FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Issues with bus delays in Hicksville schools The first week of school got off to a rocky start in the Hicksville school district. The district has partnered with a new bus company, Baumann & Sons, and there were issues with student pickups and dropoffs and late arrivals to schools. Hicksville School Superintendent, Dr. Carl Bonuso said that some delays were to be expected during the initial week of school especially with a new bus company on board. “This is part of the transition of a new school year, a new bus company and modified routes,” said Dr. Bonuso. “We have a new transportation software routing system in place and we’ve made the adjustments necessary to make this a much more efficient system.” He said the new transportation software offers tight integration
with routing, vehicle tracking, student tracking and vehicle data status. One parent who did not want to be named said her sons bus was forty minutes late picking him up and dropping off at the bus stop during the first two days of school last week. “My son goes to Fork Lane and I literally waited almost an hour in the morning for the bus to arrive,” said the parent. “This is unacceptable. I never had this issue before with bus service.” Dr. Bonuso said the district had contacted the bus company and that they have been fully cooperative in their effort to be on time for dropoffs and pickups. “Everyday we have seen a marked improvement,” said Dr. Bonuso. “We are doing everything that needs to be done to alleviate delays and make it easier for our students.”
