Furniture TIMax GL& Source of heating
TIMax enables a translucent glass facade to have excellent the thermal insulation. It is made of very thin yarned glass fibers united with a light-stable binder. the air caught between the glass fiber acts as a very effective insulator.
Additional heating is achieved through two systems called the geothermal heat pump and trombe wall. both work in tandem to first prmp fress cold air from the exterior to later pass through the trombe wall for heating.
Xella blocks:
Products are energy efficient with outstanding thermal properties no volatile compounds are emitted and by products can be recycled back into the production pross.

Research
Background
figure 1
For my master’ project, Lily Pad centre, is about designing a space for teenage parents and children in Edinburgh where they can meet other teenage parents, partake in activities with one another and interact with their children. The reason for choosing this project is an increase in the number of teenage parents because of the increases in the teenage pregnancy rate.
figure 2
Having a baby is a big change in everyone’s life, much more so for some teenagers (young people). Public interest in the issue of the number of teenage parents has increased, because of the increases in the teenage pregnancy rate. A report on families in Scotland says“The teenage pregnancy rate has been fairly steady of the past decade but Scotland has a
higher rate of teenage pregnancy than most other western European countries.”(Anon, 2012)Teen parents are not a new social phenomenon.(Boberts. M,2012)In fact, from the figure 2, it shows that the number of teen childbearing is much lower now than in the 1980s(2010). Despite this decline, teenage parents still need support at all levels from the society. (BBC)
figure 3
According to my field research, and a talk a friend who had her first baby when she was 18 years old, there are lots of people who are teenage parents like her. My friend shared a lot about her life with me. Through talking, I found that she really wants to meet other young parents like her, but there are not many good spaces for them.

Event
I contacted with a teacher who works in Edinburgh Young Mum’s Unit. Young Mums’ Unit is a unique facility run by the city of Edinburgh’s Hospital and Outreach Teaching Service. It is for pregnant school girls and teenage parents in Edinburgh (Children & Families, 2012). They were willing to help me. By chance, I did an event with teenage parents and their babies in Young Mum’s Unit. The content of this is related with and supports my studio project. I chosen four elements which are materials, colours, functionality and atmosphere to let teenage parents to explain the space. Using the words and drawings to explain what they would like to do in the space. There are six girls participated in my event. Five of them were teenage mums, and one was pregnant.

I had chosen a building which is located at Edinburgh Quay and it next to the Edinburgh union canal. This building is small. it can make people feel comfortable easily. There are a lot of residential areas surrounding the building and its environment of the building is quite peaceful. The building has French windows facing the canal. One the one hand, it allows light to penetrate through; and on the other hand, people are able have a good view of the canal when they are in the building. Overall, the environment makes peopel feel better. Outside the building, there are lots of children’s drawing shown on one side of the canal.

A key element of the design is the flexibility of the space, which is intended to encourage the Centre’s users to feel at home anywhere in the building. The important part of my project is interaction. Interaction should take place not only between parents and their children, but also among parents and children.

Nowadays, people had a lots of psychological stress. Through the different social network, we can see the bright side of others people. We meet different people everyday. Talking to them. At the sametime, there a lot of competition from the work. People maybe feel their life is not as full and rich as those people you see. People become no confidence. People waste more time on jealously, social tension, isolation and depression.
I want to design a mirror for people thinking about themselves. It is called “me time”. The time is just for us. The mirror is the only thing that we can see ourselves. In my research process, I did two ways to put mirror, one is in the pubilc space, such as on the street or in the shopping mall. the other is in the private space, such as at home, in the office or toilet. Most people tend to private space. I design a mirror which is set in private space, for example, the toilet in school or workplace. As people going to the toilet, through induction, a motivational sentence is appeared on the mirror, such as “you are beautiful. You might not see it, but I do.” While the sentence appeared, the mirror becomes fuzzy, so that people can see the words clearly. Remember compliments you receive, forget the insults. To makes you happy.

OBSERVATION The bazar in 4. Levent is a temporary street market and famous for clothing. It is located in a residential area (upper middle class). Since the environment has a good infrastructure (a bus, minibus and metro station (4. Levent) are nearby), the market is well connected to the public transport. Market takes place every Tuesday from 5 am until 7 pm. The customers are local and most times inhabitants of Istanbul itself. Beside clothing one can also buy every day goods and fresh vegetables and fruits. It is more a ‚direct‘ way of shopping than window shopping. Advertisement is restricted to shouting and a kind of entertaining. One gets the impression the merchants use their stands as a stage; they themselves are the protagonists and act for their customers.

QUANTITY
we analysed the behaviour patterns between the merchants and customers. Although Turkish people love to talk (about the product) and interact between each other, the distance between those two actors is quite high since the table with the goods is between them. Sometimes the merchant is also standing on his tables which creates a even higher distance because of the different eye-level.

ANALYSIS All the goods which are sold there are scattered all over the market. There is no order so that customers coming there for the first time are not aware of the “organisation” of the bazar, and therefore, they cannot orientate themselves. Furthermore, we analysed the behaviour patterns between the merchants and customers. Although Turkish people love to talk (about the product) and interact between each other, the distance between those two actors is quite high since the table with the goods is between them. Sometimes the merchant is also standing on his tables which creates a even higher distance because of the different eye-level. After a closer look to the design itself we analysed all different kind of needs which are required. The merchants‘ needs are a storage place and a place to hide their garbage. Further, they need a place to sit down and have a short rest during the whole day. Normally they use their stand as a stage, so that they need a kind of platform to act whereas as would like to keep an eye on all the goods against thievery. Last but not least, merchants have their own identity. A place to show their “branding” so that people can contact or find them easier would be good for their trade. As for the customers we assume that they are shopping around two hours on the market. Therefore, they have necessities such as food and toilet. For the comfort and safety, the place should be as manageable as possible: the orientation should be simple and easy, places to rest and sit down increase the sense of wellbeing. Consequently, customers might stay longer at the bazar as planned. By apparels requires also a changing place and mirrors. In general, in Turkey, the interaction between merchant and his customers is quite important. The distance between them is crucial for the act of shopping. After decisive aspects are the measurements and sense such as vision, smell and sound. For a deeper understanding of the distances, we studied different typologies of stands.

For the canopies we plan to add permanent poles which have the appearance of reduced artificial tree – similar to the master plan (one trunk and two branches). The hanging system will be temporary and only used on Tuesday. On the other days the poles should include a kind of light street art.

IDENTITY + ORIENTATION
5,50
CONCEPT Our first intervention is the re-organisation of the bazar. We created a master plan which makes it easier for customers and merchants to orientate. The three ‚arms‘ of the street include only one kind of goods and meet in the centre where the new food court will be. This food court should perform as a kind of forum and meeting place where people can rest. It is also visually connected to the playground so that parents can observe better their children. One of our vigorous ideas is a permanent colouring of parts of the ground. It alludes the current events in Istanbul and gives the bazar a new unique identity of the 4. Levent Market. Additionally, the colouring helps to orientate and gives an order to the master plan. There are three types of stands which we have developed. The old stands on both sides are for food. Every stall has a fabric to cover their area for garbage and storage, which should also show the personal identity of the merchants. The second type is an ‚island‘ for apparels and household. The idea derives from a stage. Customers can access this area to interact and talk to the salespersons. In the centre there is the third and unique type for a new food court which has a connection to the playground. Food can be bought from inside the ‚island‘ or from outside if people want to go on and not sit down and rest.
