Annual report 2015
"Our neighbor is anybody, particularly those who need our help." Martin Luther (1483-1546)
Dear friends, valued partners and supporters, dear donors,

We have experienced many wonderful meetings, moments of joy, of thankfulness, but also an endless amount of despair, hopelessness and sorrow. We are able to look back on a year in which we were once again able to give many people seeking help, along with charitable institutions, points of reference and hope – often in amazing projects that are sustainable and offer people help to help themselves. We thank you for your support and look forward to your faithfully standing with us and accompanying us with our work again in the coming year!
In 2015, the Foundation was able to grant 40 requests. We will continue to support and help with their work the "Straßenkinder Berlin e.V." association as well as the "Mobil mit Behinderung e.V." association, as we have in previous years. We would like to introduce you to a few projects: Kindertafel Sessen e.V. The Ernst Prost Foundation supports the children's table in the Seesen multigenerational house with a donation of 2,000 euros. The donation is being used for the purchase of childfriendly dishes, silverware, cups and plates and learning materials for children. At the children's table socially vulnerable children and young people are supported with healthy nutrition, such as with a free lunch. After eating, the children can take advantage of qualified help with their homework, remedial teaching, reading mentors and private tuition in the multigenerational house. Furthermore, sports activities such as football and dancing as useful leisure activities at the children's table. Almost 90 children from socially deprived families are currently being supported. One in two is from an immigrant background.
The number of people with handicaps is rising constantly. But as is the number of people we are able to bring a little closer to an independent life with individual mobility, year by year. This is only possible thanks to the amazing support foundations such as the Ernst Prost Foundation. Not least the cooperation with you puts us in the position to get involved specifically and, above all, quickly where help is needed most. In parallel to this we are working together locally with our partner associations, as well as on a state and national level in order to gain greater focus on the solution of problems for handicapped people from political decisionmakers. Thanks to the means that you make available to us we are, in many cases, able to offer support much more quickly and effectively. For the affected families this means that they are able to participate in the community more quickly or return to active life. This allows resources to become available sooner, which we in turn are able to utilize for other afflicted people. This puts us in a position to continue to responsibly process the continuously rising number of cases. For this we offer our thanks on behalf of our many voluntary, active helpers and also on behalf of the families that we have been able to help thanks to your contribution and will continue to help in the future. We look forward to a new year in which we are able to get a lot done again together!
Pleased to meet you! My name is MaNFred, I am the mascot of the Klingelknopf Foundation. My trademark is my heart-shaped ear. It is a symbol for time to listen. I help children that have not been blessed with any luck due to their illness. We support children and young people that are suffering from the currently incurable illness neurofibromatosis (NF). It is a hereditary, genetically determined tumor illness. It is primarily appears through tumors on the skin and/or on the nervous system. They are usually benign, but can lead to terrible deformations. This often means a lifetime of operation after operation. And sometimes operations don't help. The children and young people mean a lot to all of us, that's why we want them to be able to forget their illness for a week in "SchloĂ&#x; Dankern". Thanks to the generous support of the Ernst Prost Foundation and other sponsors we were once again able to invite 5 families on a vacation. The Foundation provided rent, bedclothes and cleaning. In addition, we were able to barbecue, eat pizza and bowl a lot.
AMPU VITA KIDS "A dance on one leg"…? This sounds like effortlessness, happy hopping and joy for life, doesn't it? Yes, in our work it is our declared goal to lead our AMPU KIDS and their families back to a life with effortlessness and lightheartedness – despite the difficulties of being handicapped. This also includes an unrestrained joy for life – being able to just dance through life for once – on one leg. Sadly, there are also children that cannot dance on one leg, because they have lost both legs due, for example, to an infection. Right in the early months of our work we found out that multiple amputations are no rarity! Around 1,000 children and young people are affected each year. Amputations in childhood are always a tough event in the life of a family. Lives – quite literally – "have their legs taken away." After an amputation life has to be completely readjusted. This is particularly the case for children, young people and their families. Parents and their children in this situation are confronted with an impenetrable jungle of options, questions and a variety of answers, but also unfortunately with limited laws. Thanks to combined experiences in a network of affected people, therapists, clinics and institutions we help through this difficult time, show people ways and are "just there" around the clock. Plus, we organize mutual events around the country. Here the KIDS play the STRONGEST role – they are at the center with the individuality, experience their own capabilities and pass on experiences to others.
The Ernst Prost Foundation contributed towards the costs of an educational and physiotherapeutic leisure time over several days in 2015. AMPU KIDS, their siblings and parents took part in this leisure time. The parents, in particular, are very important people in the lives of the AMPU KIDS and their family. They carry a greater burden than most other parents with children that are not handicapped and often manage a balancing act between siblings on a daily basis.

