About me:

PROFESSIONAL WORKS Featured landscape projects

A Master of Architecture graduate from a Canadian university, an Associate member with Ontario Association of Landscape Architects in Canada, I have a strong theoretical, practical, and technical knowledge. With more than two and a half years of experience working in Dubai, UAE, as a landscape architect and project lead, I also have experience in Canada working on construction projects both in landscape and architecture.

What I can do: Strong software skills, I am particularly good at using Auto Cad, Sketch Up, Photoshop and InDesign to produce outstanding illustrative plan and section renderings, project diagrams and client reports. For perspective view renderings, I have successfully used Sketch Up, Lumion and Photoshop, to produce high quality project visualization. You will see examples of my work in the following pages. I have designed planting layouts and produced the required documentation, using LandF/X. I have also been able to, under the supervision of an irrigation designer, design and produce irrigation documentation, including mainline and drip layouts. I have also been able to produce the design, documentation and visualization of a number of very interesting landscape shade structures, working under the supervision of a Design Director.

Most recently, I have learnt how to use a specialist lighting software, DiaLux, to visualize lighting levels, and as a tool to check if proposed lighting design meets required lighting standards as per IESNA. Least but no last, as a Project Lead, I have successfully coordinated a number of project submissions, and been responsible for the technical documentation and graphic representation at concept, schematic and detailed design stages. I have worked under the supervision of a Design Director. And lastly, I have used Excel on daily basis as a project managing tool to create and assign tasks, track project progress and ensure deadlines get met.

Illustrative landscape plan Pool area A sense of place is created with this “outdoor living” type gazebo, which provides a space to hold a conversation, and yet can be seen as a social destination during events. Located on the pool’s geometric axis, the gazebo also is a visual feature when looking across the swimming pool.

Swimming Pool Infinity Edge Detail The infinity edge pools shown in Option 1 for the Level 3 podium were inspired by the sky pool over the Marina Sands development in Singapore. At Marina Sands, the pool infinity edge appears to be set back approximately 2m from the edge of the podium. This has been extended to 3m to allow room for sun-beds in front of the infinity edge. The sun-beds will be 1.5m below the pool water level and so will not disrupt the view of the water horizon overlooking the golf course.

Irrigation System - Irrigation Strategy Requirements: Demonstrate that Water Efficient Irrigation System has been incorporated into the landscape design. Narrative: The irrigation system employs fully automatic (smart irrigation) sub‐surface irrigation for all trees, plant beds and lawn areas. The sub‐surface drip irrigation provides the ultimate in water use efficiency for open‐field landscape irrigation, often resulting in water savings of 25‐50% compared to common on ground drip and spray irrigation. The use of automatic sub‐surface irrigation offers many other advantages for healthy plant growth, such as;

Water Conservation ‐ Sub‐surface drip irrigation systems allow you an efficient irrigation system by supplying water where it is needed ‐ at the very roots of the plants. As a result, water is not wasted on leaves or soil. A sub‐surface drip irrigation system is designed to significantly reduce the chances for evaporation and run off. Both are common with traditional irrigation systems where the water is often supplied at a rate greater than the soil can absorb it. Use of Wastewater ‐ the ability to safely irrigate with wastewater while preventing human contact. Reduce Weed Growth ‐ When water is applied using a conventional sprinkler irrigation or on ground irrigation system, most of the soil gets wet. Since a sub‐surface drip irrigation system applies water to the root zone of the plants, the spaces in between plants remain dry. This greatly inhibits weed seed germination. If the soil remains dry, most seeds will not germinate. Landscape maintenance takes less time with a sub‐surface drip irrigation system. Reduce Plant Stress ‐ When plants get deep, consistent watering, they thrive. Inefficient, shallow watering can contribute to plant stress. Promote healthy growth and disease resistance.

Irrigation System - Soil Amendment Strategy

Central Control System The central system shall provide a Satellite Alarm Report. This report will display and print satellite alarm and warning events that show various field anomalies. Such events include: station upper and lower flow limit violations, main line break, unscheduled flow, solenoid electrical current violations, station short circuits, power failures, monthly water over budget, wind/rain violations, configuration related programming errors, and communication failures.

Requirements: Describing moisture retention approach for soil amendments. Narrative: Moisture Retaining Soil Additive

Weather Station The weather station will measure and store temperature, relative humidity, dew point, wind speed and direction, and solar radiation for use in the calculation of evapotranspiration. The central shall automatically communicate ET data to field controllers for recalculation of watering times. Daily Evapotranspiration will be calculated as per local climate and the amount of water will be adjusted to prevent adding more than the daily water requirement to the plant. Rain sensor will shut down the system during the event of rain.

The moisture soil additive will be made of mineral based used to reduce the amount of irrigation water required. The additive is included for all planting types including trees, palms, shrubs, groundcovers, and lawn. It gives a lot of advantages to care for the plants, consumption of irrigation water and protection of the environment. It has major components, which are common for good quality natural soils High Water Holding Capacity (WHC) It can easily absorb and store a huge amount of water and it prevents the water from percolating uselessly deep into the ground and keeps it at the root level. This is why much less water and less irrigation intervals for greens and gardens are needed once soil additive is used.

Depending on the application of soil additive one can save high cost for operation and maintenance. soil additive will effectively save money and will make plants look much healthier even under harsh desert conditions.

