Welcome back! We’re welcoming in the new year with a fun favourite and an exciting new production. Julia Donaldson’s The Flying Bath is an adventure story about a group of friends with an environmental slant, helping younger pupils understand the importance of water and how it’s use can impact our world. Our new co-production, The Instrumentals, is a joyous musical celebration of Black Caribbean heritage and explores the African diaspora communities in London in a magical world where instruments come to life! As the warmer weather returns, so do two fantastic shows, Wow! Said the Owl brings the beautiful Tim Hopgood picture book to life, and prepare to be thrilled by Neil Gaiman’s The Wolves in the Walls, where reality is questioned and fears are faced. Books are also the focus of our new workshops, giving pupils the opportunity to have fun with texts and puppets and even explore Shakespeare! Bring any book you are studying to life or link art with Science via one of our women in STEM workshops. Read on to find out about all of this and much more!

TICKETS FOR SHOWS

To book a show, please visit our For Schools page on the website here and complete our enquiry form. The box office will then be in touch to proceed with your booking.

• You may make a provisional reservation, and once the reservation is confirmed we will invoice for payment.

• Tickets for schools groups are £6.50 per person (this price is available in Islington term times before 3pm on weekdays only)

• Additional free adult tickets are available if children need one-to-one adult supervision.

SEATING AND ACCESS

• Seating in the Theatre is on benches and the capacity per show is approximately 100 (depending on ratio of adults to children)

• The Studios is set up differently for each show, so the seating capacity varies - Box Office will advise when you enquire.

• Let us know your access requirements - wheelchair spaces must be booked in advance

The Flying Bath

When everyone has left the house in the morning, the bath toys spring into action and head off on exciting adventures in their magical flying bath! From giving a muddy piglet a shower to putting out a fire for a frightened baboon, they have water at the ready for any emergency – as long as they’re home for the children’s bath time at the end of the day.

Wolves in the Walls

When Lucy hears noises from behind the walls, she tries to warn her family that there are wolves lurking inside their house. But her family don’t listen. Then one day, the wolves come out, evicting Lucy and her family to live at the bottom of the garden. But it’s not all over. Lucy gathers her courage, as her battle against the wolves is only just beginning.

Wow! said the Owl

Explore the wonderful world of colours with a curious little owl, who is determined to stay awake and see what daylight brings.

The Nosy Little Troll

A Garlic Theatre production

Deep in the heart of the Norwegian Forest live the trolls – big trolls, tiny trolls and a Nosy Little Troll who has an amazingly sensitive nose…

One day there is a mumbling and a rumbling from the trolls. What is that stinky smell wafting through the trees? The Nosy Little Troll sets off to follow her nose on a quest to solve the mysterious pong. Will she be brave enough to cross the scary old stone bridge and succeed in sniffing out the culprit?

Join us for this funny Scandinavian story starring a tasty brown cheese song, a lost goat and a bushy old troll with green fingers. Garlic Theatre hold their young audience spellbound with wonderfully crafted troll puppets, live music and lots of joining in.

Garlic Theatre transport us to Norway in this joyous tale about a curious troll with a very sensitive nose who sets out to solve a mystery.

WORLD BOOK DAY

SCHOOL WORKSHOPS NEW THIS TERM SHAKESPEARE

Primary

Want an exciting way to get your students exploring stories this World Book Day? Ask them to come to school in costume and practice storytelling with Little Angel Theatre and our collection of props and puppets. This workshop can be catered to your current English curriculum.

Early Years

Meet Lennon the Librarian and the book worms, who will help you to bring alive your favourite books right before your eyes. Our experienced Little Angel Team will help to transform your space into the imaginary world of the books you read through music, storytelling and sensory play.

This hour-long workshop can be catered to your current English curriculum and is recommended for nurseries and reception. This is a supplementary session based on the book you are reading in class.

‘Be not afeared; the isle is full of noises…’

Primary

An introduction to Shakespeare through sock puppet poets. This funfilled workshop begins with the students watching Little Angel Theatre’s short film, ‘The Tempest’, adapted by Hannah Khalil. Each student then gets to craft their own puppet poet, and is taught how to perform with it, exploring lip sync and rhythm.

