Thommes." When the husband is a doctor, the titles appear as "Doctor and Mrs." and if both husband and wife are doctors, the envelope should say "Drs. Tracy and Luke Stanek." A single woman (unless she's a doctor) should be addressed as "Ms." If she's under 21, use "Miss." Be gracious in a timely fashion. Thank-you notes should be treated with a sense
of urgency. Send them within three weeks of receiving the gifts to express your true appreciation.

That is why the photographer you choose to hire is so important. Not only will they be with you a good deal of time on this important day but they also will capture all the details that you have been thinking about for the past six months or more. The beautiful fl owers you chose, the gorgeous dress, the venue and table settings, the happiness of uniting your lives. Here are some suggestions to help you choose a photographer.
Research: Do a little research and decide what style of photography appeals to
you. While no two photographers are exactly the same, there are three types of photography. Traditional, photojournalistic, and classic. A traditional photographer will produce mostly posed shots and arrange people and details to look a certain way. A photojournalistic photographer will document in a non-posed style, capturing events as they unfold. The classic photographer combines both previously mentioned styles in a balanced blend.
Budget: Investment in photography can vary considerably based on what is
included in the photographer's package. Elements that may effect the bottom line are the skill and experience of the photographer, time limitations if applicable, album or product credit, rights to the final images and other sessions that may be part of the package, such as engagement sessions.
Connection: Skill, professionalism, and budget are all important aspects when
choosing a photographer, but it is also important to like and have a good relationship with the individual capturing your wedding. Your photographer should be able to help you relax while you're in front of the camera and keep upbeat feelings and momentum rolling. Even the most unobtrusive photographer still has a significant presence at your wedding; make sure that person is a guest you would invite.

Choosing the right baker
When you meet with a baker, ask what types of cakes they specialize in. There may be flavors or flavor combinations you might not have considered. The baker may also allow you to taste-test a few, often for a small charge. Ask to see an album of past creations to get an idea of their decorating ability. If you have a certain look in mind, be sure to bring photo inspiration along and be clear about what you are looking for.
Finding the right caterer
Narrow down your list to two or three caterers and schedule a consultation with each. At these initial meetings, tell the caterers what style of wedding you envision, and ask about their experience with that style. When reviewing your venue options, there are a number of considerations including whether you will have your ceremony and reception at the same location. Traditionally, ceremonies and receptions were distinctly separate. Most ceremonies were held in churches, and receptions were held in large banquet halls, restaurants and smaller clubs. Today, couples have the wonderful fl exibility and creativity to choose from a far greater variety including beaches, private estates, barns, ranches, parks, trains, the sky (think sky diving ceremonies) and hot air balloons to name just a few. Location, Location, Location! It’s true, location is very important for your ceremony and venue. You may wish to get married in your local church, and then move onto your reception venue where you will eat, drink and dance. When you choose to have two separate locations, please consider the distance between the two. The less travel required of your guests, the better. The more trendy option currently is to have both the ceremony and reception at one wedding venue. This choice offers convenience for your guests, more time for you to take photos, and enjoy a cocktail hour. When selecting your venue, the season you wish to get married is very important, something you may consider first before you actually decide on the date. Weather is definitely a factor when planning an outdoor wedding. Will it be cold, warm or even swelteringly hot and humid? Dells Boat Tours of Cold Water Canyon
Cold Water Canyon is a beautiful shady tributary glen that cuts deep into the east bank of the Wisconsin River. The Canyon was formerly one of the regular stops on river excursions offered by Dells Boat Tours. Today, Cold Water Canyon is an exclusive retreat for private excursions, parties and gatherings, and is only offered through Dells Boat Tours. The Canyon provides a variety of locations for ceremonies, such as weddings, and a historic stone building for sit-down meals, meetings and entertainment events. Guests can explore the site on foot via a wooden boardwalk that winds through the unique sandstone cliffs, deep into the canyon lush with beautiful foliage. The dramatic scenery provides a gorgeous backdrop for weddings and special occasions. The historic stone Pavilion on-site at Cold Water Canyon once served as a concession area. Today, the beautifully restored building is a perfect spot for wedding banquets, family reunions, special occasion dinners, meetings and other private gatherings.
