Media Evaluation Question 6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

During the duration of making our final film we used a fair amount of technology for example, our ending was done with the help of final cut pro. Our group decided to use this because we had used it for GCSE and found it very effective and easy to use. However, this time around we found that there was one flaw in final cut and because we were on one of the older macs we spent a lot of time waiting for the programme to render. Although the rendering help us back I was able to create an animated version of our logo. Which we had used the scanner to scan in to the computer and edit on Photoshop. I found editing the photo to be easy as I use Photoshop a lot. However, making an animation was a whole new experience which I would happily do again.

The filming process took us longer than we wanted due to the lack of availability with the equipment. We made sure we had the essentials for example, a camera and tri-pod. These enabled us to shot long shot, close-ups e.c.t. however, we were able to get the crane, although it was a couple of days later than when we filmed. This didn’t matter because the weather was the same as when we filmed so no continuity error would be in the film. The crane was fairly easy to use as we had been taught how to use it. However, the trouble we had was making it not wobble or got too quickly because if it was quick in real life then it would he twice as quick on final cut. Although, final cut did have a stabilising tool which we used to make extra sure that our crane movement was steady. We didn’t use the track as it wasn’t available for when we needed it, so we had to change the original plan and tweak it so we didn’t need it.

Throughout the making of our final film I have learnt a great deal of skills. I learnt that there is more to just being a camerawomen. I realised that framing the shot is more important than I thought, therefore, I had learnt how to frame a shot properly which made the final film look better. I learnt that by listening to the director I could give myself more time and devotion to the shots needed to make sure they were right. Whilst editing I learnt how to create a moving logo. I used Photoshop to create 15-20 screen shots of the origami bird in different places. With this I then entered them into final cut pro so that I could place them in order and make them short shots so that the bird would look like it was moving. So in our final film we have an animated origami bird, I could have edited it better by putting more shots together like 40-60 then I t would have moved smoother, however, it would have eaten into the editing of our film and with the deadline so close we didn’t have much time left. The origami bird was drawn by Beth and I used Photoshop to create the final creation.

During the duration of the film being in processed I learnt to use other sites such as issue, prezi and emaze. These other websites helped me present my work in a variety of different ways, which I found made my work look more interesting. The group stuck to plans and deadlines and we only had to face making small changes in the editing of the film such as, the titles. The title for me where my nemesis because I ended up changing them at least 3 times to get them to blend with our film. This was achieved by changing the colour and font type of the titles to make them fit the film. However, the outcome of the titles we were all happy with. If I was to create the film again I would have given a longer parallel edit into the start of the film giving a bit more information on the antagonist and maybe put another victim in to the start to show that it wasn’t the first time he had done this before. I would hope to cause fear in the audience and show them what he is capable of.
