Generic Vertical Sections The following set of diagrams illustrate different possibilities of arrangements of spaces. The diagrams include two building types - stacked towers and “tower + saddle bag�. Depending on the layout, certain transition spaces or programs can be exploited to become building features. The diagrams are made based on the assumption that all retail spaces are on ground level, with parking above and minimal entry spaces.

Merit school of music has an exsiting two story building. The new extension site is to the west of it, which serves for 300 student. The program includes one auditorium, one library, 100 pratice room, 10 classroom and administration. A courtyard garden is created to bring lights and community to both new extension and exsiting building. The form is formed according to its context.

Site and Program Analysis
1. Original site shape 2. Forming the site--make the northeast and southwest lower, northwest and southeast higher to get sunlight efficiency, avoid strong wind and take advantage of geo-thermal by enbeding half of the building in the ground 3. Designing the site--exposuring the rock layers on one side and forming a gentle sloping field on the other side of the road 4. Programs and communal lines in site 5. Plans and Shape
1. Floor I-- primary checking booths in the middle, non-commercial secondary inspection in the south and commercial secondary inspection in the north, each part has one side facing the fields. 2. Floor II--communal space for stuff including meeting room, cafe, kitchen and game room. 3. Curves in design 4. Perspective when entering the border station from Canada, seeing the exposuring rock layer on the left and natural field on the right, the second level and checking booth floating in between

1. Elevation I--feeling the nature both ourside in the field or inside in the building 2. Elevation II-- the changing elevation of the ground enables the changing views from the building 3. Elevation III-- function division that non-commercial checking in one side while commerical checking in the other 4. Structure and Details
1. Conbined structure I--concrete structure on first floor 2. Conbined structure II--20’-high vierendeel truss on second floor to achieve 200’ span without columns supporting 3.
