Both demand a mastery of technique balanced with spontaneity and intuition. Surfing and Art are meditative practices where the practitioner becomes fully immersed in the present moment.

Surf and art are forms of personal expression, reflecting the individuality of the surfer or artist. Just as no two waves are the same, no two artistic creations are identical. Each session in the water or in the studio o ers a unique experience, shaped by the environment, mood, and the moment's energy.

“The Expressionism of Tides” is a week-long immersive retreat in the coastal town of Baleal, Portugal, crafted to help participants reconnect with their inner voices through the harmonious practices of Longboarding and Art. This retreat blends the rhythm of longboarding with the creative flow of the artistic expression, o ering a unique opportunity to explore and rediscover your authentic self in a serene and supportive environment. Rather than focusing solely on mastering techniques, the retreat’s primary goal is to bring you fully into the present moment, encouraging playful exploration and joyful connection with nature and yourself.
Location: The west coast of Portugal o ers consistent, gentle waves perfect for longboarding and inspiring landscapes for artistic activities. Ahoy Sur ouse is 5 minutes away from the Baleal’s bay and a walking distance from the forest
Dates: 4 - 10 of October
Target Audience: Adults (18+) with some previous experiences of surfing and curiosity about art. Everyone is welcome, from surfers seeking new experiences to seasoned practitioners looking to deepen their practice and reconnect with their creativity.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
THE LONGBOARD SESSIONS:
- Longboard surfing emphasizes a smooth, graceful style that harmonizes with the natural waves. Unlike shortboard sur involves quick, aggressive maneuvers, longboarding is about maintaining and rhythm.
- The sessions will focus on observing the “sweet spot” of the wave and ride the wave from start to finish, maximizing time on the wave, where its power allows for a prolonged, eventually help you going for the classic moves like cross-stepping, hanging 5, 10, or drop-knee turns.
- Key points: Fluidity and Grace, Connection with the Ocean, Wave Accompaniment, Classic Maneuvers, Mindful Surfing, Style and Expression.

WHAT TO EXPECT?
THE ART SESSIONS:
- Art sessions during “The expressionism of tides” retreat will combine the therapeutic aspects of creative expression with the e ects of being in nature and engaging in surfing.
- The Art activities will encourage a mindful connection with the materials and the process, rather than the final art piece, mirroring the mindful approach to longboarding. This connection between the physical experience and creative expression can be a powerful tool for self-discovery and emotional observation.

Riki and Lizzy, co-founders of Longboard Studio, are both surfers and artists who use their passions as pathways to connect with their souls and express their inner truths through art. Despite their di ering styles, they each bring a unique vision of the world to life. By hosting "The Expressionism of Tides," they invite you to connect with your individual voice and express it through both surfing and artistic sessions. The aim isn't to transform you into a master longboarder or artist overnight but to deepen the connection between your natural self and the environment, whether you're riding a wave or engaging on an artistic activity.
RIKI LONGBOARD STUDIO
Riki is a multifaceted individual who embodies the spirit of creativity, adventure, and passion for the ocean. As a longboard surfer and expressionist artist, Riki's life is deeply intertwined with the rhythms of the waves and the pursuit of artistic expression.
As a surf coach, Riki is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and passion with others. He believes in the transformative power of surfing and art, using them as tools to inspire his students and foster creativity and self-expression. Through patient guidance and encouragement, Riki empowers others to explore their own relationship with the ocean and unleash their artistic potential. Whether he's riding the waves, teaching others to find their balance on a board, or creating vibrant paintings that stir the soul, Riki continues to inspire and uplift those around him with his unwavering passion and commitment to living life to the fullest.

LIZZY LONGBOARD STUDIO
Lizzy is a Portuguese surfer and artist living by the sea in Peniche, Portugal. Since 2013, she has been creating illustrations inspired by her simple, ocean-centered life and the profound connection she feels with the sea. For Lizzy, surfing is more than just a sport—it's a spiritual practice and a path to self-improvement, with the ocean serving as her greatest teacher. "Soul & Surf" illustrations, a style that embodies the spirit of the ocean, the classic longboard movements and the soulful journey it inspires. She hopes her art resonates with others and brings a bit of the magic she feels to those who view it.
