Title: Fleetstreet – Dead Darling Year: 2009 Materials: Digital print Dimensions: 40 × 50 cm Starting price: 50 € I think it fits this years Dead Darlings, because it was shot as part of a series that I created entirely in a theatre. With the series I tried to explore the stage as a working space.

Dead Darlings #6 — Inner Circle

07.

Title: New York Year: 2009 Materials: C-print Dimensions: 12 ×17 cm Starting price: 20 € Falling in love with a city can give symptoms like seeing the resemblance or trying to depict it in everything you touch… Which of course at some point becomes pathetic and completely useless. I am still in love with my city darlings. Auction one away maybe means it will get the big city life it was meant to have but was never good enough for.

Title: Research Year: 2011, Athens—Amsterdam Materials: Laser print-post it Dimensions: A4 Starting price: 0,99 ₏ I am always wondering if my research is more important than my actual artwork. I am always surrounded from newspaper clips, prints from Internet downloads, post it with all my thoughts, photos etc. Thinking of Dead Darlings, I realize that my research wall is my biggest dead darling. Research as a Dead Darling.

Title: Woman as Giraffe Year: 2004 Materials: Digital print, framed Dimensions: 12 ×16 cm Starting price: 5 € One day I became someone else. I whirled and stretched ‘til I transmogrified. Presto! An ambiguous figure. Up was down & down is up. Equipoise?

Dead Darlings #6 — Inner Circle

15.

Title: The Action Shot Year: 2009 Materials: C-print Dimensions: A3 Starting price: 5 € In my work I never take pictures of things that are happening... But this moment, the end of the race for the pink car, heralded by the man pissing in the background, somehow sums up so much. The blades of grass in the foreground make it seem like a child’s drawing. For some reason it makes me smile while breaking my heart.

Title: Dreaming of Being Matisse Year: 2010 Materials: Print, 180 gram Matt paper Dimensions: A2 Starting price: 20,07 â‚Ź This image is a scan of a found negative that was lying on the floor of my studio when I just moved in. My studio was located in an old photography lab. Somehow I found the composition very interesting and it made me think of the painter Matisse. By preserving the negative I would like to think of myself as a saviour of a great artwork, and I hope it will make someone very happy!

Dead Darlings #6 — Inner Circle

19.

Title: Lupus Pernio Year: 2011 (1940s) Materials: Ink-jet print Dimensions: 50 × 65 cm Starting price: 10 € As part of my artistic research, I became an untamed collector. While my collections initially act to fetch and carry, they developed an independent existence— and occasionally they are rather contrary to my artistic output. At this, my collection of photographed diseases is exemplary. The scientific image solely functions as an effective transmitter of information and its application by the adept is void of emotion. But gestures, composition and content might arouse curiosity to the layman. All the more, its abstruse appearance provides access and fertile soil to the imagination of the beholder.

20.

Title: Internet in Reverse Year: 2008 Materials: 1 C-print, 1 digital print, 2 frames Dimensions: 13 Ă—18 cm Starting price: 10 â‚Ź This is the result of rephotographing a laser printed digital image with an analogue camera; as a solution to appropriate images taken from the internet, that often feel too accessible and too easy to use. This idea was a starting point, the project took a completely different turn, the method and the photograph had to be abandoned.

Dead Darlings #6 — Inner Circle

21.

Title: Untitled Year: 2000 Materials: Lamda print in wooden frame Dimensions: 25 ×16 cm Starting price: 15 € The picture is the portrait of a dear friend which was kept in a box for several years and now it found its way out.

Title: Greatest Hits 2007 Year: 2006 Materials: Inkjet print Dimensions: 40 Ă— 60 cm Starting price: 20,07 â‚Ź I stopped being a photographer a while ago, so all my darlings are dead ones now.

Dead Darlings #6 — Inner Circle

23.

Title: Untitled scan Year: 1998 Materials: Color copy Dimensions: A4 Starting price: 1 € This piece was made in 1998 as a part of a series of playful collage scans. This one is my favorite of all of them. I actually don’t remember why those scans were made or what was the concept behind them, however, the tricksy aesthetic has been following me ever since and is visually evident in my work today.

24.

Title: History Year: 2011 Materials: Photographic print Dimensions: A4 Starting price: 5 € Not so much a DD more of a ‘odd-one-out’... Excluded from a series of prints entitled Multiple Exposure (Feb-April, 2011)

26.

Title: The Beard Block Year: 2011 Materials: Digital C-print Dimensions: 21×26 cm Starting price: 10 € What I love about it is not so much the image I took, as the actual page I photographed. It’s from a book on costume design that I first encountered in the Rietveld

library. - I had cutout’s of images I took of the book’s mustache collection glued to my laptop for years, until finally the cutouts wore out as did the computer. Then this spring I came across a copy of the book again. This time in the Rijks library. I felt like I was meeting an old friend and I got so excited that I documented my favorite pages all over again. This was done in sprout of enthusiasm and still, looking at the images I can’t help but just appreciate the curious shapes creative expression sometimes takes. My dead darling showcases a wooden beard block, much reminiscent of a loaf of bread that just had the scare of its life.

Dead Darlings #6 — Inner Circle

27.

Title: The Physical Possibility Year: 2005 Materials: Polaroid Dimensions: 7× 9 cm Starting price: 5 € This is a Polaroid’s SX-70 “Time-Zero” photo. It is out of production now, so it’s dead in a way.

28.

Title: Platform Year: 2011 Materials: Inkjet print Dimensions: 42 × 58 cm Starting price: 15 € The image platform has been taken on a summer vacation this year. It shows an early state of a small raft, that I have built for the sole purpose of keeping busy with something. It was meant to distract me from work - and almost served it’s purpose. Only for a short while, during the building phase, I began to photograph the strange beauty of the wood construction in the water. I suddenly started to think of a possible project - a quote from “lespace autre” was ringing in my head: “in civilisations without ships the dreams dry up, espionage takes the place of adventure and the police that of corsaires.” But then I quickly got a grip on myself and stopped before things could get out of hand... I decided to go through with my resolution to stay away from the intent to make art - now this image is what is left.
