PAPER LANTERNS FOR AARHUS 2017 - EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE, OPENING CEREMONY. “CLOSELY CONNECTED” THE CONCEPT IS BASED ON THE QUALITIES OF THE ACCESSIBILITY TO THE PRECIOUS NATURE, THAT SURROUNDS AARHUS ON ALL SIDES. THE IDEA OF THE LANTERN IS TO REPRESENT BOTH THE URBAN AND NATURAL LANDSCAPE USING AN ABSTRACT FORM LANGUAGE IN THE STRUCTURE TO SHOW DIFFERENT RIGID SHAPES, GRADUALLY TURNING INTO MORE ORGANIC SHAPES. THE INITIAL IDEA OF THE STRUCTURE WAS TO MAKE IT AS A SHADOW THEATRE BY HAVING DIFFERENT LAYERS, AND THIS TURNED INTO A ROUND SHAPE THAT CONSIDERS THE DIFFERENT ANGLES THAT IT WILL BE PERCEIVED FROM THE PARADE.

O N E H O U R WO R K S H O P, D O K K 1 , 2 9 . 1 2 . 2 017 STILL PFOTOS FROM FILM RECORDED FROM A WORKSHOP i HELD AT DOKK1, AARHUS, FOR A SMALL GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS. THE WORKSHOP FOCUSED ON CONSTRUCTING A HABOUR OBSERVATORY ONLY USING RECYCLED MATERIALS AND A VOLUNTARY WORKING FORCE. THE SITE WAS INTERESTING BECAUSE THE LOW LEVEL OF ACTIVITY EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN THE CITY CENTRE AND VERY CLOSE TO AREAS WITH HIGH ACTIVITY. THE SCALE OF THE INTERVENTION IS INTENTIONALLY SMALL COMPARED TO THE CONSTRUCTIONS IN THE CONTEXT, AND THIS IS BECAUSE I THINK IT IS INTERESTING TO MAKE INTERVENTIONS THAT CAN BE RELATED TO THE HUMAN BODY WHICH I THINK IS IMPORTANT AROUND A PLACE LIKE DOKK1.
