Every moment you spend idling your car’s engine means needlessly wasting gas, as well as rougher wear on your vehicle. Idling for more than 10 seconds wastes more gas than is needed for startup. Overall, Americans idle away 2.9 billion gallons of gas a year, worth around $78.2 billion. Jettison Junk Mail. Over 100 million trees and 28 billion gallons of water are used to send junk mail to Americans every year, according to greendimes.com. You can stop 75% of unsolicited mail by registering on the Mail Preference Service on the Direct Marketing Association website (for a fee of $1). Within 90 days, most unsolicited mail will stop.

In the Community Our Community Sustainability Program supports the 5 E’s of municipal sustainability: environment, economy, education, equity, and community engagement while educating the public about their Sustainable City Plan. Our Program also serves as a conduit between educational efforts and governmental organizations.

Sustainable Works is a nonprofit organization committed to providing environmental education and action-driven results to students, residents, businesses and the community at large.

The Community Sustainability Program: • Expands community participation across all demographics • Engages youth in hands-on projects • Helps cross-promote environmental initiatives • Publishes a monthly sustainability newsletter highlighting upcoming green events • Hosts public educational forums, featuring experts on a variety of engaging sustainable topics

Our Residential Greening Program manages the Green Living Workshops to empower you with tangible, effective tools to immediately reduce your environmental impact, cut your resource use and save you money.

Sustainable Works will provide your business with the tools and resources you need to reduce your costs, waste and environmental impact. We assess your current operations, provide you with a list of recommendations, and then guide you through the step-by-step implementation of the measures you select. We also train and educate your employees.

At School Our Student Greening Program is based on unique, community-building, peer-to-peer workshops where students learn to incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives. The knowledge they gain will help them become the next generation of environmental leaders. These unique workshops provide: • Student leadership training and public speaking opportunities • Interactive group discussions, thought-provoking activities and field trips that demonstrate sustainable innovations and technologies • Volunteer options with nationally recognized environmental organizations • Ways for students to connect what they learn in their college courses to today’s most pressing environmental issues
