Puppetry is an exciting and engaging way to explore and enhance the curriculum. I am thrilled to share our new brochure, created especially for teachers and educators. We hope it will be a user friendly way of putting everything we have to offer in one place. As well as our new season of shows, including our beautiful adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s short story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, we have a wealth of inspiring and creative workshops and activities that we can provide to support your pupils’ learning and bring the curriculum to life. Puppetry can support your teaching in English, Topic, History, Art and Design, Design and Technology and even Science. Read on to find out more and we hope to see you soon. A new play by Dan Rebellato Presented by Little Angel Theatre & Goblin Emily’s adventures will spark the imagination of young writers. What would you do and where would you go if you could fly? How would you feel about leaving your home and your family and what would you see on your journey? An ideal starting point for descriptive writing as well as an opportunity to discuss feelings around family relationships.

Curriculum links PSHE Emotional Wellbeing Writing Composition Emily wakes up one bright autumn morning to find that her feet can’t touch the ground, and no one can understand why. To everyone’s surprise Emily keeps rising higher and higher. From sleeping upside-down on her ceiling and flying above her school playground, to soaring over a starry-skied London, Emily’s adventure is just beginning.

Presented by Little Angel Theatre & Goblin The chance to take your pupils on the trip of a lifetime exploring different environments, including mountains, beaches and cities. Experience the landscapes, weather and variety of the wonders of the planet we live in and even explore the solar system! Perfect for topics around settings, weather and environments.

Introduce your pupils to the works of a Nobel Prize winning author and see the words on the page come to life through puppetry. The child has a fever and is hotter than a fish on a spit, the dog chases its tail, Mother dreams of a new broom and Father gazes out to sea. Then the sky gets frisky, the sea rears up and, in a bolt of lightning, a very old man with enormous wings crashes to earth in a flurry of feathers. Nothing will ever be the same again!

8 DECEMBER 2016– 29 JANUARY 2017 Presented by Little Angel Theatre This early years favourite is a lovely and touching story about a parent and their love for their child by much loved children’s author Emma Dodd. A chance to explore a variety of settings and environments with baby penguin as well as the chance to look at words that describe her experiences and feelings.

EYFS AND KS1 Curriculum links Topic and English describing environments, landscapes & weather PHSE relationships The world is a very big place, especially for a tiny baby penguin who is just finding her feet. The shimmering stars and glistening snow spin around our little hero, while the mountains tower high and the wind rushes to and fro. And although baby penguin may be small, her family know she’s the biggest thing of all.

Little does she know how absolutely ENORMOUS her turnip will grow! To plant and harvest the turnip, Rosie will need plenty of help from the audience, her animal friends and one small but very important gnome…


IN SCHOOL WORKSHOPS Puppetry is an exciting way to explore the curriculum in a creative and imaginative way. We can come into your school and deliver a puppetry workshop.

TABLE TOP PUPPETS

These upright people puppets are extremely versatile and can be used to link with English and storytelling, a historical period or around a topic of your choice, just ask! Curriculum links English (exploring characters or story), History (making puppets from a certain historical period), Topic (making puppets themed around your topic), R.E. (making puppets to tell a religious story), Art and Design, Design and Technology.

SHADOW PUPPETS

Our shadow puppet making workshops allow children to not only learn a new puppet making skill but also explore some science as they learn about shadow and light as well as creating exciting fantasy worlds and characters. Curriculum links English (exploring settings and story), Topic (making puppets themed around your topic), Science (exploring shadow and light), Art and Design, Design and Technology.

Time Needed It takes a full day for pupils to make these puppets so we would work with the class for the whole day.

Time Needed We can work with one class for a whole day to make puppets and perform with them. For larger schools we also run half day sessions.

Age This puppet is most suitable for Years 1–6.

Age Recommended for Years 3-6 but will consider Year 2.

SEASIDE AND BIRD PUPPETS!

Choose from crabs or seagulls to bring the seaside to your classroom. Our cute crab puppets can be decorated to make a colourful ‘cast’ of crabs and our seagulls’ wings flap as they take flight. (Note the seagull puppet workshop can be adapted to make a variety of birds either real or fictional.) Curriculum links Topic (making puppets themed around your seaside or animal topic), Science (animals and habitats), Art and Design, Design and Technology. Time Needed Half day (minimum booking one day working with 2 classes) Age Reception–Year 2 Cost £380+VAT per day (2 classes). For 3 form entry schools we can offer 1.5 days (half a day per class) for £600+VAT

MEET THE PUPPETS

A crash course in puppetry performing and the art of becoming a puppeteer for total beginners. We teach the skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive with movement and emotion. An introduction to the art of being a puppeteer.

Meet some of our puppets, learn about how they work, what they are made from and how we make them: Prices start from £80 + VAT, minimum time required 1 hour (can include a tour of the theatre if available).

Make a simple puppet linked to our current show, either as part of a visit to the theatre or as a stand-alone workshop. Prices start from £300 +VAT, minimum time required 2 hours.

AN INTRODUCTION TO PUPPETRY PERFORMANCE

This training can be delivered either as one full day or a slightly condensed version as two separate 2 hour sessions. Suitable for young people and adults from Years 7–8 (age 12) onwards. £350 + VAT for one full day, £425 +VAT for 2 x two hour sessions, over 2 separate days.

INSET AND CPD We offer training sessions for teachers and educators. These sessions support ideas for both puppet making and performing activities that can be used in the classroom or educational setting.

We can deliver training in your school to teach puppet making ideas or to explore ways of using puppetry in your classrooms. This session will teach you a range of simple but impressive puppet makes that younger children will be able to access. Participants will learn how to make a range of animal puppets including a bear, a seagull and butterflies.

Learn the different techniques for making a variety of shadow puppets and explore how to use them with your pupils.

Learn how to make our versatile person puppet that can be linked to story characters or history topics.
