Why we need closure after a relationship break-up?
After a break-up, closure from the past relationship allows you to let go of resentments, and to look normally at that event of your life and not in bold font.
Closure happens through:
Acceptance: Accepting the fact that either one or both of the person in relationship don't see any hope to continue, and its over for them.
Acknowledgment: Acknowledging the high and low points in your relationship help you understand what went wrong. Things you learned about yourself, your partner or your relationship, help you reach a conclusion after breakup and to get closure. !
Time to Grieve: It’s natural to feel pain after a breakup, so give yourself enough time to grieve the loss of the relationship and the person. When a person is no more there in our life in a symbolic way after the death of the relationship we need some time to get used to living without them.
Build Memories: When revisiting same places that you went to with your ex, its natural to get pangs of nostalgia. Yet avoiding such places won't help, try to build new memories in those places alone. Do not attach these places as special references of your ex.
No blame/guilt inducing act: Playing the blame game and make other the person feel guilty will not help you attain closure. When a relationship breaks it can be one or other person or both persons’ fault thus accepting yourself and other person as any other human being with flaws can show a way to forgiveness.
If you feel your relationship can work even after the breakup you may consider taking help of relationship counseling or online relationship counseling if you are not comfortable in facing the person personally. A relationship counselor will either help you mend your relationship or will help you find out what went wrong so that end of the day you both can be at peace and get a closure.