Early Years

An introduction to Shakespeare through sensory play. Join Little Angel Theatre on a fun-filled journey through ‘The Tempest’. With the assistance of Little Angel’s experienced team you’ll explore Caliban’s island, float away with Ariel, and make a storm with Prospero. An inclusive, interactive approach to Shakespeare’s text, in a story told through music, slow storytelling and sensory play.

WOMEN IN STEM

Primary

Learn how to engineer a puppet with Little Angel Theatre. After a demonstration of the engineering behind our professional puppets, we teach your students how to design and craft their own using a variety of accessible materials. This exciting and educational workshop will inspire students to explore STEM subjects in the future.

Early Years

Join Eli the Engineer on her exploration into our wonderful world of wonderful things. In this session your students will become Story Engineers, who will assist Eli on her ‘choose your own adventure’ style story. Experiment with gravity, balance, friction and temperature with Eli and help her to make decisions as she goes on her adventures in her wonderful world.

NEW for 2022/23 we have show related workshops, aligning with our season. These are available for bookings at our Studios, at your school/venue, or as a DIY package for you to run independently.

DIGITAL RESOURCES

Each package contains: WATCH – a digital puppet show. MAKE – workshop videos and instructions for making your own puppets, set and stories. Plus resources to support cross curricular learning and ideas for delivering a puppetry project in school. SHARE – ideas for how to share and celebrate your work.

Packages are available online from anywhere in the world. We will give you a link to a folder of videos and PDFs you can print and use in class – easy!

Tam’s Gift – A story about finding what makes us special

Best suited to KS1 & lower KS2, Years 1 – 4

Tam is a little monster who doesn’t think they are special. All the other monsters seem to be good at something but Tam is struggling to find a talent of their own.

Learn how to make your own monster puppet, then learn how to use your puppet to tell stories and explore feelings that might be hard to face in real life.

This package also contains resources around Tam’s song including lyrics & recordings so you can sing along!

Scoop’s Space Stories – Exploring the environment & recycling

Best suited to KS1 & KS2, Years 1 – 6

Meet Scoop, who loves to find old things and give them new life, and Bertie who is made from plastic bottles and can’t wait to be recycled! Then head to Mr Gobble’s Garden, where Scoop introduces us to more friends made from objects that might otherwise be thrown away. Along the way we’ll also learn some lessons about growing plants and friendship.

There are videos showing you how to make & use puppets from junk, and activities on the environment & recycling.

Day and Night –Exploring shadows, light and poetry through puppetry

Best suited to KS2, Years 3 – 6

Start by watching a beautiful shadow puppet version of David Windle’s poem ‘Day and Night’. Then meet the filmmaker, followed by a video workshop showing you how to make your own translucent shadow puppets. We also include teacher notes with information and ideas for cross-curricular lessons linked to the themes, an author study and top tips for writing poetry.

Bertie

Bertie... is an environmental entertainment and education series, featuring 7 episodes, for children aged 3 to 8 on LAT’s YouTube Channel.

Lilly meets a different animal in a different place in the world in each episode, and children will learn about different environmental issues and consider how they can take their own steps to help combat climate change.

Inset and CPD

Puppetry is an excellent tool for enlivening the curriculum in a fun and creative way. We run targeted in-house training sessions each term, or you can book us to come to your school or venue and work with your staff for an INSET, staff meeting or training day.

Sensory Explorations:

Using an Object-Centred approach to Sensory Play as a teaching and learning tool.

This workshop will explore how you can use objects and sensory play within your teaching. You will learn how sensory play and object-centred work can be incorporated into your teaching, and how sensory play benefits language level and confidence. In the session, you will get to experiment and explore the benefits of engaging in this form of work yourself, and how best it could be utilised in your practice to develop an inclusive classroom space.

All workshops are led by professional puppeteers and follow our Watch, Make, Share ethos; following a demonstration, students craft a puppet and are then encouraged to share and evaluate their creations. Well planned and organised, our puppetry workshops are a fun and creative way to explore the curriculum, and provide a high quality learning experience for all students.

Whether you would like to work with us for one day, a whole academic year or anything in between we can provide a variety of bespoke puppetry workshops and residencies, just ask!

Little Angel Theatre cares for a large archive of puppets, from Table Top to marionettes.

The archive has been built up over many years of Little Angel Theatre shows, as well as receiving generous donations from the public.
