36 In today's circular Ernst Prost covers the meaning of trust, respect and friendship for company success Dear Entrepreneurs, ladies and gentlemen, hello friends! Trust, respect, friendship, when I tell an reporter about these three pillars of our success, than I can visualize the wrinkled forehead of my interview partner through the telephone... too idealistic? Then onto reality: Since Corona started we have created jobs and hired 36 people, we also distributed free goods to rescue organisations in Germany for 4 million euros. We have invested in an additional 18 million euros in advertising for our brand and our products, for the benefit of our customers in trade and in the workshop. And all of this in the middle of one of the biggest crises of all time. We are neither employees nor managers, but entrepreneurs, 1,000 co-entrepreneurs who are taking action with courage, diligence and expertise! Oh yes and we are idealists too... Our half-year revenues? 2 % above last year! Any more questions, Mr. Hauser? Trust, respect, friendship. Three pillars of our success and the most important ingredients for our cooperation. "Trust is good, control is better." Bullshit. I don't need to control a friend I trust. We work together in friendship with flat hierarchies, short decision-making processes and well coordinated teams. Egomaniacs and careerists have no chance with us. We are the brand, we are ourselves, and where 2

talent is perhaps sometimes lacking, we compensate for this with fighting spirit and morale - just like in sport. With us it doesn't need much instruction either, because we all want the same thing. You don't have to tell grown-up people what it's all about. Vote, inform, coach. In a community of people who work on a challenge with dedication and joy, this is quite enough. 1,000 co-entrepreneurs who all do something to achieve goals, accomplish tasks, create success and have fun doing it. There is no need for carrots and sticks, nor for any artificial motivation. The motivation is already in each of us!!! We don't have motivation trainers, "Tschakka, you can do it gurus", and no consulting firms either. We already know what to do, and so we do! Doing & do, instead of talking & discussing is clearly 1,000 times more in line with our company DNA and character than anything else. Sometimes I have the impression that it's a very lucrative business model to complicate simple things in order to be able to write big bills afterwards as a consultant... It is easy to make something more difficult than it is, but it is difficult to make something easier... The greater the complexity, the more we rely on simplicity and common sense. I trust in our strength, in our knowledge and in our energy. We live of a 1,000 small and different springs, all of which ensure that the big river always has enough water. so every day we make each other better, faster and smarter, because we listen to each other and because we learn from each other. We are a well rehearsed team and all of us have a strong winning mentality. Just as we listen to ourselves, we also listen to our customers. After all, we do all the "magic" for our partners and business associates, for workshops, dealers and drivers. Instead of management consultants, I prefer to ask screwdrivers, mechanics and master craftsmen, field staff and counter employees what we should do and what they expect from us. This way leads us all to a WIN WIN result. Because the best businesses are still those where everybody profits and there are no losers! EDITORIAL Dear LIQUI MOLY friends, Spot on for a real wow moment: Castle Leipheim shining blood-red! But as fascinating as this stronghold against corona and control center of our boss looked during the Night of Light – the occasion was far less pleasant: With this nationwide campaign, the event industry wanted to shed some light on the alarming situation caused by the pandemic. This cry for help from an entire sector of the economy is just one of many examples that shows us that the crisis is far from over, despite the far-reaching easing of restrictions. Corona still challenges us, not only as a company, but also our families, our friends, our business partners – simply everyone. This makes it all the more important that we stand together more than ever, support each other and break new ground together. True to the motto: There has never been a beginning like today! Now that the pure higher-faster-farther approach has been forced to take a break, our capability for excellent performance shows itself on many levels. Driven by social responsibility and deeply rooted humanity, we have been helping wherever we can for weeks – the emergency services and rescue workers all around the world as well as our customers and business partners. And we do this with the same passion that we have shown in recent years in the hunt for ever higher sales records. Nevertheless, we are dependent on pushing the sale of our products and the expansion of our market shares. Only in this way can we secure our future, our jobs and the well-being of all those people who live from and with their work for LIQUI MOLY. After all, it is the triad of doing business successfully, serving the community and lovingly helping others that distinguishes our LIQUI MOLY family worldwide. Minimum wage and old age poverty due to competition distortion through subsidies from tax money LIQUI MOLY CEO Ernst Prost on social dumping at the expense of the state Ladies and gentlemen. At the moment I am getting my ass kicked because I am in favor of increasing the minimum wage. Many companies would then no longer be profitable - so they say - if they had to pay higher wages, so they would rather maintain their profits than give workers the wages they need for their livelihood and which they have earned by generating the company's profit? Well, that can't be it especially not when the state uses all our tax money to help these employees and thus indirectly those companies. Through these type of employments, tax money needs to be generated to fight old-age poverty. Thus, companies profits are subsidized and the profitability for the company is increased by supplementing the to low wages for workers with state money. How is it possible that in one and the same

