t’s been a decade since the Tavistock Cup shuffled onto the golf scene as a friendly backyard rivalry between a handful of Isleworth and Lake Nona’s touring professional members. What is recognized today as the ultimate showdown between the finest golf clubs in the world began as a locker room conversation about who might win if a who’s who list of professional golfers from these two sister clubs competed against one another in a friendly match. Since 2004, the PGA TOUR-sanctioned tournament has been bringing together the best golf and country clubs in an annual team competition to crown the World Golf and Country Club Champion. What has evolved from two crosstown clubs to now six international teams in the upcoming 2013 Tavistock Cup remains one of the most intimate sporting events in the world and the toughest ticket in professional sports. With an invitation-only gallery and no-ropes structure, the exclusive experience of the Tavistock Cup allows spectators the rare opportunity to stroll

he Tavistock Cup began a new era in 2011 with the introduction of two new teams and several new players. Albany, the luxury resort community developed by Tavistock Group in The Bahamas, and Queenwood Golf Club, an exclusive private members’ golf club just outside of London, joined the competition creating an unrivaled depth of team talent and a new level of excitement for spectators.

Primland is a thoughtfully developed, eco-conscious golf resort in southwest Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and features a magnificent golf course designed by noted European architect Donald Steel. The Tavistock Cup returns to Isleworth on March 25 and 26 showcasing an international powerhouse of 24 players across these six teams, all battling for club glory and the title of World Golf and Country Club Champion.

ince the beginning, Tavistock Cup’s rich traditions, commitment to charity and tournament format have made the event both a player and fan favorite. Among the tournament’s most moving traditions is the Payne Stewart Salver Award given each year in memory of the former Isleworth member and late champion golfer Payne Stewart to the Tavistock Cup player with the lowest score in the final round. As spirited competition heats up on the course, spectators join in by wearing the official team colors of their respective clubs to show support for their home team. The irreverent musings of Golf Channel’s animated commentators Gary McCord and David Feherty on and off the course add another level of enthusiastic revelry to the interclub competition. Along with the traditions and spirited fun, the Tavistock Cup through the Tavistock Foundation has generated more than $7 million for local, national and international charities, continuing a longstanding commitment to philanthropy.
