In the early stage of the project, I was planning on using glass bricks as one of my building materials. In Thinking Through Making Week , I came up worth the idea of replacing parts of a block of brick with resin. The initial idea was to make a threshold detail with three different resin bricks. However, I was not able to make it by the end of the week as the resin took a long time to dry. The last brick was broken because I removed it from the mould too soon and the resin was not set. However, the process of making the brick was interesting and enjoyable. The brick also helped inspire my architectural form used in later stage. Collage of warehouse history in Liverpool

Site photos Our studio is focusing on exploring the idea of ‘transformation’ and the role of architecture in the ‘transformation’ of spaces and places. The year-long graduation project is based in the Baltic Triangle of Liverpool, a place currently experiencing regeneration from a forgotten industrial area to a creative and digital cluster. My proposal is comprised of three main parts: the communal public space which everyone has access to, the working space for the start-up companies and freelancers, and the living space for those who may be working here as well.

The adjustable roof blinds are installed on the atrium’s roof as a solar strategy. It is made of pleated blind fabrics with a reflective coating so that it can reflect direct heat and glare on the atrium in summer. As the existing building is attached to the brewery, the wall connecting the two buildings do not contain any windows. Therefore, the ventilation tower is introduced to the building to achieve natural ventilation. In addition, the openings on the ends of the existing building allow the ground floor and first floor to receive cold air flow.
Rain water is collected from the roofs and canopy. It is redirected to a watertank underground. The water can be used for the plants in atrium and domestic use 1. Rainwater from buildings’ roof and canopy. 2. Filtration system+ underground storage tank + pump 3. Filtered water and pump up to irrigate to the trees and plants

In my building, I decide to use CLT structures for the newly built part with brick cladding on the ground floor, Zinc cladding on the first floor and second floor. I wanted the zinc cladding to be red because it delivers a contemporary message and looks more harmonious with its surroundings. 1:100 hand drawn section
