Rosenmeier House | Built in 1903

Little Falls was established in 1848 on the Mississippi River. The dam was built in 1890 and provided a power source for several lumber, flour, and paper mills along the river.

Walking or Driving for a Great Experience

Retail merchants sold everything from axes, zippers, bicycles, and etc. The largest retail establishment in the late 19th century was Burton’s Clothing and Shoe, founded by Barney Burton who arrived in Little Falls in 1886. If you visit the Modern Little Falls the historical walking and driving tour are a fabulous way to step back in time. The historic videos can be viewed at www.littlefallsmn.com under videos and podcasts. The town was home to many powerful people, such as Charles A. Lindbergh, Charles A. Weyerhaeuser, Drew Musser, Jessica Lange, Gayle Gillingham, Brian Kolbilka (2012 Noble Peace Prize recipient), and former MN Senator Gordon Rosenmeier and a few more sports legends.

Home of the Flying Aces! Season: Sept. - March Junior Hockey • mnflyingaces.com • 320.632.2857

You must tour Linden Hill Mansions (1898), and the Burton-Rosenmeier Home (1903), Cass Gilbert Train Depot (1900), and the St. Francis Convent (1890); which are all historic hot spots. Step back in time has new meaning. As the town has modern luxuries such as two beautiful Bed and Breakfast locations, retro Dining at A.T. the Black and White restaurant, or the local bakery Pete and Joys; which has polish pottery and a great location to step back in time and have an old fashioned fantastic experience.

Want the Up North feel and see our secrets we want to share, just up the road five miles is Camp Ripley the 2nd largest Army National Guard post in the United States. It is home to the Minnesota Military Museum, which has artifacts dating back to the Civil War with both indoor and outdoor exhibits and located on the Mississippi River. If you are headed up North from Little Falls Cabin Fever is the recommended place to have dinner, as it offers fine dining by candle light or Up North Dinner and a drink. The Visitors Bureau will help plan your adventure and tour the mansion for your unforgettable visit. - Kristina VonBerge

A.T. THE BLACK & WHITE WAS BUILT IN 1931 AND CALLED THE BLACK AND WHITE HAMBURGER SHOP AS A DINER IN THE STYLE OF WHITE CASTLE.

Tomas met Little Falls native Amanda while the two attended Le Cordon Bleu in Minneapolis. They graduated in 2002, married in 2004 and bought the A.T. The Black & White in 2006.

The knowledgeable and friendly serving staff are here to assist and offer you wine suggestions with your menu choice if you seek it.

TOURISTS CANNOT TALK ENOUGH ABOUT THE GREAT EXPERIENCE: RETRO AND FANTASTIC FOOD. YOU WANT TO TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR FOOD AND SHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

“WE ARE A FAMILY-OWNED RESTAURANT THAT SERVES FAMILIES THE FRESHEST FOOD AVAILABLE IN THE AREA WITH GREAT SERVICE AND CHANGE OUR MENU SEASONALLY TO SERVE THE FRESHEST PRODUCE OF THE SEASON.”

Tomas and Amanda also have a young son who, Tomas joked, isn’t quite ready to be put on the payroll in the family business. Make your visit to Little Falls a great experience and a memorable visit… just like your grandparents. P.S. - They would love to visit and share their story over lunch too!

Sleeps up to nine people in a giant tree house in the woods on the lake!

850 Sq Ft tree house 18 Ft off the ground

Over looking Rock Lake on fifty acres in central Minnesota, this exclusive hideaway is about two hours north west of the Twin Cities. The tree house is a refreshing break away from the ordinary. The tree house sits 18 feet off the ground on a ridge over looking Rock Lake. Its surrounded by our 50 acres and 500 acres of state land, we enjoy a lot of wild life, peace and quiet here. Throughout the land there are a lot of trails for walking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. In the summer you can enjoy paddle boating and kayaking. The tree house is built of almost all home sawed lumber. It has two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a kitchen, a sitting area in both the loft and the main level. It also has heating and air conditioning making it possible to rent year round. There is a wrap around porch on three sides and a deck out front, with a 6 person hot tub on it. To access the tree house you will walk over a thirty foot covered bridge that touches the ground on one side for easy access.

The legend of “fairy crosses” have come down through history from the first meeting of John Smith and Pocahontas, which states that the Indian Princess gave John Smith a good luck charm necklace made out of a “fairy cross”. It’s also known that President Theodore Roosevelt carried an amulet made from a “fairy cross”. The Staurolites, better known as “fairy stones” are found at Blanchard Dam. Take Hilton Road (approximately 8.6 miles) to 68th Street (take path at the Dead End road). These “Fairy” or “Lucky” stones are twinned staurolite crystals simulating the Roman, Maltese and St. Andrew’s crosses. They are as much as an inch in length and are of dark brown color.

Morrison County’s first school, District #1, has been placed and restored at the Morrison County Fair Grounds, Little Falls, as a symbol of the quality education received by so many area students in all rural schools. The first school district was organized in 1855, and a school was held that year in the old Mission building, with Miss Cunningham as teacher. A school house was erected near this spot in 1865, and a larger one, this school, ten years later.

RIPLEY ESKER An esker is a landform built of sand and gravel deposited by a melt water stream that flowed beneath a glacier.

38

This classic esker stands 3 to 18 meters above the surrounding plain, and is about 68 to 76 meters wide. . The Ripley esker was formed beneath a tongue-shaped lobe of ice called the Superior lobe, which flowed into this area from the northeast about 20,000 to 15,000 years ago.
