PROJECT: ‘The Chef’ Premium E-liquid (vapours) Elements: logo, label design, box design, bottle colouring, website and copyriting The Brief: Asked to create a ‘fun but premium’ brand for a range of natural e-liquid flavours. The client specifically didn’t want to lead with the flavour and ingredient content, as they were developing the brand simultaneously as the flavours which could change - or could be easily copied by a competitor. Still wanting them to be visually appearlling I had to take inspiration from what else the target market (18 - 30’s) might find appealing. In a market which is roughly 60/40 men to women with most vapour brands appearing to target men - I felt there was an opportunity to skew this brand slightly to the feminine side to capture the ‘niche’ part of the market, and to stand out. As the brand developed, I felt there was an opportunity to assign personalities to each ‘flavour’ to help get past pragmatic decision making and create an emotional appeal. The use of bright colours, in a market otherwsie very red, black and white will hopefully create a point of difference, where the use of the predominantly clear label and matte, tactile bottles help to create that premium feel.

After the five flavours were finalised, I provided names and pantone colours for the bottles. I tried to associate these with a personality or feeling, of the names put forward the client agreed with all but one Berry Shake was ultimately the client’s decision. One of the challenges was that three of the ‘flavours’ leant themselves to very silmiar colours, however i’m pleased with the end result and that there is enough differentiation between them.
