I think architecture is a response.

I used four verbs to describe these projects: cross, fold, twist, stack, in order to respond to the relationship between architecture and place memory, architecture and space content, architecture and people's activities, architecture and urban imagery. These relationships have their own emphasis in my projects.A good architecture should have a good response in at least one aspect, and this response itself is a good story.

Buildings occur based on materials, structures, and spaces, but they are broader than the sum of them. It is establishing a connection

Chongqing is a very attractive three-dimensional mountain city, in which many things are ostentatious and grow savagely. The whole country can only see the interesting phenomenon of light rail passing through residential buildings in Chongqing. The residential building becomes a subway station, where people get off the train and take the elevator to the Binjiang Road below. So in this design I was thinking about whether we can combine the height difference of the base and effectively integrate the walking system with the art gallery.

Chongqing City is divided into the upper half and the lower half . The SHIBA ladder is an old street leading from the upper (the top of the mountain) to the lower half (the foot of the mountain). This old street is all paved with stone steps, connecting the bustling business district on the top of the mountain with the old town on the riverside. Ordinary people live on both sides of the SHIBA ladder, and the streets exude a strong atmosphere of life. You can see all kinds of life scenes here, which is very lively.

The Yangtze River in the west faces Babin Road, which is the most important traffic route for the site. To the east is the school and residential area, and now the road down the mountain is not easy to walk. So I hope to create two streamlines through the museum. One is the streamline of the visitors, and the changes in the terrain are constantly felt during the visit. The other is the pedestrian streamline of the passer-by, just like a train passing through a residential building.

West Facade

Use models to discuss the relationship between visitors and walkers. It is not the entanglement of the two, as the box of the museum still maintains its own order. However, due to the emergence of intruders, it brings new opportunities and fun to the design of the museum. Intruders and visitors are exhibits, showing different directions, speeds and experiences in the same time and space.

The relationship between the traversor and the museum is like a train and a station. It is not a simple walk or stop, but an incident. For example, public exhibition halls or lectures open to the public. The people who walked at the same time also became a dynamic work of this art museum.

The countryside is a worldwide concern, and it is undergoing tremendous changes around the world. Politics, industry, economic globalization, and the Internet have brought about major changes in the shape of the countryside. The Chinese villages are especially complicated. The project's research plot, Songjiang Shihu, is a small town, as a suburb of the city located 1 hour away from the city center of Shanghai. On the other hand, it is the only undeveloped independent island on the Huangpu River, located in the Waohe River basin on the upper reaches of the Huangpu River.

Six people from our group worked together to plan the entire island, in which I was personally responsible for designing the tourism complex. As it is designed on a small island in the suburbs of the city, the following four design priorities are summarized.

1. Landscape: This is a design of a small island on the Huangpu River. The surrounding farmland and villages and towns should have sufficient landscape.

2. South Facade: The south side is facing the main dock on the opposite side. It is necessary to fully consider the visual experience that people see.

3. Terrain: The terrain of the design block is flat, but it has a height difference of 3m from the north ground. The design should fully consider the characteristics of the terrain.

4. Relationship with old houses: Take the market as the space prototype, and refer to the slope roof shape of the cowshed on the original site.

This topic wants to improve the interaction with the surrounding farms through the development of the small single squad by the effect of the point excitation line, and stimulate the shaping of the landscape along the Huangpu River.

This is the industrial distribution map along the Huangpu River. It can be seen that the free central city on the Huangpu River is far away and the development level is low. The coast is dominated by large-scale agriculture and a small number of industries.

The island's overall structure is star-shaped, and this layout maximizes the adjacent water display of each building. Due to the elevation from the south to the north, the height of the rear roof is higher than that of the front roof. From the direction of the main pier, there will be a layered architectural impression, connecting the river and the raised land in the north. People mainly enter from the east-west direction, and they can form a main indoor functional space (service, sale, exhibition hall) and transportation space.

The original abandoned farmland of the site is used for reclamation. There are wooden paths between the fields, following the texture of the surrounding farmland and roads, and constructing crops to see the greenhouse in the middle of the field. On the waterfront side, there is a green space amusement park.

The profile is mainly about the relationship between the roof and the roof, the roof and the slab, and the roof and the old house. With the sun sloping sun slab in the second inner street, this also increases the level of the north-south space. You can see two sloping roofs, one is a transparent and light sun slab, and the far away is the original old house. Tile roof. Responding to the cascading of the roof.

Introduce the concept of a “well”. It is the "well" of light, and it is also the "view" of trees. People can rest here or as an extension of the outer square. The unevenness on the plane is also reflected in the section, and the structure is also processed accordingly.

The method of constructing the shape of the folded roof was compared, and finally the form in which the east-west direction is the main beam is selected. The design of this design selected steel-wood structures based on the shape of the sloping roof and the requirements of eco-green construction. The column spacing in the east-west direction is consistent with the spacing of the original old house, which is 5m.

China has been developing its economy with an outstanding speed since the 1980s. As one of the driving forces, the residential industry has been completely commercialized. Residential projects are dominated by real state developers and a substantial amount of people are still facing the problem of can’t afford decent places to live in. The main people facing this problem are the young and the old with low income. They are the major crowd to be considered in this project.

This design uses a belt system to explore the possibility of living and communicating. The design abstracts the living space and public activity space into belts. Different groups of people can live in their own belt independently and the twist of belts can create a public place between them. By twisting the belts, the accessibility and visibility between the same building and different buildings can be brought out.