industry companies with this minimum wage strategy are still bumbling around, while others are able to pay decent salaries, also covered by collective bargaining agreements agreed with trade unions and workers councils? In this way, companies use their tax payments to finance directly and indirectly the subsidies of companies that do not maintain such standards and then even define themselves on the market through cheap prices. After all, there is no art in being cheap if I do not pay my workers decently, disregard tariffs and make minimum wages the yardstick for my calculation. This is completely out of line with the market economy, an abuse of the social systems and a distortion of competition. Competition should be fought over better performance, not over the resourceful exploitation of the welfare state and certainly not over the disregard of standards of occupational safety,

Companies that do not want to or cannot meet their social responsibility by offering fair and adequate wages should come up with a different business model or increase their prices - but under no circumstances should they be put in a position to use dumping prices to undermine healthy companies by obtaining all kinds of grants or subsidies directly for themselves and their employees or by sending their teams to the Federal Employment Agency to supplement their meager wages. Dear companions. Also a hot iron... Some people think they have a company to make as much money as possible - and that's it. No matter how, no matter what, no matter with whom, It won't work well in an enlightened society (Hopefully). Moreover, such attitudes and behavior do not do justice to the honorable merchant, solid entrepreneurship and the principles of free and social market economy, neither at the back nor at the front. Companies have a social and societal responsibility to fulfill otherwise they are useless! Brands are often the visible figureheads of companies. Brands reflect what the management thinks, how they act and according to which principles they lead the company. If there is nothing to be seen in this mirror of ethics, morals, decency, social responsibility and social benefit, the customer will move along and leave the brand, company and products behind - no matter how cheap they are. The whole spectrum of a company has a lot to do with trust because not everything that is important is visible, even in our age of Internet based transparency trust is needed - not only in institutions and companies, but first and foremost in the people behind them, who embody and exemplify the company, the brand, the corporate philosophy, the values and principles. Especially in times of crisis, people look behind the facade and want to know which company and which people are behind the services and goods offered. Then it's good if you don't just thrash out semantic empty phrases from the marketing kit but truly live and love the brand, remain true to your principles and accept your responsibility. People quickly recognize whether the text was created by an advertising agency or originates authentically from the brain, heart and soul of a team that stands for the product benefits as well as the brand core, corporate values and the social responsibility of a company.

It makes me sick to my stomach when I see how some corporate leaders trample on their social and societal responsibilities in order to make a few cents more profit. People are being laid off or sent on short time, corporate standards ignored, whined and begged for help from the state and at the same time publicity stunts are being held to improve the company's image... Not to mention lavish profit distributions, using all the tax tricks available, combined with fierce social dumping. Building confidence through authentic, sustainable corporate management and branding can be done differently. The economy must serve people and not the other way round! Solidarity with society, loyalty to individuals, to the community and to the state, as well as decent & considerate business practices are what people expect from a company whose products they should buy, more than ever. And more than ever, WE are striving to master this task every day, to justify the trust placed in us and to live up to our social, societal responsibility. Yours Ernst Prost

