HELPING HAND FOR FAMILIES THIS SUMMER HOLIDAYS

Wyre Council has opened bookings for an exciting range of holiday clubs taking place this summer for children on benefits related free school meals.

The Holiday Activity and Food Clubs are funded by the Department for Education and are designed to enhance children’s holiday experiences whilst promoting physical activity and healthy nutrition.

There are lots of different sessions taking place across Wyre for both primary and secondary school aged children. Activities include coding and video game design, football, boxing, dance, cooking, arts and crafts and more.

Eligible over 14s can also access a number of the Fylde Coast YMCA gyms for free throughout the holidays. Anyone booking on a session will also receive a free healthy lunch.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments, “We recognise the importance of providing children with enriching experiences beyond the classroom and so we’ve partnered with local activity providers to offer opportunities for young people to have fun, meet friends and learn new skills.

“We want to provide support for those families who may struggle to bridge the gap that the school holidays create. This summer’s clubs offer a wider range of activities than ever before and promote social interaction, as well as physical and mental wellbeing. Come and enjoy fun activities, healthy meals and more!”
