STEP 1

STEP 2

STEP 3

Create an FSA ID at fafsa.ed.gov

Complete the FAFSA, with school code 002751 at fafsa.ed.gov

Apply for NYS TAP Program at hesc.ny.gov with TAP school code 0403

Both parent and student tax information from the past couple of years is needed

NYS residents only

Within 3-5 business days, LIU will receive electronic FAFSA information. Award notice will be mailed and financial aid awards will appear on students’ MyLIU account.

CREATING A FINANCIAL AID PACKAGE The combination of all financial aid awards given to a student is called a financial aid package. To create this package, LIU first needs your FAFSA. Once a student has been awarded financial aid based upon his/her Estimated Family Contribution (EFC), LIU then evaluates a student’s eligibility for additional grants and scholarships. The subtotal of Pell Grant and scholarship/grant awards is also used to determine a student’s eligibility for additional loans. The final package includes information of the combination of governmental grants, institutional scholarships, and eligibility for loans.

APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL AID Applying for financial aid is the only way to qualify for funds that are available from the institution and the U.S. Federal Government to help pay for your college costs. Financial aid eligibility is determined based on the information you provided on your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which must be filed each year by February 14). Your financial need is determined by considering your college expenses, minus any family contribution (determined from your FAFSA), and minus any scholarship or grant assistance you receive from LIU. External scholarships and loans will also help to defray your overall costs. Completing the FAFSA is your very first step to receiving financial aid. If you and your family have not already completed one, go to fafsa.gov and use the Long Island University Federal School Code 002751.

SCHOLARSHIPS LIU is committed to helping you achieve your dreams and earn a world-class education. You could be eligible for external scholarships in addition to those offered by LIU. See liu.edu/global/scholarships. Transfer and International students are also eligible.

For more detailed financial information, please visit: liu.edu/global/financials

GLOBAL CITIZENS LIU Global prepares students to be global citizens and cosmopolitan travelers. Upon arrival at each center or program, students receive an extensive orientation to general health practices, safety risks, and emergency response procedures in the region of study. LIU Global’s highest priority is the health and safety of our students, hence our mandatory international health insurance that ensures access to the best medical facilities, emergency assistance, medical evacuation, and repatriation. Visit liu.edu/global/forms for more information. LIU Global students are registered at the nearest U.S. Embassy and supported by a 24/7 emergency response system.

IMMUNIZATION All LIU Global students are required to provide proof of immunization. The MMR/ Meningitis form is available at liu.edu/ newstudenthealth the completed MMR/ Meningitis form along with copies of shot records is required prior to the start of classes. To ensure the overall health of each student, NYS Public Health Laws 2165 (MMR Requirements) and 2167 (Meningococcal Meningitis) are strictly enforced. Your immunization records must legibly document two complete dates (month/ date/year) for your MMR.

If you are missing one date, you have two options: 1) Obtain an MMR Booster. 2) Obtain a Titre (a lab test demonstrating your level of immunities for the MMR). Titres are accepted as valid only when the actual lab results are attached documenting your levels are positive/immune. All other results will require that you receive an MMR booster. In many instances, you can receive your booster at University Health and Medical Service, located on the LIU Brooklyn campus or the New York State Department of Health for free. For information about NYSDOH clinics, contact the Immunization Hotline at 212.676.2273, or if you’re in New York City, dial 311.

DON’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT! ATM cards: one for daily use, and the second to have in your house as a credit card to use for going to the doctor and for emergencies. MasterCard and Visa are recommended. You will have health insurance, but you must pay out of pocket for all medical services (LIU Global staff will assist with reimbursement claims). Additionally, you must plan on having money available for personal expenses, including independent travel and entertainment (past students recommend at least $1,000-$1,500 per semester). You will be able to access bank accounts in the U.S. through ATM Plus, Cirrus or Visa credit cards, or international debit cards.

Medications: Enough prescription and nonprescription medications for the duration of your travels.

Identification: A valid passport, international student identification card (ISIC) and 6-10 passport size photos.

Sunblock and bug spray

Photocopies of all important documents (passport, health insurance, etc.).

Medical history sheet, if you suffer from a particular illness or health condition. Battery operated radio or alarm clock (in case of emergency while at remote locations) and extra batteries. A power converter/transformer as well as plug adapters. Most laptops are equipped with a power converter, in which case only the plug adapter is needed.
