Welcome to our Link4Life Education Guide. This guide brings together the wide range of activities that we have available across the borough of Rochdale to assist you as Headteachers/Teachers, to add value to what you are currently offering in the classroom and be a successful part of the learning journey for both the teacher and pupil. Our programmes are designed to enhance the students learning experience and personal development, and in everything we offer, we aim to work with you to cover activities in line with your curriculum from KS1 through to KS4. Our programmes are informed by insights from the recent Active Lives Survey and key messages from the new School Sport Action Plan. The School Sport Action Plan has three overarching ambitions: 1. All children and young people (C&YP) to take part in 60 minutes of physical activity every day . 2. Children & young people have the opportunity to realise developmental, character building experiences through sport, competition and active pursuits 3. All sport and physical activity provision for C&YP is designed around the principles of physical literacy, it focuses on fun and enjoyment and aims to reach the least active. But we understand that: • only 17.5% of children meet the physical activity recommendations which is 60 minutes of physical activity a day (30 minutes of these to be carried out in school) • 1 in 8 children 5-19 years has at least one mental health disorder. Children who are physically literate are happier, more resilient, have increased self-esteem and motivation • A third of children are either overweight or obese by the time they leave year 6 • Fun and enjoyment are the most influential factors in getting and keeping children active. From school swimming lessons and PE & School Sport through to creative learning at Touchstones and school days with a difference at Hollingworth Lake, there are a variety of ways for children to engage in a range of high quality activities and develop their learning. Further, with a range of after school and school holiday activities, we aim to help children and young people stay active outside of school. If you have any queries or require advice about our range of programmes, please contact us on 01706 924840. Andy King CEO, Link4Life

what we can offer

Hollingworth Lake Adventure & Water Activity Centre is fully accredited and licensed. We have exceptional staff that interact and engage with learners encouraging them to participate in our offer of both land and water based activities. Our programme is designed to enhance the students learning experience and personal development. In everything we offer we aim to support the National Curriculum. Learning need not take place solely within educational buildings. The outdoor environment has a massive potential for learning. We are extremely fortunate to have such rich urban and rural environments on our doorstep and our children and young people’s learning experiences can be enhanced by maximising the potential of the outdoors. We are keen to see all our children and young people having positive learning experiences in a variety of settings. Learning outdoors can be enjoyable, creative, challenging and adventurous, it helps children and young people learn by experience. They grow as confident and responsible citizens who value the spectacular landscapes, natural heritage and culture Rochdale has to offer.