Dahinter steckt der ganz normale Umgang, den Menschen miteinander pflegen sollten. Und da für mich Familie mit das höchste Werte-System und auch eine der stabilsten und hilfreichsten Formen des Zusammenlebens ist, bezeichne ich uns und unsere Kunden als die Liqui Moly Family Worldwide. Wir unterstützen und helfen uns, wie eine richtige Familie. Das geht weit über eine normale Geschäftsbeziehung zwischen Kunden und Lieferanten hinaus. Warum mir Mitunternehmer tausendmal lieber sind als Mitarbeiter, ist doch auch klar: Mitarbeiten ist ja schön und gut, aber etwas gemeinsam unternehmen ist doch viel e#zienter und e"ektiver für eine Firma. Wenn alle in einem Unternehmen, anstatt nur mitzuarbeiten etwas mitunternehmen, kommen auch tausendmal bessere Ergebnisse raus. Mich wundert immer wieder, dass ich diese – für mich so selbstverständliche – Unternehmens-Philosophie auch nach 20 Jahren immer wieder erklären muss. Sie haben Ihr Unternehmen verkauft, sind aber noch als Geschäftsführer tätig. Denken Sie über einen Rückzug nach? Rückzug kommt in meinem Instrumentenkasten nicht vor. Ich habe die Firma an Würth verkauft, damit ich in Ruhe sterben kann. Klingt extrem, ist aber nichts anderes als die Nachhaltigkeit, die Sicherheit – vor allem für mittlerweile 1.000 Arbeitsplätze und noch mal ein paar 10.000 Arbeitsplätze bei unseren Kunden – über meinen Tod hinaus abzusichern. Damit der Firma nichts passiert, wenn mir was passiert und damit weder Familie noch Kolleginnen und Kollegen am Grab stehen und dumm dreinschauen, weil sie nicht wissen, wie es weitergeht. Liqui Moly ist Namenssponsor der Handball-Bundesliga, unterstützt die Ulmer Basketballer, den Motorsport und viele weitere Sportarten. Sind Sie selbst ein begeisterter Sportfan und wenn ja, für welchen Verein schlägt Ihr Herz?

Einspruch, euer Ehren, wir unterstützen als Sponsor keine Vereine und auch keine Sportveranstaltungen. Das ist reines Business. Wir geben Geld, das der Verein gut brauchen kann – logisch – und dafür bekommen wir als Gegenleistung Werbeflächen und Medien-Präsenz. Das hilft uns wiederum, den Bekanntheitsgrad unserer Marke zu stärken, auf dass wir mehr Umsatz machen und neue Kunden gewinnen. Das ist ‚the name of the game‘ im Sponsoring. Mein Herz schlug für den TSV Lauterbach. Dort habe ich als junger Kerl in der C-Klasse Fußball gespielt. Den FußballVerein gibt es nicht mehr und ich bin mittlerweile froh, wenn ich eine Halbzeit, also 45 Minuten fehlerfrei spazieren gehen kann, ohne aus der Puste zu kommen (lacht).

Wo liegt Ihr tieferer Antrieb für Ihr soziales Engagement? Der Herrgott hat es gut mit mir gemeint. Ich habe in meinem Leben viel Glück gehabt und in Verbindung mit Fleiß und Ehrgeiz auch gutes Geld verdient. Der reichste Mann auf dem Friedhof zu sein, ist für mich nicht erstrebenswert. Deshalb setze ich mein Geld dort ein, wo es Nutzen stiftet. Und das ist in einer meiner drei Stiftungen. Ich helfe gerne, wo Not gelindert werden kann, wo wir Menschen durch Kerstin oder meinen Sohn, der in der Stiftung mitarbeitet, helfen können. Ich denke, es zeichnet uns Menschen aus, dass wir nicht kaltherzig oder egoistisch die Not anderer Menschen ausblenden, sondern tatkräftig und mit Nächstenliebe helfen, wo Hilfe gebraucht wird.

Sie haben das baufällige Schloss Leipheim vor 15 Jahren ersteigert und umfangreich renoviert. Was gefällt Ihnen an Ihrem Zuhause besonders? Was ist Ihr Lieblingsstück im Schloss und welche Geschichte verbirgt sich dahinter?