Unless a system performs as it is intended by design, there is space for failure and error. Because of this, certain monitoring requirements are needed to ensure that the system is monitored and it performs as per the intended design. The irrigation system needs to be monitored for daily leak detection, to ensure that water is not being wasted.

Techniques To Reduce Plan Evapotranspiration Techniques to reduce plan evapotranspiration include bark mulching of planting beds. Generally large areas of planting beds are cut and filled with gravel to reduce the irrigated area. Emphasis has been given to trees to provide shade and other environmental benefits such as improving air quality. 50% of the plants species are local and are drought tolerant which means less water less evapotranspiration. Sub‐Surface Drip Irrigation is used to cut a large amount of evatranspiration.

This project, "smart" irrigation was proposed, incorporating networked remote control valves and sensors that can be centrally monitored and administered, letting water managers and maintenance personnel optimize their water use, right from their computer or even on smart phones. This project consists of a series of remote control valves and sensors that measure soil water content (or potential), environmental parameters that influence evapotranspiration, loss of water flow and pressure that might cause of water leakage. The data gathered from these valves and sensors is sent across to central control system. These valves and sensors are effectively distributed over the cultivated area, given that different hydrozones of the landscape areas have different water requirements. The valves and sensors monitor these parameters and send readings across to Central Control System which uses an intelligent software application to automatically analyze the data and act upon it by selectively activating irrigation hydrozones for watering. Re uirement: Demonstrate that a Natural Systems Design and Management Strategy has been prepared that ensure the long term survival and management of the landscape and habitat areas within the site and promotes: ‐ ‐ ‐

soil protection and enhancement; low maintenance requirements; and low demand for resources.

The Natural Systems Design and Management Strategy must cover all landscape areas including the management of: ‐ ‐ ‐

protected, mitigated or compensated assets (as identified under NS‐R2); areas of ecological enhancement (as identified under NS‐3); and habitat creation and restoration areas (as identified under NS‐4).

Proximity to canal are important, and therefore the majority of plants selected are saline tolerant as well. In order to maintain healthy plants, the soil needs to be maintained healthy. Therefore, If the soil importing strategy described above is followed correctly, there should be no need to use disease or pest control, which we strongly discourage. onitoring an maintenan e program. To maintain the landscape, we recommend fertilizers as per Verdaus Landscape Architects specifications for this project. Irrigation strategy is developed at an early stage of planning and design with the intent to reduce the overall project use of water, as per Estidama requirement. The design addresses these in the following ways: through the choice of plants and type of irrigation method selected.

Re erences: Narrati e: It was determined that there are no significant or valuable natural systems on site. The landscape masterplan includes new trees and different drought and saline tolerant shrub species. In this project, seven (7) local species of groundcovers and trees are used. The species are: Olea europaea, Acacia Arabica, Vitex agnus‐castus, Lawsonia inermis, Pennisetum divisum, Dodonaea viscose, Leptadenia pyrotechynica. Refer to last page of this report for Document References. The soil enhan ement for the site will be done by importing ample supply of top soil. The top soil imported will be a custom mix, which includes fertilizer and organic matter. To enhance the water holding capabilities of the soil, we will also be adding moisture retaining soil additive. All the soil imported will be free of impurities, pests and disease. The soil will be inspected for foreign matter, and on visual inspection, free of fragments and roots of aggressive weeds, sticks, straw, subsoil, pieces of brick, concrete, glass, wire, large lumps of clay or vegetation, and the like. The soil will not be contaminated – no top soil will be used which is contaminated with subsoil, rubbish or other materials that are corrosive, explosive or flammable, hazardous to human or animal life, or detrimental to healthy plant growth. The imported soil will have no objectionable odour. No peat products will be added to the soil mix. If the above are followed and implemented and maintained, then, the soil will be greatly enhanced. The soil shoul e maintaine using fertilizer specified as per Verdaus specifications, where other relaevant details regarding maintenance procedures are described. The Verdaus specifications will be provided for this project at the Detail Design Stage.

There are no landscape sensitive areas in this project, and therefore no procedures for relevant establishments or maintenance. The plant sele tion for the project has been designed to perform a range of important environmental functions, and selection of plants depends on location of plant in relation to amount of sunshine and water requirements. Due to the close proximity of the project to the creek, and to ensure the sur i al of species with minimum input, we have selected the species.

Native plants and locally occurring plant species are selected based on their low level of water consumption, to reduce irrigation requirements. Elimination of lawn space in the design greatly reduces the amount of water required, as lawn space consumes more water compared to planting beds or trees. Methods of irrigation are carefully selected to reduce the amount of water required. Most water is lost via evaporation on the surface of the ground; we have eliminated this evaporation by an irrigation method which uses sub‐surface irrigation. Sub‐surface irrigation gets the water from the water source to the roots of the plant under the surface of the ground, eliminating water evaporation, thus reducing the use of water by up to 50%. Because we have no lawn in the design, the irrigation strategy excludes sprinklers, which are usually the biggest water leak in a less than ideal irrigation strategy. By using sub‐surface irrigation, we eliminate water run off, overspray, wet sidewalks. This system is also safer for people, as the fertilizer gets to the plant roots underground as well, which greatly reduces human contact and eliminates waste. Following are the technical details regarding the items which make up this system:
