Looking for a Trusted Real Estate Advisor and Community Expert? Let Maureen guide you with all of your real estate needs!
“Maureen is an excellent realtor! She staged and sold my home very quickly. She is extremely knowledgeable, very responsive, super friendly and confident. I would highly recommend her and only use her going forward for any realty needs! Her negotiation skills are way above par. I was very indecisive and ready to quickly accept an offer — she was confident in her decisions and sold my house for more than I thought possible. I also love the way she came in and staged my house — it looked amazing!”

Garden City Middle School students Anjali Motwani and Tanya Oza visited the Kennedy Space Center in Florida earlier this month after their experiment studying the effects of microgravity on salvia hispanica seeds was selected to be sent into space as part of the Student Spaceflight Experiment Program. Anjali and Tanya watched as their experiment was launched on a rocket, and even saw each part of the rocket separate as it made its ascent. Congratulations to both of them!

The Central section is geographically defined to include residents west from Franklin Avenue and east from Rockaway Avenue and extends north to south in accordance with the village boundaries.

Visitors are taken step-by-step through a working fire, from alarm activation and emergency call to the “knocking down” of flames at the scene. The Museum’s exhibits also trace the evolution of fire service equipment, gear and apparatus. See real horse drawn fire engines, a SIlsby steamer and even “drive” a 1934 Mack fire engine.

The Friends of the Garden City Public Library, established in 1952, was instrumental in the founding of our library. Its role is to support and further the library’s mission by funding services and resources not provided by tax dollars and raising awareness of the library as a vital community center.
Members of the Friends are volunteers who serve without compensation. Monies are raised primarily through an annual appeal letter, daily sales of donated books in a Friends area near the circulation desk, two full-day book sales each year, and occasional smaller book sales and auctions.
With the help of the Library Director and librarians, patron-friendly opportunities are explored. Currently the Friends fund programs for children, young adults, and adults: lectures, story times and craft activities, science classes, movie programs. Popular Museum passes, which waive entrance fees, include MoMA, the LI Children’s Museum, Old Westbury Gardens, the Intrepid Museum, the Nassau County Museum of Art, the Cradle of Aviation, the Empire Pass and others.
For the year 2023–2024, the Friends pledged over $60,000 to the library for these programs, museum passes, movie programs, furniture, and so much more.
Without the financial support of the community, the Friends could not continue its work. We must look to YOU to support our work…
• Become a member through your donation.
• Shop at our Book Sale area where shelves abound with gently used donated books for every age group at giveaway prices.
• Support our Book Sales, auctions, bake sales which are advertised throughout the year.
• Become a volunteer. Continued on page 86

The Garden City Public Library Trustees, Administration and staff are committed to the Library’s mission to connect people with information. The Library offers programs and services, encouraging a love of reading and satisfying the thirst for knowledge. Library staff carefully chooses materials from patron requests and recommendations, professional sources and peer-reviewed journals, to build curated collections of print, audio-visual media, digital information and streaming content. These collections provide reading, research and entertainment for Children, Teens and Adults. There are a vast array of books and magazines to read, music or audiobooks to listen to, movies and television programs to watch, online courses to study, and research databases, reference books and museum passes to bring worlds of knowledge home to
Garden City residents.
The Library worked with the Village to prepare and undertake several new capital projects. A major roof-replacement project included restoration of the masonry around the building, removal of the previous roof and asbestos abatement. The Library’s HVAC replacement project kicked off shortly thereafter. In Sept 2023, crews from the Recreation and Parks Department cleaned up landscaping around the building and grounds. Much of the vegetation was overgrown or in poor condition, as well as blocking Library windows and infringing on sidewalks. This landscaping, along with plans for planters and benches, new exterior lighting, automatic doors and security updates, were all part of the Library’s exterior improvements project. In August new automatic doors and security devic-
es were installed in the Library’s entryway. The Library will have new carpet installed on the first and second level in November 2024.
The Children’s Department offers: movement and music, family programs, story times, food decorating programs, STEAM programs for kids, and two Summer Reading Clubs (one for preschool and one for grades K–5). Holiday family events, including making Gingerbread houses, and a Halloween Parade.
The Children’s and Young Adult Departments jointly host Tween activities such as Lego Club, games, crafts, and more. The Young Adult Department provides teens volunteer opportunities through the Teen Advisory Board and
opportunities to earn Community Service hours through different activities and programs. Also offered are a Summer Reading Club, workshops for babysitting, practice college entrance tests and college prep, crafts, STEM programs, movies, game nights, holiday events and many other activities.
The Adult Department offers many programs such as art, film and history lectures, cooking, crafts, yoga, concerts and music programs, Summer Reading Club and book discussions. Some information program topics include: property taxes, home maintenance, defensive driving,

