Differentiating Between Counselor, Clinical Psychologists and Psychiatrists

A Counselling psychologist focus more on emotional, social, and physical issues that arise from typical life stresses or more serious issues associated with school, work, or family settings (Norcross, 2000). This oftentimes has long-term mental health benefits. The actual duration can certainly vary depending on your situation, but in general, it is usually 12 weeks or less.

With Clinical Psychologists, it is more about the diagnosis and intervention of severe mental illnesses without the use of any medications. But these are issues that cannot be dealt with counseling and need some serious supervision, for instance Severe Anxiety Disorder Major Depressive Disorder etc.

Psychiatrists are medical professionals who do not use psychotherapy or any other techniques that can help clients with their mental health concerns. Their main aim is to treat the physiological symptoms or the biological symptoms of the presented difficulty. When things become psychotic or need medical intervention, for example, schizophrenia, we might need to see a psychiatrist.
