When it comes to the Shiraz variety few regions in Australia can match the intensity and character of the iconic Barossa Valley.

This wine is in fact a celebration of the region as it was specifically selected from a range of vineyards situated within the area in order to create a wine that shows great depth of flavour, as well as complexity and length. Taking advantage of the various strengths of each sub region, the result is a wonderfully rich and balanced wine that offers great intensity of flavour, mouth filling fruit notes and velvety tannins that grip on the generous and firm palate. A wonderful expression of the great 2012 vintage, this wine is well worth tucking away in the cellar for another few years.

Keep it simple: a blanket in the bush is no place for a silver-service meal.

One dish for nibbling, one for main, one for dessert, the fewer dishes the better.

Avoid food that needs to be assembled on site. Individual sandwiches and cupcakes for instance are ideal.

If you don’t have a rubber-based picnic rug put a plastic drop sheet under your blanket to avoid damp areas.

Frozen water bottles can do double-duty in keeping the food cool and giving you cold water once they defrost.

Take plastic bags: one for rubbish plus a few more for dirty plates and utensils.
