1987 Little Sparta, Daniel Boudinet
In 1987 Ian Hamilton Finlay (1925–2006) presented the exhibition Poursuites révolutionnaires at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain to mark the bicentenary of the French Revolution. To accompany this exhibition, French photographer Daniel Boudinet (1945–90) produced a series of photographs of Little Sparta, Finlay’s garden at his home Stonypath. Nine of these photos were published in the book Un paysage ou Neuf vues du jardin de Ian Hamilton Finlay. As described by the Fondation Cartier, Boudinet’s “visual survey provides a very accurate perception of the relationship between nature and culture in the garden at Stonypath”.