Das ganze Schloss ist ein einziges Museum geworden, eine Art Installation, wie die Künstler sagen würden. Ich habe Amethyst Drusen, die 200 Millionen Jahre alt sind, mit modernen Werken komponiert. Und in allem sehe ich die Schöpfung, das Werk Gottes. Ich erkenne sehr demütig und dankbar, dass unser Leben ein Geschenk ist, obgleich unser Leben auch nur ein Wimpernschlag in der Erdgeschichte darstellt. Schloss Leipheim inspiriert mich. Bei Tag und Nacht. Für meine Arbeit, für mein Leben und auch für die Zeit nach meinem Leben. Sie sind ein Valentinskind. Würden Sie sich als romantisch beschreiben? Klar bin ich romantisch. Und liebevoll. Aber ich kann auch zornig und wütend sein, wie ein Rumpelstilzchen. Schließlich bin ich ein Mensch. Und Menschen haben vielerlei Facetten. Mir ist nur wichtig, dass ich mir selbst treu bleibe und ich mich nicht verbiege, weil es opportun ist. Auch jetzt in der Corona Krise haben Sie der Belegschaft mit 1500 Euro für ihr Engagement gedankt und verzichten auf Ihr Gehalt. Woher kommt diese soziale Ader? Ernst Prost: Soll ich vielleicht lieber unsozial sein? Soll ich darauf hinarbeiten, dass ich irgendwann der reichste Mann auf dem Friedhof bin? Soll ich Geld zu meinem Fetisch erheben? Soll ich geldgierig und vielleicht sogar noch habsüchtig und geizig werden? Das macht doch alles keinen Sinn. Es ist doch schön, wenn ich anderen Menschen helfen kann. Menschen, die in Not geraten sind, weil ihnen das Schicksal wirklich übel mitspielt. Dafür habe ich meine Stiftung gegründet und sie mit ausreichend Finanzkraft ausgestattet. Seit zwei Jahren arbeite ich übrigens noch mit einer dritten Stiftung: Frieden für Menschen und Menschen für Frieden. Ich arbeite im Kuratorium der Stiftung Weltethos mit und versuche, zusammen mit meiner Frau Kerstin Thiele, die die Hauptarbeit leistet, einfach nur Gutes zu tun und Sinnvolles zu leisten. Das hat aber nichts mit den Prämien für meine mittlerweile 1.000 Kolleginnen und Kollegen in der Firma zu tun. Da geht es um Dankbarkeit meinerseits, um Respekt und auch um eine finanzielle Anerkennung für herausragende Leistung. Unsere Erfolge sind das Ergebnis einer grandiosen Teamleistung.

Ulm TV - Redaktion: Sind Sie mit Ihrem beruflichen Werdegang zufrieden oder würden Sie etwas anders machen? Ernst Prost: Auch wenn ich was ändern wollen würde, könnte ich es nicht, weil es vorbei ist. Also ist diese Frage obsolet und solchen Gedanken gebe ich mich auch gar nicht hin. Ich schaue lieber nach vorne, auf meine to-do-Liste, auf mein Arbeitsprogramm, versuche nebenbei noch ein paar Visionen zu entwickeln und freue mich, dass ich noch lebe. Aber klar ist auch, dass ich allen Grund zu großer Dankbarkeit und Demut habe, dass mich das Schicksal und unser Herrgott auf solch einen Weg geschickt hat. Und diesem Umstand trage ich Rechnung durch meine nutzenstiftende Arbeit in der Firma und mit meinen Stiftungen. Ulm TV - Redaktion: Abschließend ein paar Worte aus Ihrer Sicht zur aktuellen Lage. Ernst Prost: Wenn ich die aktuelle Lage in Deutschland mit der aktuellen Lage in allen anderen Ländern dieser Welt vergleiche, komme ich zu dem Schluss, dass es uns in unserem Lande noch ganz passabel geht. Durch meinen Job habe ich sehr viel Kontakt zu Menschen in anderen Ländern. Alle beneiden uns. Um Demokratie, um Freiheit, um Rechtsstaatlichkeit und jetzt in dieser Zeit noch viel mehr um unser Gesundheitswesen, um unsere starke Wirtschaft, um unsere Gesellschafts-Strukturen, um unseren ausgeprägten Bürgersinn und um unsere stabile und soziale Gemeinschaft. Als ein Volk, das sich nicht nur in Krisen verantwortungsvoll, sozial und in großer Nächstenliebe um die Schwachen auf der Welt kümmert. Ich möchte in keinem anderen Land dieser Welt leben und arbeiten. Und ich empfinde es als eine Gnade, in dieser Zeit in unserem Lande leben zu dürfen. Schloss Leipheim, in dem ich wohne, erzählt mir da so manche Geschichte über die angeblich so „gute alte Zeit“, die definitiv überhaupt nicht so gut war. Ja, ich glaube sogar, dass aus dieser Krise Gutes und Sinnvolles erwächst. Risiko-Vorbeugung für die nächste Epidemie, zum Beispiel, aber vor allem eine weitere Stärkung unseres Gemeinschafts-Sinnes als eine zutiefst menschliche Gesellschaft mit Werten und Idealen!

