ADULT LEARNING SEPTEMBER 2018 - FEBRUARY 2019

WELCOME Welcome to Adult Learning at Little Angel Theatre. Throughout the year we offer a range of training for professionals at different levels of career development. Some courses require existing puppetry skills, some are open to beginners and those working in associated creative industries, for example theatre, animation and film. Our training opportunities can also be useful for teachers, workshop leaders, support workers and therapists. This season we’re especially excited for our international guests - Le Théâtre de la Pire Espèce (Quebec) and Margarita Blush (USA). We hope you find something to interest you and look forward to seeing you at Little Angel soon.

MAKING YOURSELF HEARD

MICRO CINEMA THEATRE

Voice training and presentation workshop for women with Clare Kissane

Video camera and visual theatre workshop with Gavin Glover

Whether chairing a meeting, presenting to an audience, pitching ideas or networking in a social gathering, sometimes women find it difficult to make themselves heard. Anxiety and nerves can cause tension in the larynx, creating a change in pitch.

A three day practical and very collaborative workshop with leading puppeteer Gavin Glover. Suitable for all theatre practitioners and technophobes who would like to explore and incorporate live video with performance on stage.

This workshop, led by specialist voice coach Clare Kissane, will give you a set of tools which will help you to find and free your natural voice, giving it resonance, clarity and confidence. Wed 10 October 10am-5pm £50/40 concessions. Location: Studios

By using tiny video cameras we can explore everyday objects and textures and even use the human body to discover a new type of micro cinema.

Sun 14 - Tues 16 October 10am-6pm £195/£180 concessions. Location: Studios

TEACHING LIGHT AND SHADOW USING SHADOW PUPPETS A CPD session for teachers, EYFS practitioners and educators

AN INTRODUCTION TO PUPPETRY PERFORMANCE With Oliver Smart, Folded Feather

CONTEMPORARY PUPPETRY PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES With Margarita Blush

PUPPET CONSTRUCTION COURSE DOG PUPPET With Peter O'Rourke

This workshop is suitable for anyone who works with children or young people and wants to learn how to make a variety of shadow puppets.

This crash course for total beginners assists you in discovering the essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive with movement and emotion. The session will include learning about puppet life, breath and focus.

Contemporary Puppetry is a practical class that explores techniques for the animation of 2-3 person puppets (aka Bunraku).

An entertaining and comprehensive introduction to the art of the puppeteer.

A perfect course for puppeteers and theatre performers who want to get their heads around working as a team on one puppet.

During this week-long course students will learn how to build a simple, strong dog puppet mechanism, copying from a prototype. Designed for a single operator with rods from above, the prototype will be a smaller than lifesize dog, with some internal movement in the body and neck, a nodding head and a moving mouth.

Sat 3 & Sun 4 November 10am - 5pm £120/95 concessions Location: Studios

Sat 10 & Sun 11 November 10am-5pm £120/£95 concessions Location: Studios

Shadow theatre can be used across the curriculum to teach both science and art with beautiful outcomes. Have fun making puppets and leave fully armed with teaching materials to support the curriculum.

Thurs 18 October 4.15pm - 6.30pm £35/25 concessions Location: Studios

Participants will construct a very simple paper puppet in order to engage in movement explorations.

This course is suitable for beginners as well as those with more experience. Mon 26 - Fri 30 November 10am - 6pm £400/£350 concessions Location: Theatre Workshop

MARIONETTE CARVING COURSE With John Roberts, PuppetCraft Theatre Learn marionette carving from this master puppeteer. You will design your own puppet and then cut out, carve, joint and assemble it. If there is time, you will make a control and string the puppet. You could aim to make a simple complete puppet (which is a lot to do within the week) or you can work at a more leisurely pace and do the finishing touches at a later date. Mon 28 January - Sat 2 February 2019 10am - 6pm £480/£430 concessions Location: Theatre Workshop

PUPPET CONSTRUCTION COURSE TABLE TOP PUPPETS With Peter O'Rourke Working with templates taken from a specially designed prototype, students will be taken stepby-step through the process of making their own table top puppet. Stress will be given to teaching the principles behind building good movement, controllability and durability into this type of figure.

Mon 25 February - Fri 1 March 2019 10am - 6pm £400/£350 concessions Location: Theatre Workshop

OBJECT THEATRE WORKSHOP Led by Le Théâtre de la Pire Espèce Francis Monty and Olivier Ducas lead this three day workshop exploring different aspects of creating with objects: the various ways of manipulating them and the particular dramaturgy used for them. You will work on short pieces that will be presented on the last day of the workshop. Tues 26 - Thurs 28 February 2019 10.30am - 4.30pm (Presentation during Puppet Space, 7-9.30pm Thurs 28 February) £195/£180 concessions Location: Studios

LIP SYNC: MAKING A MOVING MOUTH PUPPET With Tinka Slavicek

DESIGNING AND MAKING A 'THEATRE FOR ONE' With Judith Hope

Create a moving mouth (Muppet style) puppet that can talk, sing, chew, or even swallow things!

Work with Judith to create your own mini puppet theatre show in a box, complete with a peephole and soundtrack for your audience of one person at a time to experience a special performance for their eyes only.

Puppet making techniques will include pattern making, foam rubber modelling (for the puppet head) and covering the head and body parts with stretchy fabrics by gluing and sewing. In the final week of the course we will look at manipulation, finding the puppet’s voice and making the talking look natural.

Create a cast of miniature puppets and changing sets and backdrops. Storytelling, presentation, staging and soundtrack guidance will all be covered in this exciting and unique course.
