SETTING UP
Many students decide to make a booklet portfolio for their digital pack. This gives you the opportunity to incorporate a graphic identity (and include some illustrative elements) to this document. This document should be set up in InDesign. This document is a double page landscape file.
SETTING UP
To open a new document, go to File : New. Select Document. If you have interactive content, select ‘Web’. Otherwise select Print for a booklet or portfolio pages.
SETTING UP
Select the following options: No of Pages: 10, Facing pages, Page size: (A4?, You may want to make a custom page size.), Orientation : Portrait, No of Columns : 5, Margins : 6mm. If making a look-book set inside margin to ‘0’ by unlinking the margins. Bleed and slug only needs setting if sending to commercial print.
SETTING UP
This is how your page will look as a 2 page spread starting with a single page, with the columns visible on the screen only to be used as a guide to help you place images and text. They disappear when you key ‘W’.
SETTING UP
Image frames are selected and dragged to size where you want them. These are used to place images or text within. They can be rescaled or repositioned by activating the blue bounding book using the selection tools.

With this result. Save your work. Press ‘W’ to view your work without framework lines. And ‘w’ again to reinstate. If your images look pixelated, go to View : Display performance: High Quality display. Don’t stay in this view though as it makes your machine run slow.

MAKING A MASTER
Name your document. This will then create a folder containing all your links (Ai & Psd files Used in the document), and a PDF amongst other files. This folder is what you hand in for a Digital hand in. Print the InDesign document for a physical hand in. Send the whole folder to the printers with a separate cover folder for a perfect bound booklet.
