Founded in 1886, LIU Pharmacy—Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences—has been providing student-centered training for pharmacists for more than a century. LIU Pharmacy is a member of the National Institute for Pharmacy Technology and Education (NIPTE), creating collaborative research opportunities for students and faculty with colleagues at 15 other top colleges of pharmacy across the country.
LIU Pharmacy’s curriculum places heavy emphasis on ethical and experiential learning in a variety of settings in order to prepare students for leadership positions within interdisciplinary teams dedicated to patient-centered care.

LIU Pharmacy has a number of institutes and programs established to bring together faculty and students towards becoming leaders in pharmaceutical and biomedical research. Pharmaceutical scientists and clinical faculty conduct research and provide training to professional and graduate students. The mission of the Institutes and programs is excelling in science education and research by accelerating discovery, development and manufacturing of new drugs for treatments of various diseases. MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing
The MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing program prepares students to both be professional writers in the world and to be visionary literary citizens. Situated in the heart of Brooklyn, LIU’s MFA in Creative Writing & Publishing is an innovative creative writing program centered on world literature, multi-genre education, and publishing. Our applied MFA prepares students for careers in creative writing, academia, translation, and publishing. During their two-year residential program, students have the opportunity to study poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, and translation, and thus receive a robust multi-genre education.
Writing Center
The LIU Brooklyn Writing Center’s mission is to support and develop student writing and reading at LIU’s Brooklyn Campus. The Center complements the classroom instruction of writing in the Writing Program and across the academic disciplines with one-on-one, student-centered tutoring, student writing groups, and writing workshops. Staff at the center work with students during all stages of the writing process—from understanding an assignment and brainstorming for ideas to developing stronger arguments, critically analyzing and applying course readings, and mastering techniques for proofreading and editing.
Over 70 Years of Intrepid Journalism
For over 70 years, LIU has been the proud home of the George Polk Awards in Journalism, the first major award of its kind to recognize reporting across all media. This prestigious honor focuses on the intrepid, bold, and influential work of the reporters themselves, placing a premium on investigative work that is original, resourceful, and thought-provoking. Among the many journalism greats who are Polk laureates are Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow, Christiane Amanpour, I.F. The Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE Center of Excellence at Long Island University focuses on research with high societal impact to advance the fields of pharmaceutical sciences, precision medicine and health care in the digital age. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, the health administration field is expected to grow 20% between 2016 and 2026, at a much faster rate of growth than the average occupation.
The Master of Public Administration in Health Administration prepares students for careers in fields that offer numerous professional paths while the Master of Public Administration prepares students for public service responsibilities, blending management theory with practical applications in government, health and non-profit organizations.
Both programs are N.A.S.P.A.A.-accredited.
Students from diverse backgrounds with varying levels of professional expertise, are taught by faculty members who are current in all aspects of this continuously evolving and growing field.
The programs are flexible and can be tailored to accommodate the professional requirements of the student by offering specialization courses that provide them with the opportunity to examine a specific management function or an area of application in greater depth.
Areas of specialization include public administration, nonprofit management, social policy management, health care administration, health care management, health care policy and aging/long-term care. Other specializations can be developed in consultation with a faculty advisor from the broad spectrum of courses available through the Program and the School, as well as through courses available across the campus.
