Welcome to our February - June 2020 school holiday guide bought to you by Link4Life. Inside you will find lots of exciting things to do over the holidays across all Link4Life centres. Our activities are packed with fun, action and adventure and include water sports, arts and crafts and multisports.ÊYou will see one of our little Go4It mascots next to each activity letting you know what the suitable age is for each session. We have a lot going on for toddlers right up to teenagers and families so please check the ages before you book. All our holiday activities are run by qualified and experienced coaches that are DBS checked to an enhanced level and are fully aware of safety and child protection laws. There’s loads to choose from, so have a good flick through to get planning your next exciting half term and join us for what will be Go4It and Link4Life’s most exciting 6 months yet!Ê The Natural History Museum’s most famous dinosaur, Dippy the Diplodocus has left the museum to go on tour of the UK, and Rochdale is his only North West stop. Celebrate Dippy’s arrival and join us for an exciting range of dinosaur themed activities. In the middle of this booklet you will find our Jurassic Journey. Receive a stamp in your booklet every time you complete an activity and collect them all to win a fantastic prize.

Get your grown up to tell you how many miles you have walked and they will tell you how many real life dinosaur feet that is!Ê Don’t forget to make a note of it on your map.Ê As you walk our Jurassic Journey why don’t you have a good look around at all the local wildlife and nature that surrounds you? TOUCHSTONES ROCHDALE From giant trees and deserts, to feathered dinosaurs… Join Dr David Gelsthorpe, Curator of Earth Sciences at Manchester Museum on a journey through Rochdale’s ancient past. He will reveal the evidence for incredible 300 million year old fossils from scorpions to giant trees, how deserts covered the land and dinosaurs ruled the Earth. There will be glimpses into the latest research on what dinosaurs looked like and what caused the mass extinction 66 million years ago. 45 minutes with time for questions.

THE UGLY ANIMAL PRESERVATION SOCIETY TOUCHSTONES ROCHDALE Simon Watt is President for Life of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society. At the Ugly Animal Preservation Society they celebrate and explore the incredible biology of the animal kingdom’s most un-photogenic creatures. How did such incredible creatures as the blob fish, the dromedary jumping slug and the aye aye evolve in the first place? Find out what adaptations make them amazing! The show features videos, demonstrations and lots and lots of audience participation. Simon Watt is a biologist, writer, science communicator, comedian and TV presenter. He runs “Ready, Steady, Science!”, a science company committed to making information interesting and takes science based performances into schools, museums, theatres and festivals. Join Nature Ed for some hands-on wildlife fun looking for the creatures that might have been lurking in the murk of the Ealees pond since dinosaur times! We’ll also be making dancing damselflies to take home. A key message will be promoting the amazing biodiversity to be found in Rochdale today. For children that are not able to swim, no experience is necessary. The main aim of the lessons will be to gain confidence moving freely in the water, float, achieve mobility and to submerge and open eyes under the water.
BEGINNER SWIMMERS Stanley 3-6 and Octopus 2 Ages 3+
For swimmers that are able to move in the water and have the confidence to submerge and propel themselves through the water using good basic stroke technique which can be improved as confidence, stamina and skills increase.
IMPROVING SWIMMERS Octopus 3 + Ages 5+
For swimmers that are improving their strokes so that good streamlining is apparent and the limb movements are correct for front crawl, back stroke and breaststroke. For the stroke improvement classes, swimmers will be taught to improve breath control and increase the distance that they can swim continuously without the stroke deteriorating.
