Welcome to adult learning at Little Angel Theatre. Throughout the year we offer a range of training for professionals at different levels in their career development. While several courses require existing puppetry skills, many are open to beginners and those working in associated creative industries, for example theatre, animation and film. Our training opportunities are useful for teachers, workshop leaders, support workers and therapists too, providing the basis for creative ideas and practical hands-on skills. Make sure you take a peek backstage at our new event, London’s Hidden Gem, and learn all about our theatre’s rich history. SPECIAL EVENT LONDON’S HIDDEN GEM

With Ronnie Le Drew Uncover the origins of Little Angel Theatre, narrated and brought lovingly to life by expert puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew. Then discover the backstage and workshop areas with a glass of wine before heading into the night, keeping a little bit of that magic just for yourself. Tuesday 14 March, 7pm £20, includes a glass of wine or soft drink

SHORT COURSES AN INTRODUCTION TO PUPPETRY PERFORMANCE With Oliver Smart, Folded Feather This crash course for total beginners assists you in discovering the

essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive with movement and emotion. The session will include learning about puppet life, breath and focus. An entertaining and comprehensive introduction to the art of the puppeteer and a springboard to the world of professional development and training at Little Angel Theatre. Absolute beginners welcome! Sunday 19 March, 10am–5pm £85 / £55 concessions

BEHIND CLOSED DOORS

With Mike Shepherd Mike Shepherd — founder, actor, director and teacher — delivers a “Kneehigh Lowdown”, a practical workshop exploring the ways Kneehigh work. Mike directed the acclaimed A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings, co-production with Little Angel Theatre, revived as part of the recent Christmas season at Little Angel. Sunday 30 April, 10am–5pm £55 / £45 concessions

WORKSHOP FACILITATION COURSE

With Samantha Lane This course is designed for anyone interested in learning basic workshop facilitation skills. You will learn techniques for working with children and young people, how to plan and structure a workshop, how to incorporate evaluation into your session, and how to apply your puppetry/ drama/making skills to an educational context. Tuesday 2–Friday 5 May, 10am–5pm, £320/£280 concessions for 4 days

INSET FOR TEACHERS, THERAPISTS AND EARLY YEARS PRACTITIONERS: LEARN TO MAKE A STORY BOX THEATRE

With Judith Hope This miniature theatre ‘in a box’ is a tool for sharing stories with your class or group in an exciting visual way. It’s a fun resource to have in your classroom and

allows children to play and explore with characters and story. You will learn the skills and method for the design, along with tips for using your theatre in an educational setting from our experienced facilitator. Thursday 11 May, 4.15–6.30pm, £35/£25 concessions

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WITH OBJECTS AND PUPPETS

With Oliver Smart This intensive workshop for puppeteers and puppetry directors offers a practical exploration in demystifying puppetry, giving you useful tools and exercises to use in the devising and directing process. You will build on your existing knowledge and experience and explore puppetry performance. This course is for those with some training or experience in puppetry. Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 May, 10am–5pm daily £110/£95 concessions for 2 days


SHADOW AND LIGHT

With Steve Tiplady There is more to shadows than shadow puppets. Come and explore the world of shadows through a variety of different techniques and media, using overhead projectors, L.E.Ds and special shadow lights. A rare opportunity to work with this master shadow maker and Little Angel Theatre Associate Artist. BOOK EARLY as this course is very popular. Saturday 3 & Sunday 4 June, 10am–5pm daily £110/£95 concessions for 2 days

NEW PUPPET CONSTRUCTION COURSE: TABLE TOP PUPPETS

With Peter O’Rourke Working with templates taken from a specially designed prototype, students will be taken step by step through the process of making their own table top puppet. As with Peter’s previous courses: stress will be given to teaching

the principles behind building good movement, controllability and durability into this type of figure. Monday 5–Friday 9 June, 10am–6pm daily, in the Little Angel Theatre Workshop, £400/£350 concessions for 5 days

WRITING FOR PUPPETRY

With Rachel Warr An evening exploring the creative process of making theatre with puppetry. This event is for puppetry practitioners and writers or dramaturges. There will be an opportunity to engage in some practical work and to network with other professionals from the field of puppetry, visual theatre, writing and dramaturgy. Monday June 26, 7–10pm £15

Always popular, our adult term-long courses offer a deeper connection to the art form and an opportunity to develop larger scale projects.

All are welcome to this Little Angel Theatre networking event, produced in association with the Puppetry Development Consortium. It’s free to attend however you need to book a space so we can monitor numbers. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided. Please feel free to bring additional refreshments of your choice.
