8 Steps To Overcome The Feelings of Hurt


Things in life, won’t entirely turn out as we expect that causes to get hurt along the way. You may get hurt due to lying, cheating in relationship or marriage by your partner or by a friend in friendship. Or it can also be a breakup. No matter what the reason is thinking about the past hurt for a long can cause a person feel stress, depression and anxiety. Thus its necessary to overcome the stress caused by the past hurt.

Here are 8 steps that may help you to overcome the feelings of hurt :


Step 1 - Acknowledging and accepting what hurt us.

Take your time to calm your emotions and settle your mind. Avoid numbing any emotions or distracting yourself, it’s okay to get hurt, so understand and acknowledge your feeling.


Step 2 - Get Very Clear About What Exactly Happened If they want to vent out their feelings, you need to show your true support by listening patiently. Without biases and judgments, let them talk their heart out.


Step 3: Resolving our Feelings of Hurt

Try to resolve by accepting the apology of the person who hurt you or in case of relationship, get closure by conveying to your partner that you are hurt.


Step 4: Time to Make a Decision Forgive the other person or to simply let go of the relationship and distance from the person as holding on will hurt you more.


Step 5: Let go of the past

Overcome the negative thoughts by understanding that we can’t change the past. Don’t keep thinking about the past or how we could have done things differently.


Step 6: Focusing on our Good Things Focusing on good things like what we are grateful for will allow us to create some positivity.


Step 7: Let go of the negative. It’s natural to think negatively after getting hurt but don’t look for validation in these negative thoughts.


Step 8: Not Taking Things So Personally

Sometimes people say and do things because due to their own personal insecurities and problems and end up regretting some of the things they do and say. Forgiving and understanding will allow you to focus on your own mental peace.
