What Students Learned All I’ve learned I applied in this project. Just learning in class is forgotten afterwards, but because of this project, I had a chance to see a real-life situation. I had to look back at all class work to get this project done.

Global Academics Internship Program This career-oriented program is designed for students interested in studying abroad, gaining experience working in a North American workplace and building confidence in intercultural communication in academic and professional settings. This unique opportunity for international students to sharpen their skills both in the classroom at UBC and in the workplace with Vancouver companies gives students the edge for finding some of the best jobs with the best companies in their home country. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

MAJOR Topics

The Global Academics Internship Program (GAIP) is an intensive four-month, full-time program. The program offers a combination of lectures, group discussions, industry and faculty guest speakers, research assignments, presentations, skill-building activities, project work and an internship.* The internship is designed to provide the student valuable on-the-job experience and exposure to North American workplace practices in the private, public and non-profit sectors.

Global Career Foundations Program This communication and career-oriented program is designed for students interested in studying abroad, building confidence in intercultural communication and gaining experience working in a North American workplace. This unique opportunity for international students combines English language and academic study with a workplace internship. It gives students the opportunity to learn to bridge the cross-cultural challenges that face today’s integrated global economy. PROGRAM OVERVIEW

MAJOR TOPICS

The Global Career Foundations Program (GCFP) is an intensive four-month, full-time program. It offers a combination of seminars, workshops, skill-building activities, projects and an internship.* The internship is designed to provide the student with valuable on-the-job experience and exposure to North American workplace practices in the private, public and non-profit sectors. Students also take the foundational course in Language and Culture at UBC’s English Language Institute.

Global Career Development Internship Program This eight-week, full-time program provides international undergraduates with practical intercultural communication and presentation skills to help them in their career goals. In addition to classroom training, students have the opportunity to participate in a Vancouver-based internship placement* to learn first-hand about North American workplace culture. Together, the components of this program provide students with invaluable skills necessary to find postgraduation employment in today’s increasingly global and diverse academic and professional settings. What Students Learned It gave me an idea of how to study in the IT field in English. The final IT project is very useful and I improved my presentation skills.

Global Tech Program The Global Tech Program (GTP) is an integrated Information Technology (IT) and Communication program for international university undergraduates. In this four-week, full-time program students improve their IT skills, build confidence in the cultural aspects of international study and more fully develop their intercultural communication abilities and knowledge of the terminology used in hightech workplace settings. About Vancouver Vancouver is the largest city in Western Canada. Greater Vancouver has a population of approximately 2.1 million. ENGLISH LANGUAGE STUDY AT UBC The University of British Columbia Continuing Studies offers a variety of programs to develop English language skills. The UBC Continuing Studies English Language Institute (ELI) has welcomed thousands of international students since it first opened in 1969. ELI instructors are experienced ESL teachers who are leaders in the field of language education. Located at the centre of the UBC’s Vancouver campus, the ELI offers a range of full-time programs throughout the year. Students who would like to take a short program (three or four weeks), may be interested in English for Business Communications or Language and Culture. Students looking to develop their English skills further, may prefer the Intensive English Program (two months or more). All ELI programs offer students the opportunity to practise English conversation every day and enjoy social activities led by Canadian students.
