The Season of
NEW DISCOVERIES
God living among us, we greet you and welcome this time of beginnings with joy, excitement, anxiety, and a bit of hesitation. We thank you for the blessings of summer fun and rest; we thank you for giving us time together with our family and friends; and we thank you for the many things, known and unknown, that await us this year. We also come a bit nervous, concerned about the challenges that lie ahead, the potential stress and unknown mountains that we may be asked to climb. Bless us, God, and be with us. Amen.

The Season of
FRESH BEGINNINGS
It is so important that we help young people encounter Jesus, who is already here in our lives and in our hearts. We are called to have a relationship with him, who loves us without end. We are to follow his way of love each day. We are never alone because Jesus is always with us. We have a purpose. There is a plan for our lives. Jesus will show us the way. It is so important for us to share the love of Jesus Christ with the students in our schools. We help them hear the call of Jesus in their hearts and live in joy as his disciples.

The Season of
GIVING
There is a rhythm to life. The Genesis promise of breathing in and breathing out is brought to life in the way our Church celebrates the seasons of the year... and in the way we move through our days. As a Catholic school, we invite our school community to walk in a prayerful Lenten rhythm. The natural cadence of our day includes all the bells and classes and adjusted schedules of any school; however, we also build in moments of pause, moments of prayer, moments to notice the breathing in and breathing out of God’s Spirit.

RECEIVING
God, you make space for light, taking those burdens that fill us: the pain that pushes out joy; the guilt that pushes out innocence; the hurt that pushes out love; and you forgive them. You roll them away, creating space for light. Fill us with the space made by forgiveness, and help us to face the future with you and your love, resurrected. Amen.

SURRENDERING
Maker of the Seasons who circles the seasons with ease, teach me about Earth’s natural cycle of turning from one season to another. Remind me often of how she opens herself to the dying and rising rotations, the coming and the going of each of the four seasons. Open me to the teachings of the season of autumn. May my heart grow freer and my life more peaceful as I resonate with, and respond to, the many teachings this season offers me.

PARTICIPATION
One day children were brought to Jesus in the hope that he would lay his hands on them and pray over them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus intervened: “Leave the children alone, don’t prevent them from coming to me. God’s kingdom is made up of people like these”. After laying hands on them, he left. (Mark 10: 13 - 16)

The Season of
LETTING GO
Winter is the season of waiting. It requires great trust and a willingness to believe that this angst will not last forever. Even though all appears dead and void of movement, there is quiet growth taking place. During the darkness, gestation occurs. In the caves and hidden hollows of winter, baby bears are born. In the frozen air, branches with terminal buds secretly grow every day. In the unmoving soil, flower buds are strengthened for their future journey upward towards the sun. In the frozen human heart, the silent seeds of confidence are prepared for amazing new growth.

ORDINARY LIVING
God living among us, sometimes life is a maze of unknowns. There are often unexpected twists and turns, blocked pathways, speed bumps and U-turns. Sometimes the way seems plain, and at other times it seems uncertain. But whether the path is obvious or ambiguous, smooth or pot-holed, blocked or clear, we know that you are always there to see us through. Help us to remember that we need only ask for your directions and for your guidance as we move through the labyrinth of life. We ask this through your Son, our Guide, Jesus Christ. Amen.

CREATION
God of abundant harvest, help us to recognise and maintain the balance of nature for the common good. Let us not exhaust the earth by constant sowing and reaping without rest for the fields; let us not expect more from the earth than we are prepared to give it. As the land blesses us with its produce, so may we enrich it with water and minerals. God of goodness, inspire us to give and to receive in our relationship with Mother Earth. Amen.

Help us to do more than teach; help us to guide and mentor these wonderful works of art, to learn, to discover, to imagine, and to dream. May we be messengers of knowledge, learning, possibilities, and wonder - all in the spirit of your marvelous love and mercy. Bless us, and give us the energy, courage, and insight that we need. Amen.

God of all times and places, you are the one who guides, shepherds, and keeps our lives intact. Come now, wake and rouse us to experience your power and presence. Take the gifts you have instilled in us so that we can speak of the hope that comes from the promise of your Word. Help us to stay awake and be on the watch for you; open our eyes to recognise the many signs of your coming to be with us. Fill us with kindness to be people of justice, and help us to pray on behalf of those in need and those who ache for your loving presence. Amen.