For over 90 years, The Men’s Association (TMA) has been at the forefront supporting the athletic programs for the Garden City High School. Over the last 10 years, we have expanded beyond sports and this has led us to a more diverse sponsorship of athletic and student programs at the high school level. After careful consideration with our current board and incoming board of directors, we have decided to change our organization’s name to the Garden City Booster Club.
This decision reflects our commitment to better align our brand with our mission and vision for the future. The new name encapsulates our values and goals more effectively and will help us enhance our outreach efforts within the GC Trojan community.
Please note that while our name is changing, our dedication to our cause remains the same. We will continue our efforts supporting all athletic and high school programs to better enhance the experience for student athletes and student programs alike.
As of September 1st, the current co-presidents, Rob Cappello and Jimmy Connolly, will be welcoming the new board members:
President: Drew Carey, Vice President: Adam Kohart, and Treasurer: Matt Prybylski.
Over the last several weeks, we have begun to implement the new name across all our communications channels, including our new website, www.gardencityboosterclub.org, social media platforms, and official correspondence. You can join us by visiting our new website or by scanning the QR code below as well. Checks can also be mailed to: Garden City Booster Club, PO Box 7877, Garden City, NY 11530.
We are excited to launch our new banner program as well. The banners will proudly display your support in Warren King Stadium along the fence between the two athletic fields and under the GCBC donated American flags displayed on game day.
We greatly value your support and look forward to continuing our partnership under our new name.

The GCHS is dedicated to preserving the historic character and unique ambiance of our Village and raising awareness, understanding and appreciation of its history, through community outreach, involvement and education. The 1872 original “Apostle House” Museum is a resource for the entire community.
Garden City has the largest cluster of historic structures of any community on Long Island. The Historical Society has been an outspoken and active participant in the campaign to save, and repurpose for community use, St. Paul’s School, a masterpiece of High Victorian Gothic architecture on the National Register of Historic Places and built by Cornelia Clinch Stewart in memory of Garden City founder, Alexander Turney Stewart.
After the razing of the third Garden City Hotel, which had been designed by McKim, Mead & White and a destination for explorers, politicians, community leaders and visitors from around the world, residents became outraged that local buildings were being torn down. This led to the formation of The Garden City Historical Society in 1975.
The Society actively fundraises and applies for grants to continue to restore its Museum building, which is listed on the National Register.

To assist the physically disabled navigate the barriers in and around the Village of Garden City. We have coordinated the needs of our residents to improve playgrounds, access to the GC Pool, bathrooms at GC High School and handicapped parking on 7th Street.
In a recent case, a resident had trouble getting assistance filling up her car when her regular gas station became self serve only. The MIC committee recommended an app fuelService.org where a consumer can call and get an appointment with a local gas station. Calling ahead to smaller local gas stations for assistance has also proven successful.
The MIC appreciates all the businesses and residents who run to assist us when we struggle with doors or carrying packages. We are very fortunate to live in this caring community. St. Joseph’s Respect Life Ministry was founded in 1973 following the Supreme Court decisions that struck down laws throughout our nation that protected the lives of preborn children. Over the past 49 years, St. Joseph parishioners and friends have participated in many projects and programs including special Masses, prayer vigils and novenas, baby showers and support to maternity homes for expectant mothers. We have hosted noted speakers and participated in many Marches for Life in Washington, D.C. – all in an effort to restore legal protection to the babies and to defend the sanctity of God’s gift of human life from conception to natural passing. Over the course of a calendar year, St. Joseph Respect Life Ministry provides parishioners and Garden City residents with many opportunities to be part of this wonderful culture of life ministry.
