The last few months have been very busy at Little Angel Theatre. We were thrilled to win an Offie for Zerrafa Girraffa, our co-production with Omnibus Theatre, and are hugely proud to have won a Hoop award, for Best Live Performance & Family Theatre. This season we are excited to bring to life another Julia Donaldson classic – The Everywhere Bear, in a co-production with Polka Theatre and Royal & Derngate. This follows the enormous success of The Singing Mermaid last season, who will return for a limited time only in January, before taking her circus family on a UK-wide tour. The Adventures of Curious Ganz will also be bursting onto our stage in October – an exciting production for anyone with an enquiring mind, looking to explore life’s big questions. We are getting nostalgic for our Christmas season, welcoming back our highly acclaimed production of Angelo, based on the book by Quentin Blake. We also continue our new interactive strand of work at our studios space with Finding Santa, where the audience decides how the story unfolds. And let’s not forget that Owly will also be flying in this Christmas, continuing her adventures, but this time at night. WOW! It’s Night-time is a glorious, gentle adventure for our younger audience members. We are excited to be offering a new strand of membership to show our appreciation to our regular audience members – this includes early booking and discounts on show tickets. We have also streamlined our philanthropic patron schemes – for every £2 we receive from box office income we need to earn another £1 to continue our vital community work. Turn to the centre spread to see how you can support us. Our learning programmes are as dynamic and broad as ever, with holiday classes and after school clubs as well as more advanced adult learning opportunities. Don’t forget us when you are planning your office away day or Christmas events – we offer a unique puppetry themed team building experience and our spaces are available for evening hire. And finally, put the date in your diaries for our annual party and open house event on the 9 September.

THE ADVENTURES OF CURIOUS GANZ 5–21 OCTOBER 2018

A Little Angel Theatre & Silent Tide co-production A story of science and alchemy A scientist is born! From the very beginning our hero Ganz is Curious. He investigates everything. From the caterpillar to the stars Ganz wants to observe and understand it all – is the earth flat or round? Does the sun travel around the earth or earth around sun? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? How does electricity travel? No stone is left unturned. His investigations and inventions bring him to the attention of Queen Lizzy the First, a fellow adventurer, if only she could escape her skirts… The Adventures of Curious Ganz is a fictitious story based on the true life of 16th century copper smelter Joachim Ganz. It is a celebration of the new, the strange, the brave and the curious! Told through design, table-top puppetry, music and a few words, all wildly based on the principles of alchemy.

ANGELO

22 NOVEMBER – 30 DECEMBER 2018 Written and Illustrated by Quentin Blake A Little Angel Theatre production Angelo and his family travel round the country playing music, singing songs and performing marvellous balancing tricks: Angelo can even dance on a rope! So when he meets Angelina, who is sad and lonely and trapped in her mean uncle’s house, Angelo knows just how to help... Designed by Lyndie Wright and directed by Sarah Wright, this magical production is a Little Angel classic. First performed to packed audiences in 1974, Angelo has remained one of the company’s most popular productions. Quentin Blake’s witty and energetic drawings are delightfully interpreted as table-top puppets manipulated by some of the UK’s finest puppeteers.

One day, the singing mermaid is tempted away from all of her sea creature friends and her peaceful home at Silversands to join a travelling circus. The audiences love to hear her sing, but the poor mermaid was tricked! Instead of the swimming pool she was promised, she is kept in a small tank by the wicked circus master Sam Sly, and she soon longs to return to the freedom of the sea. Will she ever escape? And who will help her along the way? Through beautiful puppetry and performance, and with music by Barb Jungr (We’re Going On A Bear Hunt), this show brings Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks’s enormously popular story, The Singing Mermaid, to life.

One snowy morning Mimi discovers something extraordinary – a baby dragon sleeping in her woodshed! The little creature is lost and frightened but how did he get there and what if his mother comes looking for him? Mimi must be extremely brave if she is going to help the little dragon find his way home.

SPACE HIRE

COMMUNITY

Drawing on our extensive puppetry training programmes, we offer tailor-made, puppetry focused courses for business. Participants will discover the essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive, improving communication, team building and getting to know your colleagues in a whole new way. Delivered over half or full days; hosted at the theatre or brought to your door, this is something a bit different for your next team building session or away day. Let Little Angel inject a bit of puppetry magic to your office!

Our original theatre on Dagmar Passage can accommodate 85 people and is the perfect venue for intimate events including performances, presentations and book signings. We also have a further three studio spaces available for hire, with capacities ranging from 33 to 100. Please get in touch for information on availability, prices or to arrange a viewing. Please email info@littleangeltheatre.com or call 020 7359 8581 to speak to a member of the team for more details on any of the above.
