“He’s a great player. In the future, he has the chance to become the best forward in the world!” ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI, BAYERN MUNICH 15

Look at me, I’m shakin’ my maracas!

The players are suddenly pretty nervous…

Altogether now! How do I turn this thing on? I'll wipe the smiles off your faces!

This is a school – not a fun factory. You’re here to learn!

It’s another fun day at school for the wonderkids…

Oh no! I’ve heard all about Mr Klopp!

Until their new teacher Mr Klopp turns up, that is…

Sancho is given some abstract algebra to solve…

Yeah, when he’s angry, steam comes out of his ears!

The hard work starts now, you scoundrels!

Phil Foden has to write 200 lines… Wait, what? Oslo is the capital of Norway? I thought it was N!

Can't even copy and paste on this stupid board!

Haaland has to learn the capitals of every country…

I don't even know who Al is, mate!

He’s gonna wipe the smiles off our faces, is he? Zzzzzzzzzz!

But after a long day of teaching, Mr Klopp nods off…

This is our big chance, Phil! What can we do?

The players hatch a plan to get their own back on Mr Klopp…

20 minutes later and Mr Klopp wakes up… Ha-ha! Ha-ha! Oi, what are you lot laughing at?

Think you've got something to wipe off YOUR face, sir!

Sadly for Mr Klopp it's the wonder kids who have the last laugh!

EPIC WONDERKIDS

FIFA 22 SIM!

TR ANSFER WINDOW! THE FIRST transfer window was crazy, with loads of weird moves happening in the Prem. Liverpool dropped £35m to take Jamie Vardy away from Leicester, the Foxes replaced him with Wolves’ Raul Jimenez, who then took a risk to sign Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale!

WONDERKIDS FC had so many awesome forwards in their squad and received loads of transfer offers – so they decided to let current Southampton star Armando Broja join West Ham on a permanent deal!

PR E-SEASON!

WE REPLACED NORWICH’S squad with the best Prem ballers aged 21 or under to see how well the talented kids would do in the league!

THE BIG BAD news was a serious injury to first-choice CDM Oliver Skipp. He was ruled out for three months with a broken rib, so Billy Gilmour jumped into the starting 11 for the season opener!

TH E SQ UA D! NORWICH'S ON-LOAN centre-back Ozan Kabak was surprisingly named captain. He was joined at the heart of the defence by Leicester youngster Wesley Fofana - and Leeds’ keeper Illan Meslier was handed the No.1 shirt!

THE WONDERKIDS set up in an attacking 4-3-3 formation to make the most of their creative talent. Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka joined Man. United pair Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho up top, with Man. City baller Phil Foden pulling the strings in midfield! 20

JAKE SAYS

THE PRE-SEASON warm-up was a big success for the young guns. They dominated their group, with Emile Smith Rowe putting in some heroic performances, but that wasn’t enough to get past Ajax in the final!

Oliver Skipp spent last season on loan at Norwich, so he should know his way around Carrow Road!

TURN OVER FOR MORE!

THE S EAS ON !

THE SEASON! WHAT A START! The opener against Liverpool looked bleak when Roberto Firmino scored after five minutes, but the wonderkids stuck with it and three second half goals earned a 3-2 victory!

ONE STANDOUT player was Mason Greenwood. He was transformed from a RM into a ST and scored loads in the league. He was nommed for POTM twice, but lost out on both occasions!

LEAGUE POSITION

5th

THE SECOND string started well in the cup, too, smashing Accrington Stanley 6-0. Eddie Nketiah bagged a hatty and Christos Tzolis hit a worldie! AFTER A DECENT start, form fell off in the league. Draws against Chelsea, Burnley and Brentford halted the team’s progress, with worrying losses against Wolves and Brighton. Wins over Everton and West Ham in the EFL Cup kept the morale high, though!

GETTING OLIVER Skipp back was super important for a very tough December schedule. Super-sub Ferran Torres came into form just at the right time, too!

AFTER LOSING in the cup, the ballers stepped up and kept LEAGUE POSITION on their strong league form, beating Man. City again and completing a league double over Southampton!

7th

12th WINS OVER Wolves and Newcastle put the wonderkids back on track – and in with the chance of a Europa League spot on the last day of the season!

JANUARY WAS a quieter transfer window all round, but our fave move was Newcastle swooping for former Prem hero Marouane Fellaini to pair with another legend, Cesc Fabregas, in centre midfield!

9th

LEAGUE POSITION

9th

BUT THEN, disaster struck. Mason Greenwood was hit with a serious injury that would keep him out until the end of the season. This gave an opportunity for Ferran Torres, who took his spot up top!

LEAGUE POSITION

DECEMBER WENT well for the youngsters and then things got dramatic in the EFL Cup. The wonderkids faced Man. City in the quarter-finals and the sides couldn’t be separated after 90 minutes. Pens LEAGUE POSITION were tense, and after Meslier saved from Bernardo Silva, Billy Gilmour hit one top bins to win it!

GREENWOOD'S INJURY MADE the team stumble – they crashed out of the FA Cup to Chelsea and then lost badly to an Alexandre Lacazette-inspired Arsenal!

LEAGUE POSITION

6th

BUT THEN they lost 1-0 to Tottenam. Emile Smith Rowe hit the bar but the defeat meant they slipped into seventh and ended up with a Europa Conference League spot! LEAGUEFINPOSAL ITION

RESULTS

IN THE wonderkids squad, both Brandon Williams and Ozan Kabak were recalled by their parent clubs, which left them short at the back. Burnley’s Nathan Collins became the new captain!

