SANCTUARY - Design Studio VI, Spring 2017 Location: Lagos, Nigeria Critic: Peter Macapia Primary Program: Shelter / Treatment Facility The program of my building is primarily a shelter/sanctuary for the victims of human trafficking. It includes temporary housing, mental health, rehabilitation and medical facilities, legal and immigration services, administration and outreach, and education facilities. The basic logic of my building system is a series of continuous surfaces with varying levels of porosity to provide an atmosphere of openness and protection simultaneously. The lower level of the facility will include a more public program and the educational element of the program. The more open quality of the façade allows for the tension of protection and exposure. The upper levels of the building will include the shelter element as well as the other more supportive elements of the program for the victims. The façade surface will be more opaque and the apertures will be such that the victims can be protected from view of the outside but still enjoy an open environment.

THEATER OF REFLECTION - Design Studio IV, Spring 2016 Location: Venice, Italy Critic: Stephanie Bayard Project Team: Priscilla Bargas, Ok Bun Lee, Elena Smirnova Primary Program: Theater The fourth semester studio is a comprehensive studio, in which students work in teams to engage in a design investigation for an urban site which includes all aspects of design development, including documentation of typical construction details. The design was formulated through analysis of various types of experimental theater performances to uncover variation in relationships between spectator and performer. The project location in Venice offered many opportunities to play with site access through the different forms of transportation surrounding the site.

WOVEN MALL - Design Studio V, Fall 2016 Location: Midtown, Manhattan, NY Critic: Thomas Leeser Primary Program: Retail Through of a study of the circulation of fashion runway shows, I arrived at a woven design, programmatic, circulation and structural strategy. The strips allow the space to grow vertically while having an overlapping of lapping of program. The design was also influenced by the final review strategy. We used a robotic arm to display and communicate our designs. Choreographing the motion of the robot to enhance the explanation of the design was an integral part of this studio.

VARIATION - Design Studio III, Fall 2015 Location: Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY Critic: Carlos Arnaiz Primary Program: Housing I was interested in discovering housing through the exploration of pattern. Through a rigorous study of a particular shape, I was able to create variation throughout the site, in terms of size and level of privacy of courtyard, housing type, and mixed-use program. The rules of the pattern permeate throughout the entire building, including the facade and interiors.

The site has a square footage of over 100,000 sq. ft. and an FAR of 3.5. The zoning requirements were an important part of the project in terms of density and scale. The site location in Bay Ridge was also integral to the design because it is a traditionally working class neighborhood that is becoming more popular among a younger demographic

The building is made up of two components: towers and townhouses. The towers are disbursed throughout the site and are composed of a circulation core surrounded by compact studios and two bedroom units. The townhouses are the main component of the building and are four storey, one family units. Each townhouse has a small interior garden 24

WALL - Theory of Representation, Spring 2017 Location: New York, NY Critic: Kutan Ayata Partner: Maraike Crom
A Morning in the City of Tomorrow After waking to the sound of children laughing and squealing I walk over to my window to see the commotion below. It's a high tide summer day in the city. My Midtown apartment on the 3rd floor overlooks Madison Avenue. It's sunny and humid. The gates to the streets are closed today since the water level is close to its highest. The water is calm, reflecting the adjacent buildings and blue sky above. A number of people have already gathered along the wall for some recreational fishing and neighborly small talk. A coffee vending boat is making its way downstream, staying close to the wall, hoping to sell some cold-brew and iced coffees to the early-risers. The happy yelping is coming from a group of young adults a little ways down who are making a game out of pushing each other off of an inflatable. Even though it's a hot day the water must be quite icy still. This flood only came in a few days ago from the East River. It usually takes two or three days to warm up, especially when it is this high. When the water gets hot you really want to avoid falling in or being pushed in. I have seen some nasty things growing in there. During a heat wave the streets turn into perfect mosquito breeding grounds. The humidity becomes unbearable and a pungent damp odor fills the city. I feel bad for the cleaning crew, responsible for removing dangerous objects and pests after a serious period of flooding. I would imagine it's one of the worst jobs to have in the city nowadays. I pull my attention away from the window, check my watch and make my way towards the door. I grab my backpack and life vest as I head down to the street to join the morning bustle.

441 STATE ST - INTERNSHIP, SUMMER 2015 Location: Brooklyn, NY Firm: Prospect Architecture Assisting colleagues: Jeremy Shannon, Jay Woodworth Prospect Architecture is a small firm located in Brooklyn, NY. They specialize in residential work and PassiveHaus standards. The clients for 441 State St. wanted to extend the basement level of their residence so that they could have room for lap pool on that floor. They also wanted a full renovation and additions on the first and second floors. I was responsible for completion of the construction documents and participated in design meetings

UNZIPPERED - Design Studio I,Fall 2014 Location: North Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY Critic: Stephanie Bayard Primary Program: Ferry Terminal
The project is located along the East River Ferry route. In addition to serving as a ferry terminal, it also serves other programmatic functions such as cafe, retail space and a ballroom. The system can be broken down into three volumes which respectively house the ballroom public space, and ferry terminal.

INTERSTICE - Design Studio II, Spring 2015 Location: Battery Park, Manhattan, NY Critic: Craig Konyk Primary Program: Elementary School
The project came about through an interpretation of an elementary school as a community. Studies of various communities around the world led to an open concept design, where a dialogue between public and private is present. The park location allows for expansion which includes many interstitial spaces in which children can enjoy structured and unstructured learning.

Through studying the Battery park site, I was able to analyze the urban density, which led me to a form. Through spatial and aggregation studies, I was able to design inbetween spaces that could be contained within an overarching structure. The structure came about through precedent and programmatic studies, being certain to provide meaning to the undulation.