Young people and old people have very different lifestyles. Even if living in the same Shikumen space, the young people in Tianzifang distinct and the old people in East Sven d during the day, they chat with each other with their hands washing or cooking at the same time. In the meaning while, young people socialize at night and the common topics are mainly about work or entertainment. How to shape their own living spaces independently and create communication possibilities is the key of the design.

Qingpu is a suburb of Shanghai. As the main producing area of vegetable and fruit in Shanghai, Qingpu has good air quality, beautiful scenery, and a large amount of old-age care industries, which attracts a large number of elderly people in Shanghai urban area to settle in.Qingpu is also an ideal rental place for young people for its accessibility to Hongqiao transportation center and a relatively lower rent. This led to the unique age structure of Qingpu.

The site is surrounded by rivers and there is only one road leading to the outside.A belt system was created to build up a world to meet the needs of both the young people and the old people. After model comparison, the design of model 9 is the most reasonable. The public community space is on the ground floor and can serve the surrounding residents at the same time. Its twisting also creates connections possibilities between different outdoor spaces on the ground floor.

The belt twisted in the vertical direction is the living space. The twisted belt in the horizontal direction is the community public space. It can divide the site on the one hand, and weave different buildings together on the other hand, so that residents in different buildings can use their roofs or internal spaces to communicate.

The zigzag public space belt connects the community as a whole, in which a variety of functions can be placed. For example, library, conference hall, screening room, childcare room, tea room, gym and so on. Both young people and old people can find their favorite places on this belt and have the opportunity to make friends with people who have the same preferences.

The upper part is for the young people, their public space is vertical with stairs connecting different floors. The dining rooms, kitchens and living rooms in the units are exposed to the public place, young people can work, talk , eat dinner and even have parties there.

The lower part is for the old people, their public space is horizontal and all the kitchens and dining rooms in the units are set on the side of the corridor to promote the possibility of interaction, Old people can chat, play chess, and enjoy the sun there. Between the belts is a outdoor space for activities.

The facade uses translucent polycarbonate panels to emphasize the concept of belt. When the panels are closed, the facade is a whole. When the window panels are opened, the facade shows the different characteristics of different belts.

community sports center in Anaya (under construction)

Assistant architect| Professional| Group work

Date: January 2020 to present

Chief Architect: Liu Kenan, Xuk Atelier

Location: Qinhuangdao, China

The project is located in a new coastal community in northern China. The original shipbuilding plant on the base was later renovated into a seaside community due to the intervention of the developer. The goal of the new project is to build a community gymnasium for residents here. In the case of limited budget and buildable area, provide enough sports venues.

The original shipbuilding plant has been demolished, and we hope that the new building can retain this historical memory to a certain extent in terms of structure, material and form: tall trusses, rough concrete, simple cube image... .Under the limitation of the building area, the building space is very compact. We split them and stack them effectively according to the different spatial scale, density requirements and thermal performance requirements of different movement methods. Now the project has started construction.

LOCATION

The project is located in a new coastal residence in northern China, which was developed by real estate. Though with limited budget, the project tried best to more publicity. The sports center is located in the northeast corner of the community, with public buildings on the east and north sides, and residences and hotels on the west and south sides. The small square and gymnasium on the north face the community creative center and the water not far away in a very open manner.

FUNCTION & SITE

Various public functions are integrate into the economic box volumn, including basketball hall, fitness center, traning room and interior swimming pool. They are effectively stacked together according to different usage requirements and thermal performance requirements.

The main entrance faces the west, which is the residential area of the community. The public swimming pool is also set on the west side of the building and becomes part of the entrance landscape experience. Relying on the pool sites and buildings, a variety of public sites are formed in different states.

CONSTRUCTION & FACADE

Because of the limited budget, the main building is of bent structure with on-site-prefabricated columns. Separated inside there is a separated framestructure, corresponding to the complex functions on the southern part.

The façade between the columns are in-situ concrete walls and, with that, wood is used as concrete panels. The windows are heat-insulating glass made of aluminum alloy. The interior is a reinforced concrete structure that is separated from the curved structure.

Floor structure:

- Sanded concrete covering 60mm

- vapor barrier

- Concrete leveling layer 20mm

- concrete ceiling 120mm

- Rammed earth

According to the different parts and functions of the material, seek a material pedigree that not only meets the requirements of use, but also fits the characteristics of the site, forming a continuous and changing experience.

Materials Research

1.Color experiment-ratio of iron oxide

Adjust the proportion of yellow iron oxide pigment to form a natural warm concrete color.A 5% ratio is a good choice.

2.Rock salt surface experiment

Test the suitable rock salt particle size and the timing of pressing.

3.Surface texture experiment

By controlling the surface coating or adjusting the cement water-cement ratio to control the deformation of the template when it meets water, the texture and texture of the wooden template are optimized.

1.Precast reinforced concrete column
2.Standing timber formwork and stainless steel counter-penetrating screw

CONSTRUCTION SITE

1. Check the production status of the pillars in the structural component factory and proofread the colors of the pillars.

2. Supervise the production of the first concrete template, and choose the paint ratio and bolt hole size on this basis.

3. Check the results of concrete pouring, discuss with the construction team and choose a better repair plan.

The winter in Beidaihe has come and construction has stopped, but spring is always worth the wait.
