teammates every day, grinding through the ups and downs together. I’ve loved going through these past four years both on and off the court with the now senior volleyball players by my side. I’ll forever remember all of the memories we have made.” says Moss.
Moss expressed gratitude to the people who surround her and support her, especially her mother, Michelle.
by Marissa Dolson ’26
No amount of adversity can stop volleyball player Kayla Moss from making the most out of her time at Linfield University. Despite playing through COVID-19 her freshman year, she is now facing her final season of competitive volleyball. This fall, Moss is stepping into a more prominent role, not only on the court, but also within her extra curricular activities.
Born and raised in Oregon and a graduate of West Linn High School, Moss says Linfield stands out to her for various reasons.
“My time at Linfield has given me many lifelong memo ries,” she says. “I first fell in love with Linfield because of its beautiful campus, amazing professors and of course, Starbucks located conveniently in Fred Meyer Lounge. I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to play volleyball for Linfield and get involved in many other things outside of school.”
As mentioned, Moss is a part of many extra activities that take place away from the volley ball court. As an Archon (co-leader) of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, Moss has created many memories, learned various life les sons, and established friendships that will last a lifetime.
Kara Thomas, Moss’s roommate, teammate, and sorority sister of three years, was excited to talk about all the memories the two Wildcats have shared while at Linfield.
“I couldn’t ask for a better friend to experience college with,” says Thomas. “Some of my favorite mem ories from college and with Kayla have been working on the executive board in Phi Sigma Sigma, playing our favorite warm-up game in practice together, or taking random trips to the beach. Kayla is extremely hard working and dedicated to everything that she is involved in.”
Moss is eager to lead the volleyball squad to a successful season during her final year. Despite previous seasons shortened or eliminated by COVID, Moss wants to play a big role on the volleyball court this year. Play ing alongside some of her best friends, they are ready to compete.
“Going into my final year here at Linfield, I’ll miss being able to see my
“Growing up I always looked up to my mom. She has al ways been there to support and push me when I need it while balancing many other things,” Moss says.
Moss’s support system is much larger than just her moth er. She has also appreciated the endless support provided by her entire family, grandparents and her brother, Jacob.
“I’m very close with my family and they have greatly shaped me into the person that I am today,” she says, proudly. “I’ve been lucky enough to have had my parents support me all growing up both in academics and volleyball and I would not be where I am today without them. Jacob and my grand parents have also always been my No. 1 supporters and I can always count on them for an extra boost.”
An accounting major with a minor in wine studies, Moss is also very much in tune with her academics. Last summer, she took part in an in ternship program, working at Aldrich Advisors, a certified public accounting firm.
“I really enjoyed my internship. After graduation, I will begin taking the CPA exam and start working at Aldrich (next) fall.”
Moss later plans to become the CFO of a wine or spirits company. Throughout Moss’s time at Lin field, her academic path has helped shape her and led her to discover new passions through her studies. She remains grateful to her professors, who have been supportive of her while pushing her to excel in the classroom and advancing her knowledge even more.
“I have had the amazing opportunity this past year to become the president of Phi Sigma Sigma, which has taught me endless lifelong skills. One of my best and most memorable experiences here at Linfield has been being a part of such an amazing organization. Through Phi Sig, I have met so many amazing women as well as created some of my best memories,” says Moss.
The opportunities Linfield has provided Moss have tremendously shaped her college experience. When she’s been placed in leadership roles, she has thrived, now as one of the seniors on the volleyball team, in the classroom, and as President of her sorority. Moss is grateful for the friendships she’s been established through her time as a Phi Sigma Sigma member, with her teammates, professors and family.
While honing her leadership skills on the volleyball court, in the classroom and within her sorority, Kayla Moss forever will cherish her time at Linfield

HEAD COACH HALEY DOMECK
building the foundation
Inheriting a program that was experiencing a low point in its history, Haley Domeck has the ’Cats heading for better times aley Domeck is in her third year as Linfield head volleyball coach.
HIn 2020, she became the first woman to direct the Wildcats volleyball program since Robin Vealey coached the team to a 30-7 record and the Northwest Conference championship in 1979.
Domeck (nee Doerfler) combines a mixture of collegiate and club coaching experience, as well as substantial college and high school playing experience.
Before joining the Linfield staff, she spent one year as an assistant coach at Seattle Pacific University and assisted at the University of North Alabama for one year. She also previously coached at Durham University in England, directing that school’s indoor and sand volleyball programs while serving as the program’s recruiting coordinator. Domeck has six years experience coaching at the club level.
Competing as Haley Doerfler, Domeck starred as a middle
blocker at Hawaii Pacific University, graduating in 2015. During her four seasons at HPU, she piled up 394 blocks, leading the team in blocks in three of those seasons. She also recorded 765 career kills, 208 coming as a senior in 2014. As a junior, Domeck totaled 117 blocks and hit .309, earning all-Pacific West Conference third team honors. She was honorable mention all-Pacific West as a sophomore and again as a senior.
Born in Waterloo, Iowa, Domeck’s family settled in the southwest Washington city of Battle Ground. At Prairie High School, she was an all-state honoree and the Greater St. Helens League Most Valuable Player. She excelled at the club level, winning the JO National Championship in the American Division while being named to the all-tournament team.
Haley and her husband, Wes, reside in McMinnville.
