THEATRE
8 FEBRUARY– 22 APRIL 2018
Written by Julia Donaldson & illustrated by Lydia Monks A Little Angel Theatre and Royal & Derngate, Northampton co-production Did you ever go to Silversands On a sunny summer’s day? Then perhaps you saw the mermaid Who sang in the deep blue bay. One day, the singing mermaid is tempted away from all of her sea creature friends and her peaceful home at Silversands to join a travelling circus. The audiences love to hear her sing, but the poor mermaid was tricked! Instead of the swimming pool she was promised, she is kept in a small tank by the wicked circus master Sam Sly, and she soon longs to return to the freedom of the sea. Will she ever escape? And who will help her along the way? Through beautiful puppetry and performance, and with music by Barb Jungr (We’re Going On A Bear Hunt), Little Angel Theatre collaborate once again with Royal & Derngate (Moominsummer Madness, 2014), to bring Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks’s enormously popular story, The Singing Mermaid, to life. SLEEPING BEAUTY IN THE WOOD
THEATRE
8 JUNE– 29 JULY 2018
A Little Angel Theatre production ‘Witty, ingenious and romantic... a winner’ Time Out ‘Lucky people so ‘tis said are blessed with fortune whilst in bed.’ A long time ago, one disgruntled fairy cast a spell that sent the whole world into a spin… This adaptation of the story of Briar Rose by the Brothers Grimm conjures a dreamlike fantasy of palaces and forests, ogres and fairies, princes and babes. It tells the story of a King and Queen desperate for a child, and a fairy who grants their wish. But when the fairy is not invited to baby Rose’s christening, she casts a different kind of spell – on her 16th birthday, the young princess will prick her finger and everyone in the kingdom will fall asleep for 100 years. Only the arrival of a prince from the Far East brings hope of an awakening. This bold production spins puppets, projections, automata and live music to weave an irresistible magic.
