This umbrella consists of a concave dowm surface- The skin. A series of stretcher and a shaft supoort the surface. When the runner is in the down position, the stretchers are completely flattened along the pole. Analysis

This umbrella is black and simple. It is a ‘skin and bone’ object, bone refers to the aluminium skeleton structure and skin is black surface which is make of polyester (or nylon). The umbrella is mainly functioned through its ‘skin’ rather than bone, but they are supposed to work collectively. What I like about this umbrella is it is quite compact when it is shut. However, it is also fragile especially at rib end, so it may be easily damaged in a windy day.

This umbrella mainly consists of a handle, a runner and many springs ribs and stretchers. Those ribs connect each other by pin joint, so that they could rotate to open and shut. Umbrella usually used as shelter from rain, wind and sun. But, it also provide privacy for the holder, which is one of the reason why I like it.

Digital Model

Shaded model

Wired frame model

For making digital model in Rhino, basically loft, array along the curve are main commmand to create the figure of the umbrella.

Sketch Model I get the skin material from umbrlla and make the skin by balsa. Basically, skin and bone object is relied on-"bone is skeleton or structure", "skin" acts r o le o f b r ac in g. S o none of both can be absent.

Balsa bone consists of four parts which joined by three sections. And skin braced the whole structure by surrounding from the top to bottom.

The design was inspired by latern, which can be closed inwards. Thus, as a second skin, it change along with wearer’s demand instaed of rigid form.