7th

PREM CHAMPS:Man. City GOLDEN BOOT:Salah, Liverpool, 27 GOLDEN GLOVE:Meslier, Norwich and Ederson, Man. City, 9

He returned to England in 2019 to join League Two Crawley, but after playing just four games he signed for Dutch second division team Telstar last year!

Keeper

WONDERKIDS WAY BACK!

SAM WAS loaned out TEN times during his seven years at Old Trafford – but he was another player who never made a single appearance for the Red Devils. KEANE WAS handed his Premier League debut by Louis van Gaal in 2014 – but that was to be his only league appearance for the club. A L A I S U JAMAL M

s lk ta r e ll a b h ic n u M rn e y a B The 18-year-old the top so quickly! about how he got to How did you get into football? JAMAL SAYS: “I was born in Stuttgart and then we moved to Fulda in Germany when I was around two. I started kicking ball there. I was just having fun and then my mum had to move. She was at university in Southampton, so we were there for four months and I was playing football for different teams!”

When did you get scouted? JAMAL SAYS: “I think I was watched at one of the games I played with Southampton, and I was offered a trial at Chelsea, so I was like: "Of course!" I was nervous and didn’t speak the language very well. I learnt English in about six months and everything went well!”

You could have played for either England or Germany – how did you pick? JAMAL SAYS: “It was a hard decision. I thought for a long time about what I was going to do. I thought Germany was best for me and where I’d feel most comfortable. Even though England got to the final of the Euros, I have no regrets. I still have that love for England, my boys are there, like Jude Bellingham. If England are doing well, then I’m happy!”

What are your ambitions in the game? JAMAL SAYS: “Right now, I just want to keep improving and working on myself, and then keep winning titles – Bundesliga, Champions League and hopefully with Germany win the World Cup next year, then the Euros!”

JAMAL was in Chelsea's youth academy as a kid!

What’s it been like since you signed for Bayern? JAMAL SAYS: “At the start, I was nervous. You look at players like Robert Lewandowski and think this isn’t normal, but then after a while it becomes normal. I can now say that they’re my friends!” Jamal Musiala was talking to Craig Mitch on MOTDx

INTERVIEW

ROY OF THE ROVERS ROTR BOOKS INTERVIEW!

We chat to the two (fictional) wonderkid siblings from the ace football book series, Roy and Rocky Race!

AND SHIRT! WOW! ONE LUCKY reader will win a complete set of all 14 Roy of the Rovers books, signed by the authors. They’ll also bag themselves the official Melchester Rovers shirt. How wicked is that?

ROCKY! ROY! Roy and Rocky, you two are both teenage rising stars at Melchester Rovers – what’s the best thing about being a footballer?

What advice would you have for young ballers wanting to play for big clubs like you do? How do they keep improving their all-round game?

ROY SAYS: “Just being able to play the game I love for a living and getting THAT awesome feeling when the ball hits the back of the net!” ROCKY SAYS: “Being much better than my brother at something. Ha-ha!”

ROY SAYS: “Just work hard, listen to your coaches, and don't get distracted by the stuff that's not that important. If you love the game, just focus on that and getting better as a player!” ROCKY SAYS: “I'd say find the position on the pitch that suits you. I started out wanting to score every game. But someone needs to do the hard graft in the middle of the park!”

Who are your favourite young ballers in world football? ROY SAYS: “I love watching Erling Haaland play. He and I are similar players, I suppose. Both of us are blond, too. I think my rocket's better, though!” ROCKY SAYS: “Hanna Bennison of Everton. She plays midfield, like me – and she's not that much older. She’s someone I look up to!”

38

You’re both National Literacy Trust reading champions. Why do you believe reading is so important? ROY SAYS: “You train on the grass in order to improve your body and your skills, you read a book to improve your mind. It's the same thing, really!” ROCKY SAYS: “He's right. Dad and Mum always taught us we had to be good at schoolwork as well as on the football pitch. And reading really helps you escape all the pressures of anything that might be bothering you!”

My footy journey!

ERIN CUTHBERT IN FOCUS

ERIN SAYS: “I remember playing boys football and going from seven to 11-a-side – I was told by a coach I wasn’t strong enough or fast enough to make the transition, so I moved to a club where I felt valued and we won the treble that year!”

42

ERIN SAYS: “I love my job. I’m living the dream and getting paid for it. Being a footballer means analysing the opposition, working in the gym, injury prevention exercises, tactical sessions, pitch training sessions and playing matches, of course!”

ERIN SAYS: “My highlight was playing at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. My hopes for the future are to continue playing professionally and living the dream – aspiring to win the Champions League and to keep qualifying for major tournaments with Scotland!” MY ADVICE TO YOU IS…

"Listen to your coaches, work harder than anyone else – no dream is too big!"

My school days!

My heroes!

ERIN SAYS: “My favourite subject at school was PE – I loved running around and being active. Maths was my least favourite, as I’ve always hated crunching numbers. Then after school, I’d kick the ball around with my papa and our dog!”

ERIN SAYS: “Growing up, I used to watch Rangers at Ibrox with my dad. My football idol was Scotland captain Julie Fleeting – I remember when I was a kid, walking out onto the pitch with her when I was Scotland mascot!”

FLEETING scored 116 goals in 121 games for Scotland!

ERIN SAYS: “In 2016, I was playing for Glasgow City while studying at the University of the West of Scotland, one-and-a-half years into my degree, I was asked if I wanted to train with Chelsea for a few days. They offered me a contract after that!”

My top tips!

When I was… TEN YEARS OLD…

ERIN SAYS: “If you want to become a footballer, three skills are vital – teamwork, communication and determination. You should also practise, practise, practise. Also, don’t get too high on the highs or too low on the lows, and be prepared to make sacrifices in your life to get where you want to be!”