Hand zu Hand e.V. Hand zu Hand e.V. offers free advice and therapy for the deaf and hearingimpaired in Bremen, for children, young people and adults. In 2015 the club, alongside advice/therapy, was able to offer two courses with the help of the Ernst Prost Foundation: The CODA training program (acronym, Coda = children of deaf adults) for deaf parents and their hearing children as well as an art therapy offer for the deaf.
Somebody only becomes somebody when they are there for somebody.
Dear Ernst Prost Foundation... We would like to thank you very much again for the good cooperation. You really help us by allowing such important projects as therapy sessions with dogs for our mentally handicapped children. Once a week six children and two therapists meet up with their dogs in the gymnasium of the children's ward. Animal-supported therapy with dogs is then on the children's schedule. But the therapy is just a side-effect. The fact that our children can spend an afternoon with a dog is really something special. It is really nice to see how children build up trust, first with the dogs and therefore, sooner or later, with the therapists. This allows the dogs to form a basis for communication between people. The children begin to open up, to talk about their worries, problems and fears. Often these words are also directed at the dog and the children forget everything around them when they talk with the dogs, they brush them, play with them... It strengthens the self-confidence of the children and the dogs help give the children acceptance and intimacy – this allows them to become peaceful with the dog and to relax. We would also like to say thank you very much for the money for clothes! With this money we were able to buy a child without contact to their parents warm winter clothes. It is often hard for outsiders to understand that there are children in our establishment that do not move in with us with a full suitcase, but just a carrier bag. Sadly, this is often a bitter reality in our children's ward. Thank you again to the entire team around the Foundation for the quick and straightforward help and we hope that you will continue to be well-disposed towards us.
2015 project report
Project process For many years the ERNST PROST FOUNDATION has supported the "Bildungstankstelle (learning station)" project in the "Kinder- und Jugendhauses BOLLE". There the Verein StraĂ&#x;enkinder e.V. is actively working against children's and educational poverty in a socially disadvantaged area. At BOLLE education is given with fun and joy as it takes place in an environment different to school. Here homework, private tuition and educational offers are not seen as a compulsory event, but as a part of a great leisure offer, which is fun and supports children on a holistic level. Over the past year, 80 to 120 children per week in grades 1 to 5 have been supported by school and educational support in the project described. Children from 5 years of age were looked after individually and in small groups and this allowed up to 35 children to be supported in a productive school career.
The educational support took place from Monday to Friday during the opening times of the BOLLE children and youth house. After eating together, homework and compulsory tasks were taken care of and then the learning room was used for learning games and further learning tasks. Here, just as in the entire work of the BOLLE children and youth house, the relationship aspect within the work was in the foreground. We accompany many children on a daily basis with their homework and are constant contacts even for continued problems at home and at school. Over the past year the learning area for teenagers and young people was also expanded. Alongside homework help and private tuition, this also offers various opportunities that support young people's start in their working lives. This includes support with writing applications and help with the search for internships and apprenticeships. Many young people began training with our support in 2015. The homework and private tuition support in the children's area is currently carried out by 1.5 employees and by 3 volunteers, 1 intern, 2 people carrying out social work on their gap year, as well as further voluntary workers.
StraĂ&#x;enkinder e.V. Evaluation & successes In our daily work we regularly see small improvements in the children that, in the long run, lead to visible successes. Children who found it difficult to complete their homework alone, as they did not have important basic knowledge for it, are eventually able to approach their tasks with motivation and independence. Many children look forward to learning with us and enjoy the recognition of the employees. The fixed structures and processes at BOLLE also play an important role. They give the children support and orientation and help offer a healthy environment for the healthy development of their personality. We have many parents that barely involve themselves in the educational success of their wards. The deficits are particularly high among these children. Here, too, conversations with parents have already effected positive changes. Thanks to the "Bildungstankstelle (learning station)" project the often difficult family conditions and domestic problems that many children are exposed to are confronted with care and encouragement. Thanks to targeted support the children are able to experience everything they are capable of and discover their own potential for the creation of a self-determined future. In the coming year, the reconstruction of the "Bolle children's and youth house" will be complete and there will be two larger learning rooms. We look forward to this very much, as we are reaching our limits with the current room. All the children would like to offer their thanks for the sustainable support of the ERNST PROST FOUNDATION for this work:
LöwenKinder e. V. Frankfurt (Oder) is a skills network for children, young people and young adults that suffer from serious or life-shortening illnesses. Families with children that have life-shortening illnesses are medically well supported, but the normality of everyday life is missing for these people. This means there are still big gaps in the legal health insurance for the support of these families. These gaps can currently only be closed with donations. The Verein LöwenKinder Frankfurt (Oder) e.V., newly founded on 3/6/2015, would like to give those children affected a place to allow corresponding relief and recovery phases. With this in mind, siblings are also looked after by us. Our skills team is made up of a palliative children's doctor, a grief counselor, remedial and social workers, carers and family therapists. They are additionally supported by external physio, occupational and music therapists as well as by many voluntary helpers. Currently, 50 families from Frankfurt (Oder) and the surrounding area are supported in our house. Main focal points: -
Life cafè (grief counseling) Rheumatism cafè (rheumatism surgery) LöwenKinder time (occupational, relaxation, exercise, music and sound therapy) Psychosocial support Self-help group Outpatient children's hospice work
Kerstin Thiele from the Ernst Prost Foundation financed the LรถwenKinder Christmas party on 12/18/2015 with 1,200 euros. Plus, she came with the promise of a further 5,000 euros for the restoration of the stair lift. Many thanks.

The ERNST PROST FOUNDATION FOR AFRICA has already begun its work soon after foundation in June of this year: After intense discussions and viewing numerous projects at JAM Deutschland e.V. we have decided on two schools in Angola that we will offer long-term support to with a nutrition program. This is the Atchuyu and the Kassoque elementary school - there we are ensuring the nutrition of a total of 260 children. These projects are supported with a total of 12,480 euros; the money has already been transferred and the start of the project is in 2016. Plus, together with Rotary, we have supported a well-building project with 4,000 USD. The project "Little Angels School – Kenya" is also currently being worked out, which we will offer long-term support to from 2016 together with D&F Dentists and Friends – Helping Hands e.V. . We again thank you for your support and look forward to your faithfully standing with us and continued accompanying us with our work again in the coming year!
