Thirteen-year MLB veteran Dmitri D. Young attended Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard, California. As a senior, he batted .425 with 11 home runs, 31 RBI, 37 runs, and 8 doubles, and earned USA Today High School AllAmerican honors. June 1991, Young was a first-round draft pick by St. Louis Cardinal. With a MLB career batting average of .292, home runs at 171, runs batted in at 683. Career highlights include: 2x All-Star selection 2003 and 2007. Dmitri D. Young, On April 4, 2005, Young hit three home Director of Switch Hitting runs on Opening Day in Detroit’s 11-2 win over visiting Kansas City Royals. Voted 2007 National League Comeback Player of the Year. Young was a Switch Hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals, the Cincinnati Reds, the Detroit Tigers, and the Washington Nationals throughout his MLB playing days.

Founded in 2012, the Dmitri D. Young Foundation’s mission is to assist young student athletes in developing a strong work ethic and healthy lifestyle through inspiration, education and opportunity while imparting the importance of working hard and healthy living to be the best that they can be scholastically, on the field, and in their communities. Dmitri D. Young Foundation provides grants and scholarships for programs, activities, and services that help youngsters reach their peak performance in life. We support programs that enrich and develop the athlete’s talents while teaching life skills and giving them the tools for a well-rounded future: Learning to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy choices is something all student athletes eventual deal with. We proudly support Local Schools, Youth Programs, Boys and Girls Clubs and Individual Athletes. Our fund-raising is for Local Youth Programs, Baseball and Softball Scholarships as well as Personal Needs Athletic Scholarships for qualified student athletes who need encouragement and an opportunity.

California Big League Academy Rich Rodriguez, Director

Thirteen-year MLB veteran Rich Rodriguez has worked as a professional pitching instructor since 2003. With thirteen years playing MLB Rodriguez’s knowledge and passion enable him to teach the best talent Southern California has to offer. Teaching proper MLB throwing and pitching biomechanics, and using the safest and healthiest methods possible, Rodriguez’s instruction is invaluable to the California Big League’s team. Rodriguez’s specially designed programs for California Big League Academy’s camps are guaranteed to help future “Big Leaguers” compete at all age levels. Located throughout Camarillo; our Baseball and Softball Camps only hire professional staff and counselors. With more than 6 Elite MLB retired players on staff (we guarantee at least three veteran MLB instructors at each camp) along with Special Guest instructors throughout our season. Richard Rodriguez, Director of CBLA

Rodriguez was drafted in high school by the Kansas City Royals in the 17th round of the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign, opting to accept a full baseball scholarship to the University of Tennessee. As a freshman at UT, Rodriguez earned a spot on the USA Team and was selected first team All-SEC his sophomore year. He was drafted once again by the New York Mets in the 9th round of the 1984 Major League Baseball Draft, and signed, beginning a Major League Baseball career that spanned from 1990 through 2003. A relief pitcher/left-handed specialist, Rodriguez was often brought in to face big hitters in key situations. Playing catcher means staying alert and quiet. The catcher’s job is to set the tone by calling the defensive strategies for the team. California Big League’s Catcher’s Corner brings MLB experience to our camps and we only teach major league catching techniques and drills.

Catching Instructor

Mike Lieberthal was an All-American catcher from Westlake High School, graduating in 1990 he established two single-season records that still stand. Lieberthal was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the 1990 draft. Lieberthal won the 1999 Gold Glove Award, and was 2x All-Star during his MLB tenure. His 1999 season (.300, 31 home runs, 96 RBIs, Gold Glove Award) was arguably the best ever of any Phillies catcher, and he caught more games in his career than any other Phillies catcher (1,139). His career 149 home runs at catcher were the most in team history. During his fourteen-year MLB career, he played for the Philadelphia Phillies, and the LA Dodgers.

MLB veteran Robert Fick has nine years experience as catcher, first baseman, and outfielder working in MLB. Named to the 2002 American League All-Star for the Detroit Tigers. Fick also played for the Atlanta Braves, Tampa Bay, Devil Rays, San Diego Padres, and the Washington Nationals. Currently Fick is working as a Sports Rep for Paragon.