Dear co-entrepreneurs, Every morning, an industrious ant came happily to work. She loved her work. Here she spent most of the day working hard, always humming a song. And so she worked diligently day after day. The director-general, a big fat beetle, found that there was no one to supervise the ant. It could not go on like this! He created a supervisor position and hired a dung beetle with a lot of experience. The first concern of the dung beetle was to standardize the working hours. He prepared various reports on this topic. Soon, the dung beetle needed a secretary to compile these reports. A spider was hired to set up an archive and take telephone calls. And the ant continued to work cheerfully all the time, because she liked her work and, from time to time, she hummed a little song. The director-general was delighted with the work of the dung beetle and asked him for graphic presentations and future development analyses. So it became necessary to hire a fly to help the supervisor. They bought the fly a laptop, with which he could make the reports nice and colorful. Well … the industrious ant soon stopped humming a song, complaining that she had so much paperwork to fill out instead of actually working. The director-general then decided that an administrator was needed for the department in which the ant worked. This responsible task was assigned to the grasshopper, who first demanded that a special office chair be bought for him. Of course, he also needed a car, a laptop and access to the intranet. And, of course, he also needed a personal assistant, the toad, who had already worked at her old workplace as a secretary for the grasshopper. The ant stopped singing. She became more and more restless and nervous.

“We need to commission a panel to gather data for a study on the working class and to write a report.” No sooner said than done. The selected specialists immediately set to work for months at considerable expense. In the meantime, the director-general noticed that the department in which the hard-working ant had previously worked so cheerfully no longer generated the same profit as before. He turned to the owl, an expert in business management who was paid thousands of euro in consultation fees. She was asked to analyze and diagnose what needed to be done. The owl bustled around in all the offices of the company for three months. She then submitted a final report which said: “You have too many staff; there should be a reduction in headcount.” Following the expert advice of the owl, the director-general dismissed the ant. Justification: “Unfortunately, the ant has suffered a total loss of performance and does not work as diligently as in the beginning. Instead, she only whines about the annoying bureaucracy and the constant controls. The bottom line: The ant has to go, because we need efficient employees who go to work cheerfully and hum a song or two!” I hope the truth that’s in this story will never apply to us!!! Ernst Prost

Check the tire pressure, light and service schedule Be absolutely sure to check this before leaving, and remember that manufacturer specifications refer to cold tires – if you’ve been driving fast, the figure can be much higher. Tires with less than three millimeters of remaining tread should be replaced before the trip. Switch all the lights on and off to check they work, including the indicator lights and brake light. It’s a good idea to carry replacement fuses and bulbs with you. If the next service is due while you’re away on holiday, the best thing is to bring it forward.

In the event of a breakdown Be sure to check the expiry date of your first aid kit. In the trunk, you should have a warning triangle and a safety vest as well as at least one tire repair kit. It’s better still to have a spare wheel or at least an emergency wheel on board. In the event of large splits and holes in the tire, a repair set will be of little use. The Tire Repair Spray is suitable for initial puncture repair of all common car and caravan tire sizes.
