From our Executive Director Inspiration is all around us: you can derive new ideas from people you meet, places you visit and observations you make. Sometimes it is enough just to take a look around and observe the beauty of nature surrounding us everywhere. For instance, spring is often considered the most beautiful and inspirational period of the year, with its refreshing, colorful, vivid imagery. Anne Bradstreet said it best in the following quote, "If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste of adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome." At the YMCA, we are so inspired by our members and their stories. We have always known what this YMCA means to our staff but it has been amazing to hear what it means to all of you! Thank you for sharing your stories during our Strong Kids Campaign! It is my hope that you will continue to do so. Jen Kruel

Code of Conduct The mission of the YMCA of Dodge County is to respond to needs of families through programs that build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA principles include honesty, responsibility, caring and respect. They are the basis for all we do as an organization. Using them as a guide, we have developed the following Code of Conduct to ensure that all who enter our facility enjoy a safe, welcoming and comfortable environment. We ask individuals to act in a manner that upholds these principles at all times when they are in our facility or participating in YMCA programs. We expect those using the YMCA to behave in a way that shows respect and caring for others, which includes not using any language or engaging in any action that can hurt or frighten another person or that falls below a generally accepted standard of conduct. Actions not showing respect for others and are not permitted include:

         

Wearing inappropriate attire. Attire must include swimsuits only in the pool area; shoes, shorts and shirt or leotard in other areas of the facility. Clothing with vulgar or profane writing or pictures is not allowed. Using angry or vulgar language; swearing, name calling or shouting. Making physical contact with another person in an angry or threatening way. Engaging in sexual activity or contact with another person. Harassment or intimidation with words, gestures or body language. Behavior which is inappropriate, threatening or offensive in nature. Stealing or behavior which results in destruction of property. Carrying or concealing devices or objects which may be used as weapons. Using or possessing alcohol or illegal chemicals on YMCA property or in vehicles. Smoking. All YMCA facilities and grounds offer a smoke free environment. The YMCA reserves the right to deny access or membership to any person who has been accused or convicted of any crime involving sexual abuse, is or has been a registered sex offender.

Child Discipline Policy: Persistent discipline problems will result in parents/guardians being asked to attend a conference with the staff that will assist in working out an equitable solution to the problem. It is imperative that the YMCA staff receives total cooperation from the family. Violent actions, safety issues or a parent’s/ guardian’s unwillingness to be cooperative may result in the dismissal of the child from our programs.

New Partnership We are living our mission at the YMCA to build strong kids and strong families through collaborations with Lutheran Social Services, sponsored by Safe Schools / Healthy Students. Look for more information on the website about upcoming Middle School age focus groups throughout the summer and a very special Family Night at the YMCA on August 13.

Ways To Give Strong Kids Campaign The Strong Kids Campaign is an Annual Campaign designed to help members of our community be apart of the YMCA. You’ll not only offer a child, friend, or neighbor the chance to participate today, you’ll offer the opportunity to learn important values that will positively impact lives in our community tomorrow. For detailed information or to donate online, visit our website. Please consider a donation today.

Building a Lifetime of Opportunities The values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are implemented into every aspect of the YMCA’s services, program development, and operations. With the current community impact that the YMCA has, you can help make sure that these lasting values are woven into our community as well. The YMCA of Dodge County would like to offer you an opportunity to support the new facility and at the same time receive tangible recognition for your generosity. You may now Buy a Brick and help to Build a Lifetime of Opportunities, One Brick at a Time. These displays will serve as a reminder to future generations of their legacy to the YMCA. Bricks will be displayed outside in the front of the YMCA; tiles will be displayed on the wall by our Basketball Court.

Scrip—Fundraising While You Shop Give a percentage back from everyday expenses like food, clothing and entertainment. Purchase Scrip cards for personal use or gifts. This is one way to give your support without donating out-ofpocket money. Order or view a full directory of Scrip cards at our website. www.ymcaofdodgeounty.org/scrip-order.cfm.

Bea Bonner McKinstry “Begin to Swim” Program The Story of Bea Bonner McKinstry : On June 24, 1927, Bea Bonner and two friends were boating on Fox Lake when an unexpected storm hit the lake. In the turmoil of the storm, two men in a boat tried to rescue the girls. In spite of attempts to save them, her two young friends and one of the men drowned. It was only because she was a strong swimmer that Bea was able to survive. The message of this tragedy never left Bea. Because of the McKinstry’s concern and generosity, this endowment fund will benefit all youth, and hopefully prevent such a tragedy. The commitment of Bea Bonner McKinstry to the YMCA of Dodge County and her desire for all youth to learn to swim inspired the establishment of a special endowment fund. In honor of her eightieth birthday in 1989, her husband Randall McKinstry and her son John B. McKinstry created an endowment fund to establish the YMCA’s Bea Bonner McKinstry Begin to Swim Program.
