Poems about Antarctica

Year 9 Caracals 2012

1

By Alex • All around, there is ice as far as you can see. • Night falls for half the year. • Trembling from the cold wind and snow, • All the penguins squawk. • Roaring and bellowing seals clash and fight. • Colourful waves of the southern lights in the night sky. • Tranquil sky blue waters, • Ice tumbling down into the sea. • Crashing through the ice, go large ships. • Albatross flying with wings spread wide. 2

By Amelia • A place where you will always be cold. • Never fails to amaze. • Terrifying yet magnificent. • Antarctica makes you feel small. • Really slippery. • Changes size depending on the season. • Takes your breath away. • Ice is everywhere. • Can only hear the water crashing against the ice. • A home for penguins huddling together for warmth. 3

By Kane • All the sights somehow send you into a slumber, • Nothing to interrupt or disturb, • The sights too many to number, • As the snow’s radiance is all too superb, • Reality is a simple thing that can disappear, • Crude as it may seem - fear not, • The warmth of the land is not all but mere, • In pure contrast - the summer sun’s influence can get hot, • Cautiously traversing the ice, • As if our survival was all but a roll of the dice. 7
