Welcome back! As school routines begin again, there’s no better time to come and see a show about a tradition we are all familiar with - the class take home toy. The Everywhere Bear opens our new season and is a must-see for all classes who have their own take home toy, or who have memories of one in the not-too-distant past. Based on the book by Julia Donaldson, this delightful show follows the adventures of Class One’s bear.
THEATRE
Other highlights include a trip to the circus with Angelo, a masterclass in puppetry. For younger children we are excited to announce a brand new production of WOW! It’s Night-time, the sequel to WOW! Said the Owl, both inspired by Tim Hopgood’s beautiful picture books. Finding Santa is a chance for pupils to get involved in the storytelling process and The Adventures of Curious Ganz will take pupils on a voyage of Elizabethan discovery. Don’t forget all of our wonderful workshops, including a teachers’ CPD session in October exploring teaching light and shadow through puppetry. Read on to find out more and we hope to see you soon. The familiar scenario in this production is a gateway to exploring friendship and loss, as well as the thrill of discovering new places. From the best-selling author of The Gruffalo, Julia Donaldson, this captivating and beautiful story springs to life with rhyme, original music and delightfully expressive puppets in this fun and exciting stage adaptation.

Running time: 50 minutes The Everywhere Bear has a wonderful time with the children in Class One, but one day he gets more than he bargained for when he falls unnoticed from a backpack and embarks on his own big adventure. He’s washed down a drain and whooshed out to sea, rescued by a fishing boat, loaded onto a lorry, carried off by a seagull… how will he ever make it back to Class One? THE ADVENTURES OF CURIOUS GANZ 8 - 16 OCT 2018 A story of science and alchemy A scientist is born! From the very beginning our hero Ganz is Curious. He investigates everything. From the caterpillar to the stars Ganz wants to observe and understand it all – is the earth flat or round? Does the sun travel around the earth or earth around sun? Which came first, the chicken or the egg? How does electricity travel? No stone is left unturned. His investigations and inventions bring him to the attention of Queen Lizzy the First, a fellow adventurer, if only she could escape her skirts…

The Adventures of Curious Ganz is a fictitious story based on the true life of 16th century copper smelter Joachim Ganz. It is a celebration of the new, the strange, the brave and the curious! Told through design, table top puppetry, music and a few words, all wildly based on the principles of alchemy.
FINDING SANTA Written by Sean Taylor
16 NOV - 20 DEC 2018 A festive treat for your class featuring magical puppetry. This innovative show allows the audience to get involved with how the story will develop and to decide what happens next – an ideal opportunity to explore story structure and narrative, as well as embarking on a Christmas adventure. Ever wondered how letters for Santa Claus get to the North Pole? What if something went wrong along the way? How do Santa’s elves make sure his mail is delivered on time?

Curriculum Links English: storytelling and story structure. Exploring stories set in imaginary worlds and alternative endings. RE: religious festivals and traditions. ANGELO Written and illustrated by Quentin Blake
22 NOV - 20 DEC 2018 Based on the book written and illustrated by Quentin Blake, this production showcases puppetry at its best and is a magical Christmas treat for your class. Angelo and his family travel round the country playing music, singing songs and performing marvellous balancing tricks: Angelo can even dance on a rope! So when he meets Angelina, who is sad and lonely and trapped in her mean uncle’s house, Angelo knows just how to help… The production uses a sophisticated ‘black box’ technique to magically create acrobatic tricks and amazing stunts.

Running time: 90 minutes (including an interval) Designed by Lyndie Wright and directed by Sarah Wright, this production is a Little Angel Theatre classic. First performed to packed audiences in 1974, Angelo has remained one of the company’s most popular productions. Quentin Blake’s witty and energetic drawings are delightfully interpreted as table-top puppets manipulated by some of the UK’s finest puppeteers. Meet the Puppets
These upright people puppets are extremely versatile and can be used to link with English and storytelling, a historical period or around a topic of your choice, just ask! We have a simple version suitable for Year 1 – Year 4 and more complicated models for upper KS2 and KS3. Curriculum links: English (exploring characters or story), History (making puppets from a certain historical period), Topic (making puppets themed around your topic), R.E. (making puppets to tell a religious story), Art and Design, Design and Technology. Time needed: It takes a full day for pupils to make these puppets so we would work with the class for the whole day. Age: This puppet is most suitable for Year 1 - Year 9 Cost: £390+VAT per class per day
Our shadow puppet making workshops allow children to learn a new puppet making skill, whilst exploring science as they learn about shadow and light. Curriculum links: English (exploring settings and story), Topic (making puppets themed around your topic), Science (exploring shadow and light), Art and Design, Design and Technology. Time needed: We can work with one class for a whole day. For larger schools we also run half day sessions. Age: We recommend these workshops for Years 3-6 but will consider Year two classes Cost: £390+VAT per day. We can work with one class for the whole day or two classes for half a day each. For three form entry schools we can offer 1.5 days (half a day per class) for £600+VAT
Meet some of our puppets, learn about how they work, what they are made from and how we make them. We can deliver this at school as part of an assembly or you can come to us (can include a tour of the theatre if you are visiting us, subject to availability). Prices start from £85 + VAT.
Meet the Puppets and Try Out Puppeteering Meet some of our puppets and learn about how they work, what they are made from and how we make them - then have a go yourselves. Prices start from £195 +VAT, minimum time required 1.5 hours. £350 +VAT for a full day working with up to three groups.
We can work in your setting to make a simple puppet linked to a current show or a topic/story of your choice (where suitable). For this age we recommend our team works with small groups in short sessions. Prices start from £250 +VAT depending on time/size of group.
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 Puppet Making Half Day Workshops We can work with two classes over the course of the day (half a day per class) to help your younger pupils make a puppet linked in with a story or topic you are studying, encouraging them to follow instructions and get creative! You might even want to book a workshop inspired by one of our shows. We have a variety of simple puppet designs that can be adapted to best suit the story or topic of your choice including spoon people, hand/ glove puppets and a variety of rod puppet sea creatures. Curriculum links: English (making story characters), Topic (making puppets themed around your topic), Art and Design, Design and Technology. Time needed: We can work with two classes in one day to make puppets, each class gets half a day. Age: We recommend these workshops for Reception - Year 2. Cost: £390+VAT per day. An Introduction to Puppetry Performance A crash course in puppetry performing and the art of becoming a puppeteer for total beginners. We teach the skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive with movement and emotion. A comprehensive introduction to performing puppetry. Time needed: This training can be delivered either as one full day with one group or a condensed version as separate sessions for multiple groups over the course of a day. Age: Young people and adults from Year 7/8 (age 12) onwards. Cost: £360 + VAT for one full day

Thurs 18 Oct 2018: Teaching Light and Shadow using Shadow Puppets This session will provide you with the knowledge you need to explore light and shadow using puppetry. You will learn how to make shadow puppets, using them to explain transparent, translucent and opaque properties. This is a great way to use cross curricular links to teach both science and art with beautiful outcomes. Shadow puppetry is also a fantastic opportunity to tell seasonal stories involving light such as the Ramayana, Bonfire Night and Christmas. 4.15pm – 6.30pm £35 (£25 Conc.)
