Cuando el aire se desvanece
Cuando el aire se desvanece A site-specific project for PINEA-LINEA DE COSTA Compared to my previous works which used my body and its performative gestures as a core medium to work with, this project has been developed with emotions, thoughts and memories that cannot be logically explained in verbal or written words. It was a huge challenge in my art practices since I had always worked on something predictable and logical to figure out the function of our body and its actions in the matter of perception. However, in this project ‘Cuando el aire se desvanece’, I have constantly focused on the things that I perceive which may not have any form, colour, scent but the things that intrigue our senses to realise its existence. By capturing what I feel when I see the sunset and realising how everyday sunsets are different from each other.. By grasping the time that the wind touches me and embraces me to console.. By being aware of random objects and its uniqueness that we unconsciously pass by everyday.. I started to collect the things from the street and from my emotion to play harmonious orchestra through diverse mediums such as painting,, sculpture and installation. Through out this project, I tried to remove any logical or predestinated action or plan but tried to constantly be in a state of unpredictable, illogical and unconscious. I control myself not to speak of what I know but give the collected objects and emotions a chance to work and create a piece by themselves. The only thing that I did through out this project was to wait until they started to speak each other to make decisions and helped them to be arranged as they wanted to. At last, I feel like I become one of orchestra staffs but not a composer or conductor. By getting away from being an omnipotent creator, I could eventually become an artist who can be less prejudice who can help the things to be liberated to be as-it-is. Through this one month residency, I at the end realise the fact that I as an artist who are normally called as creator is just one of elements of an art, not an omniscient god. Tae Eun Ahn
