Sisters Andrea and Nancy combined their skills – and their new businesses – to create a beautiful day for their fabulous friend, Yanina.
S
hades of sunny yellow and crisp white set the scene for a simply perfect day and a special occasion that is filled with such promise and excitement. Just two months before Yanina’s baby boy, Max Riley, arrived, Andrea and Nancy created a very special day with the fitting theme of ‘Just Hatched’. A pastry chef by trade, Andrea created a delicious menu and planned much of the day, with Nancy capturing the moments on camera. With all the guests keeping very hush hush, it was a beautiful surprise for Yanina. The relaxed day was outdoors with perfect weather and Andrea, Nancy and Yanina all agreed that the best part of the day was the great food and lovely company!
Nancy & Andrea’s top tips: 1. Be organised and plan well ahead of time. This gives you time to relax and enjoy the day. 2. If you choose a theme – stick to it! 3. When outdoors, think of things that guests may forget that will keep them comfortable: repellent, sunscreen, hand sanitiser, picnic blankets, etc… Contact Andrea for events in Melbourne on 0421 115 517. Nancy can be contacted for photography through her website www. cubbyhousephotography.com.au

noah’s
christening.
10 month old Noah celebrated his christening in style thanks to the creativity of his mum, Michelle.
C
reating a theme around pale blue, white and taupe, Noah’s day was simple, unique and very elegant. With soft stripes, fine dots and Noah’s special monogrammed ‘N’ used throughout, the day felt like a celebration without taking away from the special event that a christening is. Starting with a formal christening at the Macedonian Orthodox Church in Wollongong and followed on by a delicious lunch for friends and family at The Lagoon Seafood Restaurant, and a wonderful day was had by all. “Naomi from Hello Naomi and Nathalie from Imprintables were wonderful in taking my ideas and creating and customising a special day for Noah,” says mum, Michelle. “It was such a memorable day and it was such fun to watch Noah shine as he celebrated his christening with our close friends and family.”
Michelle’s top tips: 1. Decide on a guest list, venue and theme that you would like to create for your child’s special day. Options are endless, so need to narrow it down so it doesn’t get confusing! 2. As spare time when you have a little one is limited, think about appointing a party planner to design, create and put together your event so that you can focus on being part of the day. 3. Take lots of photos. 4. Enjoy the day! few easy gym sessions and walks. It was hard to get out and walk as it was winter when I was due and I was so tired by 5pm when I finished work. I actually forgot to book into my prenatal classes, so I used a fantastic lady who came to my house and did a one on one session with my husband and me. She talked us through all the information regarding the birth and was very knowledgeable as she was a trained midwife. She answered all my questions and was great to call after I had Lotus too with any questions (www.mumalicious.com.au).” Tom and Courtney found out at 20 weeks that they were having a girl, and Courtney enjoyed shopping for her from that moment on! “I always wanted to find out what I was having. Tom didn’t want to know at the start but changed his mind at the scan. I felt that by knowing the sex of my baby, I could develop a bond with her whilst she was growing. I could talk to her and call her by her name. I just felt closer

relax. My obstetrician came in at 6.45pm and checked to see if I had dilated any further since the morning but I was still at 1cm! He then discussed my options with me and recommended me to have a c-section, which I agreed to. I was wheeled into theatre and by 7.22pm had a beautiful little girl in my arms. I didn’t want a c-section but knew there was a possibility I would need one as my mum and sister both had them too. The day after, I was actually surprised how good I felt after the surgery. I was up walking around, and after six nights in hospital, I felt fantastic. The c section experience was definitely a positive one for me.” Such a physically taxing experience is often hard to recover from, but Courtney kept fit and healthy throughout her pregnancy which no doubt helped her body through the birthing process. “I was training at the gym 4 times a week up until about 26 weeks and then did a
to her when she was actually delivered, as I felt I already knew her even though I hadn’t met her. I also loved being able to decorate the nursery before she was born. A few people had said to me, ‘Don’t you want a surprise?’ but I felt that by finding out at the scan or in the delivery room, it is still a surprise either way.” It was actually Courtney’s mum who came up with the name Lotus, a name that family and friends love. “Tom and I had always loved pretty names but names that were a little bit different too. For years, Tom and I had our girls name chosen, but once I found out I was pregnant, we changed our mind. One day my mum called me and said “what about the name Lotus. It was pretty and feminine yet different. I loved it as soon as she said it, so Lotus was named ‘Lotus’ from that day on. She gets called Lolo from her cousins Elwood and Summer, and Lo from us. She is just our little Lotus flower that we love so much.” Courtney found that pregnancy has its ups and downs, but staying focused on the little baby that is to arrive is the best way to make it through the negatives. “I couldn’t believe how tired you became. I was so exhausted I thought there was something wrong with me! I would come home from work and sleep for a few hours before tea. I didn’t like the body changes, not being able to choose where the weight went, and just the feeling of not being in control of your body. I felt very restricted on what I could and couldn’t do in regards to exercise, eating and what I could wear. I would wake at least seven times a night to either go to the toilet, or wake from a horrible leg cramp, and to top it all off, I couldn’t sleep on my tummy anymore which was really hard for me as I have always been a tummy sleeper! At the time I really disliked being pregnant, I just felt sluggish and felt like I never looked nice. However in all honestly, looking back on my pregnancy experience, it was pretty amazing to think that I grew a beautiful little baby inside me, which definitely outweighs the negatives.” Courtney recorded her pregnancy and Lotus’ first months in a journal. “I included everything that I thought was significant like changes in sleeping patterns, foods eaten, when I stopped wrapping, first time she slept through the night … I felt this will help me when I have my second baby and also be a great gift for Lotus when she is older.”

