INFINITE Audiovisual Installation 2014 Projection Mapping, Spatial Installation, Minimal, Video Effect INFINITE is an audiovisual installation. This work explores the relationship between time and space, spatial gravity and perception of human, the dual experience of sound and vision. Inspired by conceptual artist Sol Lewitt’s wall drawing series and “Open Cube”. The combination of the cube and the wall give me a driving force to be willing to be absorbed by the corner, but it exists in reality and would not allow me to enter.

Super Light Audiovisual Installation 2015 Projection Mapping, Spatial Installation, Minimalism, Video Effect Super Light is an audiovisual installation. It is a tetrahedron LED light tower, which is supposed to be built as a five-meters height upright.

Wild Growth Interactive Video Installation 2014 Generative Art, Coding, Processing, Video Camera Wild Growth is an interactive video installation created by Chang Liu to digitally paint scenes from an attached webcam. Visitors to the space not only see the application in action, but also inevitably get caught by webcam and participate in the creation of an ever-changing digital painting. Wild Growth interpreted coding art with its unique algorithm to generate a kind of brush stroke. The results would appear impressionistic and quickly transition from impressionistic to seemingly nighty abstract.

Social Clinic Performing Interactive Installation 2015 Face Detection, Javascript, Performing Participation, Connected Device, Physical Computing Social Clinic is a face detection installation, which finds out your potential social symptoms and gives you prescription. We live in a world that is full of different types of communications. The need for social skills increases as conversation and technology rapidly evolves around us and influences our behavior. Social Clinic uses face recognition, emotion detection technique to discover people’s potential social symptoms and provide them some conversation prompts which can engage people in the show.

Aquarium Interactive Installation 2015 Processing, Genetic Algorithm, Computer Vision, Physical Computing Aquarium is a playful interactive installation that emulates a small aquatic ecosystem inside of a water tank. It hosts various species of digital creatures with different genders and behaviors, designed using physical and genetic algorithms that allows them to swim, chase, eat and reproduce in order to stay alive. The digital creatures are projected onto the surface of the water, allowing people to interact with the ecosystem by influencing and altering its behavior.

Random Walker Print on Paper 2015 Processing, Algorithm Art, Printing Code Random Walker is an experiment of algorithm art. It combines control and certainty with random chance, the artist’s hand an aesthetic sensibility with chaos and code. The Random_Walker program relies primarily on two algorithms: One to create a random path for a line (the random walk), the other to smooth out that line into beautiful curves(Perlin Noise). The width of the line is randomly selected, and the color of the line is determined by randomly selecting a color captured at that moment by the computer’s webcam. Based purely on aesthetics, I choose how long the program runs for, perhaps what colors to put in front of the webcam, and whether or not to keep a given output or discard it and start the program over again. As same as the Wild Growth Series, an element of chance be introduced through the use of a webcam, with the programs grabbing bits and pieces of an ever-changing scene over which Liu only has so much control.

Dilation 3D Animation 2015 Unreal Game Engine, Motion Capture, Video Effect, 3D Scanning/Model DILATION is a study of animation techniques of motion capture through dance. The project explores the differences of elapsed time through a sequence of eloquent dance solos and duets – it follows the idea of spacetime relativity where there are no absolute positions in time and space. A non-linear journey will demostrate how the body constructs and affects the space and how the perception of movement changes over time. The emotion will intensify from slow conscious sections to rapid explorations until eventual regression.

Untitled Interactive Installation/Computational Portraiture 2016 Processing, Algorithm Art

Untitled explores computational portraiture and the passage of time. It’s a combination of generative portraiture and algorithm art. The ever-changing portraiture is captured by webcam and demonstrates the passage of time. People who were passing by this space will leave their trace and become one layer of the texture with its gradually decaying.

Here and Now Web Application 2015 p5.js, APIs, Jquery, HTML,CSS Here and Now is a web application based on Instagram Real-Time APIs and Google Map APIs, which allows users search photo by locations. The result will be visualized on Google Map in real time.