indy Klim wears many hats, and most of them are quite glamourous ones. So, you can imagine our surprise when LittleONE Baby showed up to photograph Lindy, who is pregnant with her third child, and she answered the door with a warm hello! No great entourage in tow. No airs and graces. In fact, Lindy would have to be one of the most down to earth (albeit glamourous) mum-to-be that you could ever hope to meet. As she invites us in to her beautiful, modern home with its stunning Balinese touches, she makes it very clear that her home is ours. Luckily, Lindy adopts that philosophy with most of her guests. As well as having the team of her and Michael’s MILK Skin Care range currently working in offices downstairs, Lindy has just finished co-ordinating a stream of builders who have been completing their new Brighton home. As most of the team at LittleONE Baby are working mums (and dads) trying to juggle kids and career, we are always keen to find a little hint from those who make it look so easy. How exactly does Lindy do all of this and still manage to look so gorgeous? “You wouldn’t say that if you saw me first thing in the morning,” she laughs when we ask. “I’m the first to admit that it isn’t easy. I am really lucky that I have a great team behind me.” Whilst the Klim family can boast a nanny, a cleaner and a gardener, none of them are there full time, so Lindy still does much of the family and household tasks herself. In fact, when we complete our photo shoot earlier than planned, she is straight in the car and off to collect Stella (her oldest) from school. This, combined with managing staff, meeting media engagements and running her blog, makes you wonder how on earth she stays so relaxed and calm. “With Michael getting back in to swimming this year, and another baby on the way, it is definitely going to be busy,” Lindy says. However, as she speaks, you get the feeling that she likes it that way. In fact, with plans for a new business venture in 2011, there is certainly no slowing down any time soon. One thing is for certain; Baby Klim Number Three is one lucky little person. To have such wonderful role models as parents, and to grow up in such a beautiful environment, it is certainly not a bad start. For more information about Lindy visit www. milkskincare.com or visit her blog http://lindyklim. wordpress.com Dark Toffee Tshirt Nursing Bra $64.90 (www. cakelingerie.com)

apartment and it’s a special feeling,” explains Christian. Now the af Klintberg and Swedmark family has been living here for one and a half years and is getting on wonderfully. The apartment is decorated with Scandinavian design, classic furnishings and works of art. As the Editor-in-Chief for the lifestyle magazine Plaza Magazine, Elin’s design savvy is reflected in their home. Design classics have been matched with flea market gems and on the walls, fresh, contemporary art. The family has created a stylistically pure home with a personal and cozy flair. Elin and Christian have successfully decorated the apartment with attractive yet child friendly knick knacks and furniture. The black couch was chosen, for example, with Frans in mind–so he could freely play about on it. He has just discovered that the ellipse formed coffee table is perfect for holding on to now that he is learning how to walk. “Frans is allowed to run amok at home.
Fragile trinkets and furniture would never work because he scrutinizes everything,” says Elin. The couple has similar taste in decor but their decorating style is different. “Elin gets things done quickly and effectively. On the other hand, she can be a little careless. I am a perfectionist but everything takes a little longer,” says Christian and laughs. “A lot longer,” adds Elin and smiles. Christian, who has just gone on paternity leave, has free hands to decorate the home office. He has chosen to paint the floor white and some of the walls in bright yellow. To establish the perfect color, he painted the wall in six different shades of yellow. “The color in this room really gives me energy when I work,” he says. In the long run, the room will be Frans’ and Christian has tons of plans for how it will look. They include a climbing wall and wallpaper of his own design
